So I saw some random Transformers Prime episodes on Cartoon Network. I never watched anything Transformers except for some parts of the first movie (I think it was the first one). Anyway, this show got me kinda interested and I like the visual presentation and now I'm thinking of maybe watching it from the start, every episode. I see there's also a mini-series, like a prequel maybe?

Does anyone recommend?

I follow the show, and I think it's pretty decent overall. It is kind of like a darker version of G1 (generation 1 from the 80s) with influences from the Bayformers movies. I don't care much for the human characters though. In terms of Transformers shows, I actually like Beast Wars, Beast Machines, and Transformers: Animated the best.

I'm not a fan either, especially the kids lol.

So far, I'd say Ratchet is my fave, I really like the voice actor too. But there was an episode that I just caught the end of and some kind of explosion happened and it seemed like Ratchet got destroyed in it?! Noooo! Next time I caught the show on TV they were showing an episode I had already seen before and Ratchet was just fine, so I got totally confused lol.

Soundwave seems very cool and scary!

I think I'm gonna start watching it "properly", I have to find out what happened to Ratchet, hehe...

Yeah this show rules. You gotta go from the beginning though.

Soundwave and Starscream are number one!

Well, I checked out the mini-series and liked it.

I thought it was a shame they killed off Cliffjumper, what a col car to go to waste. I was hoping once Megatron revived him he'd continue serving the evil side. Would have been interesting to see an evil Autobot.

That girl Miko was incredibly annoying and I'm not too crazy about the 12-year-old wonder kid that actually looks like a 4-year old, Raf. Jack is OK.

Now, Ratchet & Optimus are awesome. Both have great voice actors, Optimus' monologue at the end was great and I love the way Ratchet says "I needed that!" when someone takes/ruins his tech stuff.

On the evil side, Megatron was totally overshadowed by Soundwave and Starscream. Soundwave was best when he took a picture of the kids with his visor, that pest Miko thought she was the only one who could take pics. Ha! But why do all the minions look like Soundwave? :-\

So... Season 3 is 4 episodes in...

I was getting really sick of Optimus lying there half-dead and he has finally, FINALLY, risen and is heavily upgraded too!

Ultra Magnus (Sir!) joined the Autobots and Wheeljack became a regular member of Team Prime. I like Ultra so far. So many Autobots, exciting! Oh and, Bumblebee's new paint job is cool!

On the enemy side, Shockwave joined the team and seems pretty chill, almost as chill as Soundwave. His vehicle mode is pretty cool. That Predacon beast was in action but just got sent to an icy hell by the teamwork of Ultra Magnus and my fave fictional doc ever, Ratchet. Starscream is not having the best of his days and Soundwave is still "in the shadows". No Knock Out in episode 4 (T_T), but I'm glad the narcissistic racer is still alive. Also, that bish Airachnid is still "alive" (I guess), only trapped in that Insecticon "egg". I keep thinking something will happen and she'll break free. If she and Arcee battle once again, I'd love for her to kill Arcee. Muahahaha!

Your thoughts so far on season 3? Glad Optimus is emo no more? Like Bee's new paint job? Think Airachind will be freed in some way? Needs more Soundwave in action?

Who do you think would win in a race between Bumblebee, Smokescreen, Wheeljack and Knock Out? lol

I've seen all the mini-series, season 1 & 2 episodes in the meantime. Loved it. Soundwave and Starscream are both awesome, but the two docs are my faves- Ratchet & Knock Out! Ratchet on "steroids" in season one was the best thing ever and Knock Out's self-obsession and sarcastic remarks are real diamonds lol.

Yeah, Ratchet and Wheeljack are my favorite Autobots. I haven't been watching since Beast Hunters has been announced. I gotta get to watching it though. Supposed to be getting really good. :O

I wish I could enjoy this show, I keep trying to sit down and watch it, but it just feels so generic after how much I loved TF Animated. I like references and easter eggs to G1, but this show is literally just a cross between G1 and the movies with 3D art, which is so boring to me. I especially can't stand the kid characters.

