Cats are probably smarter they maintain the appearance of stupidity so that they don’t ever have to do anything other then lay around and act pretty. As for Humans... wow the dumbest creature on this craptacular planet.

lets see, dogs, representitive, lassie, a fucking moron cuz everyday she would have to save that timmy, hell if she was smart she just leave timmy down the well and leave him there so she didnt have to constantly go after him, cats, represntative, maggie (my cat) drives people nuts and messes everywhere to make people clean it up, has a completely organized organization with the other three in a devious plan to take over the house, then the world, so yeah i'd say cats are smarter.

Dogs, are by far smarter - Cats are stupid, they don't give affection unless you perceive rubbing on your leg to be fed when you walk in the door as affection. Cats are entirely independent - dogs on the other hand strive for contact and love to have interaction with their owners - this is a sign of advanced thought patterns.

Your cat is smart because he knows he'll be fed if it rubs your leg. Cats are also (you said it yourself) completely independent. A dog isn't and he still can't figure out that he can get extra food by rubbing your leg.

So I don't think that not giving affection means they're stupid.
