The next day I went to another local comic shop and picked up six more comics. The day after that I went to a different store and got eight more and bought cardboard backings and plastic covers. Got four more comics after that at yet another local store (got a super good deal on some old Batman variant covers).
Then a friend informed me of four or five second-hand stores a town over that had lots of old comics for sale. I took a trip and bought about forty comics that day, all at about one or two dollars a piece. I found out that twelve issues of "Wierd Western Tales" featuring Scalphunter that I had bought for 50 cents an issue were worth about 5 to 10 dollars an piece. I hit the jackpot.
Now my bedroom wall is decorated in the comics I've accumulated over the last week. I've always loved comics but for some reason never thought of collecting them. I always used to overlook the massive bins filled with back issues, but now they're the first thing I go to. I used a price guide and calculated the value of my collection; it's already worth over $500. I know that's very modest compared to veteran collectors, but it just blew my mind that I had accumulated that much in just five days.
So I wanted to know who else indulges in this great hobby?
how long have you been collecting?
how many comics do you own? (estimated)
whats your favorite comic that you have?

Shao Kahn did nothing wrong
I'm trying to collect a lot as of now.

Dedicated, hopeless...Li Mei fan.

Love comics. I usually just end up buying compilations/graphic novels because it's just easier and you can get whole story arcs in one book. What got me hooked was Batman's "The Killing Joke" and my collection has grown to encompass a whole variety of genres. My favorite was and still is Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim.
Forgot about Mr. Pilgrim. I have all of those graphic novels myself.

I have stacks of graphic novels, they used to be all I read as far as comics are concerned.
I find that I tend to favor stuff I liked when I was a kid; x-men, teenage mutant ninja turtles, simpsons comics. So I ended up with a lot of those in my collection. Right now I'm really into superhero comics so I also have batman superman, etc. Never read Scott Pilgrim though, I think my most favorite recent comic has been Milllar's 'Nemesis'.
