Back whenever MK I came out my older brother and his friend played "some game that is extremely violent, and you can rip out YOUR OPPONENTS SPINE!!!".
So I tried it and was instantly hooked on it. I was a Street Fighter fan back then, so this was totally a breath of fresh air. Since then I have been hooked, and cannot help but to be hyped about all the future releases.

Woohoo, this story again, and I never get tired of telling it.
Okay, when MK was in the arcades, I was like, 1 year old, so of course I wasn't tall enough to reach the controls. Then, a year later, I saw MK2 in the arcades, and I saw the story screen, and I thought it was totally awesome, especially with Shao Kahn in the firey background. Then, 2 years later,I saw MK3 at a theater my preschool class went to, to see Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers:The Movie(STILL my favorite field trip EVER), and I so wanted to play it! I got a chance to at a birthday party at Frankie's Fun Park, and I played my mom. She beat me with Nightwolf. I am reeling over this, now what I know who Nightwolf is. And thanks to my Uncle's sucky judgement, I didn't get to see Mortal Kombat in theaters in '95, but I got to see it when it came out on tape in '97, and I thought it was cool. And that same year I saw Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and I....liked it...still do. Then, in 2000, I finally got to play Mortal Kombat 4 in the arcades, I liked that too. Then, in November 2002, my cousin brought over Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and I was out of Mortal Kombat years ago, so I was like, "Okay, lets do play it.". I was SOOOO fascinated by that game, that got me back into Mortal Kombat and onto this site. Last Valentine's Day I finally got my copy of Deadly Alliance. Then, last March(2003), I got MK1-UMK3 for my birthday for Genesis, but I didn't have an RF adapter. My Grandpa ordered it for me, and it got to my place a month later. But, the Friday of that weekend, my Dad and I had gone out and I got a Star Wars comic and Mortal Kombat 4 for PS. Then, later in August, the day after I got The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers DVD, I got Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition.
There, that's my WHOLE MK story. Oh yeah, in 2000 Mom got the Mortal Kombat DVD and in December 2002 Dad got the Mortal Kombat Annihilation DVD, and last May Mom ordered the Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins VHS and Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm: Sting of the Scorpion VHS.
THAT'S my whole MK story. Mussssst....presss.....ssssssubmit.

Where would YOU put this? I don't think there really is a specific place for this thread. Plus, this forum is dedicated to "Anything not discussed in the other forums". Talking about how you first started to get into MK isn't forum specific, and seeing as this is an MK site, the thread fits in fine.
Oh, and there has been a couple other threads just like this one in this forum and the Mods never closed it before.
I always tried to keep up with so called "underground" games that looked promising but might not make a big public apeal... I saw an article on MK1 about a year before it was scheduled to be released... at that time u could email some of the staff, developers, etc.... after talking with a few about the game I was very intrigued by it, so I went to my Cousins Video Game store and told him to reserve me a copy... he called me about 3 or 4 days before the game was scheduled to be released and told me I could go ahead and get it as long as I didnt tell anyone... needless to say I fell in love with it...

I walk into my local arcade way back in 1992(has it been that long)I was bout 15yrs old at the time.I walked over to the Street Fighter 2 game which was the hottest game out at the time. And I played a few games and beat a couple of people, but I noticed that there was few people gatherd around the machine which wasn't nomal on a Saturday. So I played the computer until I lossed then I walk over to where I saw a bunch of kids around a new machine.I saw two ninjas fighting one in black and blue the other in yellow and black. The graphics wre much more realistic then Street Fighter and that was the first thing that got me to notice. The kid on the machine was kicking everybodies butt left and right,so I got on the game and pick the same fighter he was using which was Sub-Zero.Need les to say I still got my butt kick but I put up a good fight. After a while no one wanted to fight the kid anymore so we let him play to see how far he could get. After about his third match aganist the computer he was beaten by the computer using the same character he was using Sub-Zero.But after he was beaten the screen got dark and the computer did a fatality, everyone around the machine went nuts. That was pretty much it for me and about 20 other kids around that machine we were hooked.I'm a die hard MK fan and will be one til the day I die.

I remember it like it was yesturday. During the summer of 1993 when I was at Dorney Park, I was checking out one of the arcades there when I first saw MK. The digitized graphics were what caught my eye as I watched as someone was playing it. I was only 12 at the time so the huge amounts of blood spewing from the fighters was cool. Then it happened, a blue ninja grabbed his opponent by the head and tore it off, along with his spine. I was mortified, and stunned, it was the coolest thing I had seen in my life. I played after he was done and quickly fell in love with the game. I remember only using the high punch button to beat the computer. I was on the Pit stage when I first pulled off an uppercut. and the results were awesome. I remember laughing as my opponent fell to his death. Ever since then, I have been a huge fan of MK, and will continue to be.

I was nine and the third MK had come out along with the movie. The country was on MK fever. I was living in Yugoslavia and my mom took me to a Sega Club. A club where you're allowed to play any games they have for sega for a limited amount of time and then pay the fee afterward. So I picked a crappy power ranger game and I kept dying to the boss. So, naturally, I chose another one. And as I recall it was MK3.
I instantly fell in love with the gore and mythical creature type characters. I played a bunch of times and each time I lost. But it didn't matter because the game had totally consumed my brain and it wasn't even about the controls or the gameplay. It was about the chracters and the storylines for me.
I was high on MK at that point and as soon as the second film had come out I had to leave for Canada. I then rented the first movie here and liked it even more than the game (I wasn't able to watch it over in Yugoslavia as I was too young). When I went to return the first MK film I saw MK:A sitting on the shelf and rented it aswell. I was about 12 so I really enjoyed MK:A. MK4 had come out during that time also and it quickly became my favorite of the series. And that's when I really got into MK. I started visiting the sites and everything.
And that kiddies is the story of how Brian became an MK fanatic. Spread the word.

Did they have pants with HUGE pockets in 1992? Because MK started as an arcade, and it wasn't THAT small.
i went to a small local sports card/comic book shop and they had just brought in a new arcade machine.i sat and waited until it was set-up and running, watched the opening clips.the owner then asked me if i wanted to play a few games for free and i sat there for 2 or 3 hours playing against him.
needless to say,i was hooked.
