Maybe I was a little too general in saying "people who accept their religion as fact." I basically meant people who are intolerant of other religions and atheism.

And I wasn't referring to people who make fun of Americans, I meant bitter resentment and hatred. And when I said "infallible," I was referring mainly to the government's foreign policy. Here's an example of what pisses me off regarding this subject: Bush would often say the terrorists hated us because we're free. That's such a load of bullshit. The US government has been responsible for a huge amount of suffering around the world, usually for the benefit of corporate America. You remember those people dancing in the streets in the Arab world because of 9/11? It really bothered me when people would say they were evil, that they were the enemy. They're not evil; they're simply ignorant of the fact that most Americans never wished them any harm...just like most Americans are ignorant of why they hate us. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The government does not grant those rights; it recognizes and protects them. But we've never lived by that ideal. Did we recognize the right to live of the people we bombed in Iraq because their leader "might" have wanted to attack us? Did we recognize the right to live of the thousands killed in the coup we pushed in Chile in the 70s? Did we recognize the liberty of the Japanese-Americans we put in internment camps during WW2? How about the people being held indefinitely, without charge, in Guantanamo Bay? Ok, I agree with some of what you said. Japanese Americans being forced into internment camps was wrong. There was no excuse for that. And I know I'm going to come off as an asshole for saying this, but the Iraqy people arn't americans. We were in a war. Reguardless of the corectness of that war, we were in one, and unintentional civilion casualties are unavoidable.
As for people dancing in the streets after september 11, you didn't see americans doing that when we won the gulf war, or when we got rid of the talaban in packistan. I also think most educated people would agree that civilions dying is never a good thing. There was noone celebrating when it was announced that we'd bombed a civilion target.
Also, you say that they don't hate us because we're free, which I don't think I know enough about to give my opinion on, but in those countries where women have no rights, the fact that American women have equal rights as American men, might be as repulsive to them as womens lack of rights is to us in those other countries.
