So, yay for me.

While I hate racism, I do not see why it's considered ok for African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans, etc. to be proud of their background but if a European-American is proud of their background, it is presumed they are racist.

I know Euro-Americans have a bad track record with racism, and it still exists today, but this is the year 2004 and it was previous generations who perpetuated that type of bad stuff.

I don't know if what I am saying makes any sense, but it is how I feel.

Euro-American's are in discriminated against just like everyone else is. Yes we have had a pretty bad track record, but again like it was posted above this is 2004, we're not all bad. Irish American's were slaves just like African Americans, but that is almost always overlooked. Let me state a point that I made in a debate seminar:

Let's imagine for a moment if the KKK simply promoted the message, "It's good to be white." They never harmed anyone, or said anything negative about other races, ethnicities, sexual preferences, or creeds. People would still hate them, so where is the line of racism drawn?

A good point was made, that discrimination has been historically common against certain European ethnic groups as well. For the longest time only Anglos were considered 'white', while Italians and Irish were considered not so, and faced a lot of discrimination.

Today for example, most people do not consider Hispanic to be white despite the fact it really does apply to a European ethnicity(Chicanos, the Aztec/Spanish racial type is a different discussion though), but they are not considered 'white'. And it was that way back at the beginning of the 20th century for Italians. Italy and Spain are both mediterranean, Latin European countries.

Yet, Italians are called 'white', while Hispanics are not. These different racial labels sometimes seem to make no sense to me. A lot of the time infact.

Sorry for rambling on, but my point is the whole White vs. everyone else(i.e. whites keeping everyone else down), at this point in history, seems trivial. My opinion, is that the whole whites vs. minority thing is meaningless, the real divisions in our society now are socioeconomic. But we ignore these issues, and often times slip back in to the old patterns of racism and prejudice.

I am not 100% White. I am close to 1/5th Native American, and I have just a touch of Middle Eastern(Turkish) ancestry. But still I'm like 75% European.

Although, now that Turkey is integrating into Europe, you might be able to consider Turkish ancestry European as well. I'm not sure.

you know I actually had a discussion with a melting pot of people the other day. They asked me if I could be any race or ethnicity what would I choose. The reason they asked is because I completely break the typical white american mold. But I surprised them with the answer, "100% Irish" which is what I am. I have no reason why, other then I feel that because of the stereotypes and racism in the world I will be provided more opportunities then say, a hispanic person. It's sad the world is like that, but it is. Although I wish I was a bit more tan...

Yeah, this lady who works at my school, she is half Italian and Puerto rican, anyway she told me that Italians don't claim Sicilians as their own.
