When its a good/bad time to bring kids... Sorry for the long post ahead
I'm not a mother, at least not yet I'll wait a few years... But today, while celebrating my mom's birthday, I find it rather unusual and possibly finding it completely wrong to bring an infant to a place where we went for dinner. Chi Tung's grill seating, where the grill is literally right in your face.
I don't really understand why infants need to be dragged to places where they really shouldn't be at. Somewhere in the states, I believe Pennsylvania, where there's certain restaurants banning kids under the age of six.
I support that and wish it was where I'm at because, let's be honest, you're out and about either with your family or your significant other on a nice dinner date at a really fancy spot... You're having a conversation,
"Oh, how's your job going?"
"It's going--" "whahhhhhh!"
"Oh I'm sorry, what did you say?"
"It's--" "WHAAAHHH!!!"
It is really annoying to hear babies screaming while you're enjoying your time at a nice restuarant. I'll admit, I have twin cousins who were running and screaming at Bucca De Bepo, A.) the place isn't that big enough for roaming children, B.) My cousin's can't take care of their kids anyways.
There's certain places I would appreciate not seeing little children at such as nice restaurants as well as the movies.
When I went to see the first Transformers, there was an infant... WHY?! First off, the movie is rated PG-13, why kids so very young are at this movie is beyond me. I can tolerate a kid maybe five years younger than 13 being at this movie, providing that they're well-behaved, but an infant? Secondly, couldn't you get a babysitter? Why in the world are you taking a baby to a movie? And if the baby is crying, take him/her out of the theater so others can enjoy their movie rather than having a hard time hearing the conversation becuase the kid is balling their eyes out.
I just don't get how fancy restaurants as well as movies requires you to bring an infant. I can see why some are banning little children in. When it is a good time, you bring them to places that are kid friendly, not something that's more like a romantic night out or a movie that is definitely not suitable for young kids. If they have to sit in your lap, they shouldn't be there.
I know I'm dragging this issue out, but it really gets on my nerves to see infants as well as misbehaved children at places that don't requires them to be there at all. I would like your opinion, because I know I'm not the only one that wishes kids would stay home with babysitters or at a different place and not bothering me as well as other people around them when they're at a place that doesn't tolerate loud noises or misbehaved people. I'm sure it might frustrate you when you're on a nice night out with a few friends or a significant other or family with you and it's a bit of a fancy place, you're wearing casual clothing and not jeans, and you get disturbed by a misbehaved kid or a wailing infant.
Thoughts?

I have had to deal with this issue alot with my mom.
Imagine going to a theme park with a little child tagging along side you the whole time. One of us had to always stay and stand behind with my brother while the others happily enjoyed the ride.
This applies to restraunts as well. You have this squeeming baby up to your shoulders which means you can't enjoy your meal and then you have the whole restraunt resting their eyes upon you in pity and disbelief. -_-
Over the years I've found that most people that do this really don't have anyone else to watch their kid. My mom is a single mother. She can't be couped up in a house all day either so I can see why she does what she does.
Anyways, yes, it's annoying and the worst part is we really can't do anything about it.

The movies is the only place I really care about not seeing your baby.
also, don't have children, there are already 6.5 billion people in the world, we do not need any more.

This.
We need to stop making people feel good about breeding. It's not a good thing at all.
Also, the reason these people drag their child accessories everywhere is that:
a) Nannies are expensive
b) Babysitters are irresponsible teenagers
c) The children are accessories, like jewelry or a purse or an iPhone.
Truth be told, when I read that restaurants in Pennsylvania ban children under the age of six my first thought was:
1) That needs to be implemented worldwide.
2) Every venue of entertainment needs to adopt that (movie theatres, concert halls, bars, everything except monster truck shows. You can bring your infant to the monster truck show. No one will be annoyed by your infant at the monster truck show). Kids 2 to 6 can be allowed into kids movies only.

