As for me.
The one game, I was very disappointed with, was, TMNT Turtles in Time, Re.
Not because, it was a bad game. Which, I still don't think, for a turtles game, that it was bad. Just, wasn't what I wanted or expected. IMO, too much stuff, was cut out from what made TMNT turtles in time, so great. And just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. That doesn't mean, I don't like it, cause I do. It just happen to be, the game that I was most disappointed with.

As for the game that I was most impressed with.
Well, that goes to, Ghostbusters, the video game. ( not SOS)
GB, felt like a true sequel, to the second movie. In fact, it is. And everything about it, was perfect, for me anyway.

I want to give the honor to Soul Calibur 5, but at least the gameplay was solid. I'd have to say Resident Evil 6. That has to be the worst sequel to a good franchise ever made.

Honestly though, I don't play that many video games anymore.

That's a toughie.

Biggest disappointment was probably Resident Evil 5. This game is just garbage. Every single thing about it except D.C Douglas' portrayal of Wesker. (Well all of the voice actors did very well) At least RE6 actually tried with a story.

I was most impressed with MK9. Mainly because NRS really pulled a 180 and got MK back into 2D where it belongs. It brought the series back with a vengeance and it really was the best in the series for gameplay.

Super Mario Galaxy was without a doubt the most impressive game I've experienced this console generation. The reason was probably because I wasn't hyped for the Wii, and I wasn't really aware that this was THE next Mario game. To me I thought it was just on the level of the sports games or "New" Super Mario bros series. Heck, I didn't even ask for it as a gift; my sister's the one who got it for Christmas while I got Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games (which kinda sucked, to be honest). But when I played Galaxy I got the full Mario experience, on the level of Sunshine or 64, complete with an all new gameplay experience and the best sound track I've ever heard in any videogame EVER.

The most disappointing game is a little different. I wanna say Duke Nukem Forever because this was supposed to be the big comeback. Instead we got one of the worst games of the past decade. A boring fps with a few Duke Nukem one-liners thrown in... I didn't buy it though, once I heard it sucked, so I don't know if that counts.

The most disappointing game that I actually own, ironically, is also a Mario game; New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS (I assume 3DS is considered part of this generation). I knew this game was going to be a drab, soulless rehash with the "Collect a million coins!" gimmick thrown in and a few nostalgic things like the raccoon suit returning. Yet knowing that, it still managed to disappoint me. The coin collecting was useless and did nothing to immerse me in the game. The music, background, and overall atmosphere was all rehashed and made this game feel anything but "new". Even the would-be nostalgic appeal of the raccoon suit was trumped by the previously released Super Mario 3D Land's tanooki suit (it was an all around superior game as well). New Super Mario Bros. U was fortunately a step in the right direction, and the New Super Luigi DLC pack seems to take it a step further, but the damage this game did makes me hope the "New" series gets dropped in favor of a different take on a 2D Mario platformer.

X-men Destiny, Good concept Poor execution

Most Impressed
I bought a PS3 in 2010, I had took a 5 year break from any gaming at all, when I eventually got It I got the person had a bundle of games with it including God of War 3 and Assassins Creed 2, I remember just being blown away by them at the time.

MK9 a little bit later blew me away too, MK had always been my favourite franchise but it was always a rough diamond, now its a shiny diamond!

Impressed with: Dishonored, it's an awesome, awesome game. I totally recommend it, and their DLCs are also worth getting. I mean yeah it's another first-person shooter, but it is unique in its own special way.

Unimpressed with: Mists of Pandaria. I haven't liked the last three expansions, but this one was really a downer. I mean the Pandarian quests for the first ten levels were fun, but then that's it. This was a major dull expansion and I really didn't like it. I thought it would keep me entertained after Cataclysm's utter disappointment... I was wrong.

KoTOR 3........I WANT YOUUUUU SOOOOOO BAD. But alas, ain't never gonna happensad

Off the top of my head: Impressed
Red Dead Redemption
Fallout 3
Batman Arkham City
L.A. Noire

Disappointed:
Fallout New Vegas
Assassins Creed
Force Unleashed

Red Dead Redemption took that amazing Rockstar sandbox gameplay, but it in the dying West, added a story that was pretty damn enjoyable with great characters, presentation and great gameplay. And the multiplayer was also fun as all hell when you had a bunch of friends with you. Probably my overall favorite game from this generation of consoles and one of my all time favorite games.

