Well I just got back from the theatre with a couple of friends and I must say I had a great time watching this movie. I think it's just plain flat-out fun. No complex storyline or epic filmmaking here, folks. But worry not. What it lacks in good filmmaking it makes up in an exiting and popcorn worthy movie.

Kate Beckensale wasn't as great as Hugh Jackman but she did look damn fine in that little get-up. wink. And I commend everyone else aswell. I thought the guy who played Dracula was exceptionaly convincing and just plain evil. Props to the CGI team for their amazing work and to the director for some sleek shots.

With all this said, yes, the movie does get cheesy alot of the time but I'm telling u the ending will make u forget about that stinky dairy product. tongue.

All in all I wanted to hear some of your oppinions on this film aswell so please don't hesitate to post.

The movie was awesome. . . the guys I went with to see it kept saying "Wolverine! Wolverine!" - usually followed by the obligatory "Schnik!" sound of Wolverine's claws - only to find that (spoiler here, don't read if you haven't seen it!) When they're in the last fight scene, sure enough, the Werewolf Van Helsing opens his hand and when his claws come out, you hear the trademark sound of our favorite X Man (which btw, has amnesia, too. . . weird). . .

And Beckinsdale in that hat in the rain. . . sign me up!

Just saw the movie myself last night with a friend. Damn that was a kickass movie. I'm definately gonna buy it on dvd, and I can't wait to see the extras, which will likely have alot to do with the making of this movie.

BTW, anyone seen the animated version of this movie? I believe it's a prequal of some sorts.

The name "Helsing" and all variants string from the Bram Stoker novel, "Dracula" so while the anime/manga "Hellsing" and this movie "Van Helsing" are based on the same character and what he did, they are in no way related. In fact, it could be said the main character in the anime is a descendant of Hugh Jackman's character. ^_^

I'm still mixed about the movie; I think I'll go see it with Mom just cuz it's Hugh. But now I'll know not to have high expectations. *nods*

Too true, but Integra is the decendant of Helsing, while Alucard (the main charecter) is a vampire. With that said here are my thoughts on the movie.

It wasn't that bad really. Whoever said it was a popcorn movie hit the nail on the head. It was a fun movie that even without the depth I normally look for in a movie. Though flawed, and highly predictable it turned out to be pretty cool. The only thing that I found truly annoying was that the movie was too fucking loud. Between the explotions, lightening, and the screeching brides( ohh I hated their screams) I damn near went deaf from watching it.

Me and a Friend Snuck in tonight and saw it.

Its ok. I HATE Corny dialouge though. The only movie genre that I will stand having it from now on is a Comedy. Otherwise its just stupid.

Punisher... Ruined by shitty lines and non-sense comic relief characters.

Van Helsing... Just about ruined with Corny lines and a "Funny" sidekick.

Kate Beckingsale was hot but I wish she would do playboy. I love her ass.

Van Helsing = 6/10

Punisher = 2/10

I just got back from seeing it myself. I enjoyed it. Characters like Dracula was great and the dude that played the part was great as well and his 3 ladies.I would like to see a sequel.

No, I don't think it's anime, it's called:

"Van Hellsing: London Assignment" and I think Van Hellsing is voiced by Hugh Jackman. Also, did anyone know there's a video game as well?

I have two comments: One, is Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing character in this movie related to Anthony Hopkins' Van Helsing in "Bram Stoker's Dracula"? Aren't they one in the same? Isn't "Van Helsing" a prequel? Then (SPOILER) why/how does Dracula come back in BSD when he is supposedly killed in VH? (END SPOILER)

Two, (ANOTHER SPOILER) wasn't the ending when Van Helsing turned into a werewolf reminiscent of another recent Kate Beckinsale movie? (END SPOILER)

I loved the movie with all my heart... until the final, oh, five minutes, when all my hopes and dreams (and reason for seeing it) were dashed to pieces with the (spoiler) death of the oh-so-beautiful Kate. Argh! She was sooo sexy and cute! And this definitely means she's not going to be in the sequel (and sequel there will be.) Until then, it was one of my favorite movies. Oh well... some dreams are meant to die. Fatality.

Ok just to clear up any confusion. Van Helsing has absolutly no ties to any previous movie, anime, book, etc. It simply takes the classic charecters and places them all in one flick. It's just a monster flick, just like Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. The only thing this Van Helsing may be tied to is a possible sequel or a possible animated series.

Dracula always comes back, according to movie legend, he just never dies!!

The 2 Van Hellsing's are completely different. Same character just portrayed by two different actors in 2 seperate movies.

BTW GrinningEvilDeath, what is that picture of in your avitar??

Spoilers a-comin'.

I don't think they're even the same character. Van Helsing's first name in the Bram Stoker version is Abraham, and there's nothing supernatural about him; he's just a smart old man who isn't a big fan of vampires. In this new version, he's apparently the Archangel Gabriel, given that:
- He's multiple centuries old
- Dracula calls him Gabriel
- That whole "left hand of God" thing.

So, I dunno, maybe Gabriel Van Helsing is meant to be a relative of Abraham. Whatever the case, this movie doesn't strictly follow any existing mythology, it creates its own by mixing several others together, so it can basically do whatever it wants. So the next one will probably have Buffy team up with Max Payne to stop an evil Sherlock Holmes from unleashing mecha-Godzilla on the world, while Van Helsing discovers he's actually the last son of Krypton.

Kate was soooo hot in that movie, so is that redheaded bride when she's in human form. I almost died. Jackman did a great job as Van Helsing, and yes, (SPOILER) that was great when he did the claw thing. You just knew something of the like would be in there. I can't get over that (SPOILER)Arrow Mini-gun he was using, that was insane! As for the rest of the film, I thought it was very good. The timeline jumps were kind of akward seeing how the night would end, cut to next scene (SPOILER) "We only have two hours til nightfall!". Besides little things like this, It was a great movie and I'd love to see a sequel, or even a prequel since that seems to be the THING these days.