Haha, good stuff sir. Your posts usually make me chuckle.
And yes, quit reproducing! If you want a kid badly enough to consider having one, adopt one. I truly HATE when people go on about how great childbirth is and what a miracle it is.
It's no more a miracle than eating food and then making a turd out of it. A chemical reaction... nothing more. Lets get over ourselves.
@ the OP:
Yes, this really annoys the crap out of me also. I can understand people can't always get someone to watch their kid, and they shouldn't be left without the option of ever going out and enjoying themselves... but if your kid is acting a fool, correct the problem. If they continue to be disruptive, take them and GTFO. Be considerate of others.
Pennsylvania is sounding pretty nice now...

It troubles me that people feel this way. I mean, I hate screaming kids in public places as much as the next guy, but it's an aspiration of mine to have a family. I want there to be little versions of me running around, I think that'd be cool. To each their own, I guess.

I want a family for this reason: I want to live in space.
We keep having kids = The world gets over populated.
The world gets over populated = The people at NASA get to work on space shuttles that can house a good amount of people.
The people at NASA get to work on space shuttles that can house a good amount of people = I get to live in space.
I'm not sure I want a kid as much as a female clone of myslef.
That way I get to see what I would've been like if I were a girl, and I get to have a daughter that looks just like me.

Birth control is important but you're spreading the word in the wrong place I'm afraid. The most breeding people live in poor neighborhoods without a stable income and with a lot issues. The most of us spending time in an Internet forum are from rather good backgrounds yet many of us will never have children.
The problem lies in poor people breeding, that should be controlled by laws. If people with a good welfare were the ones making about three children a family and poor people would focus in improving their life quality, the world would be a much better place. Thus I'd suggest you to campaign in Africa and Far East to change people's opinions on life.
Don't worry, the world population is likely to decrease dramatically in natural catastrophes and in the possible WW3 in our life time anyway. That is not the solution but that is the effect if no one will stand up and everyone will suffer. What philosophy prefers suffering? Follow China. Or Finland (as Bill Clinton says).
On Original Post: Don't bring children to wrong places. You have responsibilities. If your child screams, consider it's you screaming as a carer. You can take a walk with your children, go to stores and shops with them and spend past-time with them as long as they won't become a disturbing issue to others.
By one perspective, humanity has alot less to do with animals. The number one virus is caused by procreation. Be careful with this thought though, a few minutes, and you would be advocating a mandatory holocaust to get rid of excess.
It is not even the number of people on the planet, but the horrible uneven distribution of resources.
And I am truly apalled by some of the baby-clinger tendencies, some things have no place in most places. Babies are not cute. My sister's newborn daughter wasn't cute. People who tell otherwise lie. That flesh isn't aesthetically pleasing, it is our genetically coded instinct that triggers sympathy etc. towards it. Slightly older kids, and toddler fashion shows and competitions...
Whoever assigns his or her kid into one of those kinds of shows (freak of nature that looks like a cross between a kid and a porcelain doll, NOTY TO MENTION the sexualization by wardrobe ON SIX YEAR OLDS!!!) should have his/her kid forcibly removed and deemed irrevocably unfit for parenting.
And I am not even pediophobic. It just irks me to see small kids unable to act like kids because of their fuckwit parents who rob them of their childhood.
Off course... yeah, too much emphasis on toddlers and kids and them and their mothers being excused from everything. My mother had to send me to live my first 7 years with my grandmother because she could not afford TIME to be there daily. And by time I mean 12 hours of work/travel. Same with dad. And we are alot more happier than what I have seen in the west.
So if I see any USA mother I simply think we had done with alot more less and have done alot more better. Not disregarding those who TRULY have 0 time and finances to do so, those have my sympathies. The majority, for the simple mathematical truth of them being not as needy don't.
Alot is wrong with our concept of child and child picture in our society...