Fallout 3 was a blast to play. The story...although not great and the DLC very hit or miss, the gameplay was just so enjoyable and the side quests were for the most part incredibly fun and rewarding. The setting was perfect and highly enjoyable. The dark humor also gave the game a nice touch. Amazingly fun game to play through that hits all the right notes.

Arkham City took what was great about Arkham Asylum and added more depth. Nuff said.

L.A. Noire. Probably a black sheep here but the game was very good. Now don't get me wrong, it has absolutely no replay value really, but what impressed me so much about this game was its overall attention to detail and the production put into it. The motion capture really adds depth to the game and presentation and gets you involved with the story. Now I'll admit the gameplay mechanics are a slog in comparison to GTA and Red Dead, but the detective gameplay was interesting and fun. The interviewing also was really cool and trying to use the facial expressions and voices of the characters being interviewed made it a lot of fun. Definitely worth one play through.

For disappointments, the one I will hit on for now is New Vegas. After how awesome Fallout 3 was, I expected a lot from NV. And it's not a bad game, not by any stretch of the imagination. The story this time is better, not much but it's better. The gameplay is refined and has a bit more depth with ammo differences and iron sights make combat much better. However, it's the constant, glitches, bugs and lock ups that make this game at times hair rippingly annoying.

I kinda forgot about this thread. You'll have to forgive all the CapLocks, KungLaodoesntsuck. If it sounds like I'm shouting at you, I'm not. I'm shouting at RE6. Even when I'm shouting about things not related to RE6, I'm secretly thinking about RE6 in the dark depths of my subconscious.

KungLaodoesntsuck Wrote:

Okay. I get that some people were disappointed in RE5. But garbage? Really? I don't know how anyone can say that. The co-op was a blast. The combat was solid, and the story was SUBSTANTIALLY better RE4's.

Again, I get why people didn't like it... but garbage?

KungLaodoesntsuck Wrote:
At least RE6 actually tried with a story.

But the story was bad. I'm glad they finally repaired the damage done to Leon's characterization in RE4, and I'll even concede there were some highs (Chris' story climax, the Sherry/Jake relationship), but overall, that story was horrid. I kept waiting for the end credits to say "from the same writers that brought you Sonic Adventure 2."

And this is the review in the vacuum. I can't even begin to explain what this game means in the greater scheme of the RE franchise. This was suppose to be the MSG4 of series: the game where Capcom say "we've introduced all these characters, and now we're going to bring them together in a meaningful way for the final battle." And they fucked it up. They got Chris, Sherry, Leon and Ada (kinda) in the same room, and they didn't do anything interesting with them.

Oh, and let's talk about Ada Wong: Capcom REFUSES to develop this bitch. Even in RE4, I was thinking "how long are they going to milk the 'mysterious spy' characterization?" Then at the end of her campaign (that lasted forever), the game ends with her going straight to her next mission. "So that's it? She's just a generic spy? There's no greater motive here? SHE REALLY IS JUST A COCKTEASE DRAGGING LEON THROUGH A 10-YEAR MINDFUCK!?!?! FUCK THIS GAME!!!" Character's like Ada are only interesting if there's substance underneath. If her whole relationship with Leon amounts to nothing more than her being a dumb bitch, then not only does this kill her story presence in RE6, but it RETROACTIVELY RUINS HER PRESENCE IN RE2 AND RE4.

RE5 may have been cheesey, shallow, and a bit frustrating, but at least it was sincere.

Impressed.

DMC- Beautiful game, well executed.

God of War III- Great graphics, awesome execution, relentless pace. One of my favorite action games this gen.

Uncharted series- Amazing games. The 2nd is the best in my mind, but all 3 are top shelf.

Enslaved- Solid action game. Beautiful game. Ninja theory is a very under rated developer.

Tomb Raider- Expands on the uncharted formula in all the right ways.

Hitman Absolution- Challenging and fun. Great stealth action.

Dishonored- See Hitman.

WWE All Stars- My favorite wrestling game this generation. Simple yet deep arcade style gameplay. Larger than life character models/finishing moves. Damn I wish there could've been a second one. RIP THQ.