I liked how TFA only had human characters who actually mattered to the plot instead of having the TFs hang out with multiple children they don't need for no reason, and I especially liked how it went to great lengths to establish physical differences between Autobots and Decepticons, like the "only 'Cons can fly" rule or how only the 'Cons had guns because they were built to be military while Autobots were built for labor so all their weapons were tools like hammers and welding torches. And how there was some moral ambiguity with the way things were run on Cybertron, where the Autobot bureaucracy was so shady that you could imagine Megatron and the 'Cons actually being "in the right" as freedom fighters at some point in the past, before he became the power-mad villain he is in the show.

LOL, it seems no one likes them. I'm okay with Jack though, but Raf and Miko (especially this girl) ugh! What's even worse when it comes to Miko is that her robot partner is my least favorite Autobot so the episodes that focus on them are a bit of a torture for me.

Well, like I said this is the first Transformers show for me so I can't compare it to previous ones, other than the movies (I think I saw parts of the first one and the 3rd one). I saw a part of the 3rd (I think) movie the other day and thought it was terrible, disgustingly cheesy and even the robot design was bad imo (overdetailed, and the Cons were all too similar, chronic lack of color diversity). I got curious about TFP because I liked the visual presentation and then I got sucked in because I really enjoyed the various "personalities" and great voice acting.

I did wonder though how come none of the Autobots can fly. I read on Wikipedia that the show is a continuation of a story told in some novels and games (?) so I thought that maybe it was explained there. :-\

That's interesting. Yeah, Megatron does come off as bland to me in TFP. I enjoy Starscream, Soundwave, Airachnid and especially Knock Out on the villains side much more.

Well, for someone who wasn't into Transformers and basically knew nothing about them other than how popular they are, this show is just fine for me. I guess it's comparable to how so many new and casual fans loved MK2011's story mode while I hated it because I was familiar with the old timeline that I consider far superior. I'm guessing TFP does a better job though then MK2011 did with its story and characters compared to previous shows?

Well..."More respectful of past continuity than MK9" is a pretty low bar, but yeah. The thing is, Prime's not a BAD show. It's just kind of mediocre and generic.
The "Autobots don't fly" thing is an old throwback to the original series, most iterations of the franchise stick to it, though some don't. The core concept behind it is that Autobots are the peaceful good guys who want to blend into human society, so they should turn into cars and trucks, while the Decepticons just want war so they turn into military vehicles.
Lore-wise though, a Transformer can't just turn into whatever they want, they have to scan something that resembles their actual bodymass and abilities. On Cybertron, Starscream turned into a triangular flying thing with thrusters and wings, so he comes to Earth, he becomes an Earth jet, Bumblebee is small, boxy, and has four wheels so he turns into a car, etc. And Cybertron used to have a caste system based on what you do/what your alt-mode is, and the Decepticons were the planet's military while the Autobots were civilians and laborers before the war.
Sometimes though, like in the movies and the comic books, Autobots and Decepticons are just political factions and ideology is all that separates them...which makes its own sense, but it makes the characters on either side too samey IMO when they both have the same vehicle modes and weapons available to them.

Yeah, even Ratchet in TFP has those guns built in, but he never uses them to fire projectiles. Not working? If that's the case one would assume that he should be able to fix them.

I find Airachnid interesting as she seems to have 3 forms: regular robot, spider-like form and vehicle form. Thinking about her she seems to be one of the more potent villains being able to shoot spider webs, spit acid, drill holes in the ground and even mind-control an army of Insecticons! Plus of course, she can fly. Soundwave owned her pretty bad though in that brief 1-on-1 fight lol. Knock Out: "Watch out for the quiet ones." lol <3

I see. Yes, it seems more interesting this way when there's physical/technical differences as well.

Thanks for the info! Btw, just curious, did you ever watch The Challenge of the GoBots? I loved that as a kid and one of the reasons why I never watched anything Transformers before is because I didn't want "those other robots" (I discovered GoBots first). I confess, Ratchet and Knock Out have won me over. Sorry GoBots lol.

No, I'd never even heard of Go-Bots until I was an adult, lol. To be fair, I was like 3 years old when those shows were on. The first cartoons I was old enough to really connect to and remember were Ghostbusters and Ninja Turtles.

Haha, I wasn't even born when the series originally aired ('84/'85; I was born in '87). For some reason the local Cartoon Network was airing the show in the early '90s and I watched it then. Crasher was so scary with her maniacal laugh.