Don't get me wrong, I cannot wait to have children of my own some day and be with me to restaurants and such... But then there are those who have their parents unable to take responsibility and realizes that if the kid is out of control, they need take control of the misbehave kid and get them to knock it off. I don't want to be like that if I'm taking my kid out to places. Yeah they can act like a kid, but they shouldn't be completely out of control where they're a distraction to other people. I just think that's wrong.
I bring topics like this in front of my mom. She tells me that both me and my brother were never out of control at places like restaurants or movies or any other place. They knew when to punish us if we do tend to get out of hand, but when we were never misbehaving, we're told that it felt like you didn't even know we were there.
I just wish some parents knew how to handle their kids better. There was another Yahoo article that said more states are doing stuff like that, but some of the stuff they're banning is ridiculous. They were mentioning things like stuff outdoors kids aren't allowed to be at. That's just wrong.
Granted that I still think this is fine, it just depends on where you bring your children at and if its at a fancy, elegant place, don't bring the kid. Don't being really underage kids to the movies if you cannot find anyone to watch the kid. If you're out and about and your kid is a huge distraction, please just take some action.

I agree that very young children shouldn't be in certain places. I frequently go to hockey games, and sit in an area where pucks frequently fly off the ice and land in the crowd. I can't tell you how many people are there with their babies! It's really loud there as well.

I really don't have much to add to what was already said, but I agree: parents need to learn to control their children. If your child is freaking out or can't behave in a restaurant, then you need to get your order to go or take him outside for a bit until he calms down. For movie theaters, do the same thing. In fact, the theater my fiancee and I go to actively encourages parents to take disruptive children outside.
Then again, you're probably dealing with parents who don't have many manners or consideration for others themselves. One time my fiancee and I were at dinner, and there was a large family or two (if more than one, they were together on the same check) in the booths across the aisle from us. It was the most horrid experience we'd ever had with screaming kids. The children were unruly and kept running up and down the aisle, nearly tripping up the server on more than one occasion. The parents did nothing about them and it was obvious by their attitude that they didn't care. When it came time to get the bill, the parents bitched because the gratuity had been automatically added (as it was a large party), and after management finally agreed to remove it, they didn't leave a tip at all. After they had left, it was discovered they had stolen all the silverware and sweetener packets. The only piece of silverware they had left behind was the fork the kid had flung away; it had landed under our table and we only found it as WE were leaving.
I can do you one better. A few years back, a friend of mine and I went to go see Kill Bill Vol. 1 at a theater by where he worked. As he went to go get popcorn, I went into the theater to get us seats. As I walked in, I realized I was behind a woman with two children, neither of which were older than five. I just shook my head and took my seat, because I couldn't believe someone would take a kid to a film like that.
A couple of minutes later, my friend appeared at the bottom of the theater and beckoned to me. I came down, and he said, "Dude, this is the wrong theater."
I actually breathed a sigh of relief, and followed him out. Apparently this theater was right next to ours and I simply went in the wrong door. So, the woman wasn't as much of a bad parent as I had expected. As we walked out, I looked up at the sign, to see what movie was showing in that theater.
It was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre...

I don't understand why parents can't really tame their kids. The stories that you told, DArqueBishop, I'm shocked to see that the parents in your diner story did such a thing.
And going to see TCM? Wowsers, yeah those kids aren't going to be normal for a few nights.
I don't quite understand it with the movies and children. It's not like they're NOT going to understand what they're watching if you take them to see something that's not their age.
I went to go see the Roommate, yeah it was stupid, but there were some intimidating scenes. There were at least two kids that had to be about five in there screaming. At least the mother was nice enough to take the kids out when they started, but why take them to see that movie in the first place when there was like a suitable movie that was probably out to see instead?
I think that most people with kids who aren't age appropriate thinks that these movies won't effect their kids... Uh, yeah right.

The Idea that there's too many people in the world is and always will be idiotic to me, people die just as fast if not twice as fast as babies are born it's called nature.
Anyway I agree there are certain places children shouldn't be taken to, I don't really go out as often as I used to now that I have 2 kids of my own because usually those places were the type that I easily got annoyed hearing some kid screaming their head off in the background, would be kind of hypocritical if I did that. lol
but even if I did my kids are actually pretty well behaved and easy to keep quiet I had no problems at all when I took them to see toy story 3 (that movie was pretty damn dark for a kids movie though I mean wow)