Motorstorm series- Great off road racer. 2nd was the best. Sad to see evolution is moving on to a different series next gen.

InFAMOUS series- My favorite open world games this gen. Can't wait for the new one.

Just Cause 2- Open world chaos. Awesome game.

Red Dead Redemption. Cool game. Awesome western setting. Amazing story.

Max Payne 3- Old school gun play. Fun title.

Guess I'll throw out my disappointments later.

He's definitely a Templar.

Impressed?

Red Dead Redemption - My favorite Rockstar game to date. I don't even think GTA V will beat it imo.

Gears of War 1-3 - Very fun cover based shooter. I may get sour on it from time to time, but I love the franchise to death. Original weapons, original enemy types, cool characters and a fast paced story to top it all off. It's awesome

Madworld - Cool mature game for the Wii. I like the style and the gameplay was brutal too.

Shadows Of The Damned - Probably the most underrated game this generation. Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami created a masterpiece. Throw my favorite composer to my favorite video game franchise (Silent Hill) Akira Yamaoka in as the music composer and you got yourself one hell of a ride. It's lewd, it's crude, and it's hilarious as all hell. I can't wait for them to make the sequel.

Lollipop Chainsaw - Another Suda 51 game. After playing Shadows I couldn't pass up another Suda game. It's lighter and shorter than Shadows, but it still has that signature Suda 51 feel. It's wacky and offensive, but it's very fun. I said Suda, like, 3 times. Heh. Sudaaaaaaaaa. Suda. Okay.

Halo 3 - I like Halo. I like all 4 Halo's, but no Halo gave me more memories than Halo 3 did. It was incredible. The campaign mode, the multiplayer, the customization. It was all beautiful and awesome. I played this for hours upon hours with my closest friends and enjoyed the hell out of it. It's my favorite Halo game that's for sure and I will remember the good times I had with it.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron - Transformers: War for Cybertron is awesome and it came it before FoC did, but FoC is just the best Transformers game out to date. The opening theme when you press the start button is epic beyond belief and the campaign left me there wanting more. The ending is crazy and it makes me anticipate the third game every time I think about it. Multiplayer was a step up too. Letting you build a Transformer of your very own and extending the transforming into being a Dinobot or an Insecticon. Other then the boring Escalation mode (which was great in WFC by the way) this game is in tip top shape. I'd recommend it to any Transformers fan or someone who just wants to see alien robots beat the hell out of each other. :P

Deadly Premonitions - Another game with a cult following. It's a strange game on the surface, and if you can look passed some of it's main gripes, you're looking at a quirky and cool video game. I liked it.

Left 4 Dead - Grab 3 of your closest friends and hold on tight. This 4 player co-op survival horror game is awesome. Fight the horde of the infected while you try to make it from Point A to Point B in the fastest time without getting eaten alive by the zombie horde. They're fast and they're pissed, so you better get moving or else you'll be dinner. TAAAAAANK!!

Amnesia: Into Darkness - This game scares the piss out of me. That is all.

Disappointing?

Silent Hill: Homecoming - Geez I hate this game. It took everything that made Silent Hill out and try to modernize the hell out of it with shitty "jump scares" boring monster designs and a dull story. Okay okay Scarlett was a cool boss battle, but other than that this game had nothing going for it. Piss easy even on the hard difficulty and it was too damn short. I pass.

TES V: Skyrim - I just thought this game was extremely boring. I didn't enjoy it at all and find it incredibly dull.

AMY - A downloadable game that was broken to all hell. It disgusts me.

Gears of War: Judgment - I wanted to like it. I really did. It's not the worst game of all time, but it certainly stripped everything that made Gears of War and tried to appeal to the COD audience. No Locust, no DBNO, 4 maps on launch, a lackluster campaign, and a shitty one weapon loadout system. Pathetic.

Pokemon D/P/P - I thought the 4th generation of Pokemon sucked. I found it extremely boring. I can't even remember anything in that game aside from beating the gyms and elite four.

Temp, I hear ya. RE6 was bad, really bad. But somehow I still hold it slightly above RE5. Maybe it's because Chris wasn't punching boulders. Perhaps it was because RE5 softened the blow of disappointment, so RE6 was less disappointing.
