Van Halen's good based on the fact that they have Eddie Van Halen for a guitarist. Enough said about that. I personally like Hagar's voice over Roth's, some people don't. Whatever.

But for "Most Successful Band"... in terms of what? Most money made? That definitely goes to KISS, they're one of the top groups for album sales of all time, plus the billions they've made in merchandising. So I'd definitely give it to them.

Somebody has the right idea. grin

Anyway, I personally liked Hagar a thousand times more than Roth. Not only because Roth sounds like a clone of the average 80's tenor, but because he defines what a shitty human being actually is. Arrogant, abusive, inconsiderate, and mentally blind(the guy still thinks he's the shit). He's an aged sack of bad choices. Hagar may not have had the range, but at least he had a signature voice.

For all those interested, the best Instrumental ever(IMO), is a song by In Flames called "Dialogue with the Stars". I BEG you guys to check it out.

Yes. "Dialogue with the Stars" kicks ASS. "Man-Made God" by In Flames is a great instrumental too.

As for Van Halen being the "best" band ever because of their success, that's bullshit. The Backstreet Boys have a huge amount of success; does that mean their music is good? If you want to go by talent, yea, Eddie Van Halen is a great guitarist, but have you heard the music of EVERY great guitarist? And by "great" I suggest nothing of their level of fame, just talent. There are thousands of great guitarists who could probably hand Van Halen his ass on a platter.

LOL when I've been hearing "Someday" on the radio I actually think it IS "This is How You Remind Me." Yea, Nickelback sucks more than Van Halen.

Some of the best music I've heard is by let's say: Rough Cutt, Cats In Boots, Hurricane, or even Faster PussyCat? *Still think I base "great" on fame?

My first reply spelled everything out, but people are still continuing to post replies thinking somehow that "well he's not going to get me to shut up about my opinion". Well here's my advice don't keep this going. It's pretty much over now, because I know what everyone thinks on this site about Van Halen, I've been here long enough and know your tastes and styles, me being the only big fan here who has replied to this thread. That being said, there is no more to be said.

I was referring to this statement you made:
NeedlesKane Wrote:
Van Halen is the most successful Rock band ever, and there's nothing you can do to change it. They're simply the best, and all because your favorite band isn't doesn't mean you have to hate them.

As ShadowSong said, "successful" by what standards? I'm a guitarist, and I've been trying to start a band for years with no real success at all. But if I started a band and made it big, but in doing so I had to comprimise and write music I don't like, or change the message of my lyrics, I would consider myself ten times the failure that I am now for having NO band. As I've said, I've only heard a couple Van Halen songs, so I'm in no position to say they have no passion for their music, or that their lyrics don't come from the heart. But the thing is, you followed "most successful" with "the best." BOTH of those statements are purely opinion, and certainly neither logically follows from the other. You listen to some lesser-known bands and say they're great, fine. But don't throw around words like "best" like it's a fact, when it's just your opinion.

Oh, it isn't. Us rock fans just tend to get pissed when someone starts unjustifiably bashing a good band.
