Youtube and video games
On Youtube, there is an annoying tendency for people who upload vids of games (be it playthrough, displaying some aspect of the games, etc) to either play music over it (rock or heavy metal especially) or comment while playing. Why in the bloody hell would I want to hear their lame-ass commentary? So many of these assholes have irritating voices and mannerisms, and their humour is just plain pathetic most of the time.
In the case of music, I wonder what makes them think they can do better than the games themselves. So many atmospheric games, or cutscenes within games, ruined because of failed attempts at "enhancing" them. Oh, metal! How edgy! Uploaded scenes of movies tend to have the same problem. I once looked for the chase sequence from "The Dark Knight", which features minimal music, which added to it. Some assholes sadly disagreed.
I know what some would say: avoid those vids. Jee, thanks. I never could have thought of that myself. Believe me, I do try to find vids of my liking, but instead I frequently find the crappy ones I'm talking about. Sometimes, after frustrating searches I do finally find something, but there are times when I find nothing, and I have to settle to watching vids with the sound turned off.
I just had to get this off my chest.

In some cases in playthroughs the (usually) guy tells about mechanics, secrets, comments on the story and plot, etc. These things are fine, they provide insight or information. If they flavour it with their humour, depending on their obnoxiousness they can be mildly annoying, generally funny, or irritating.
I prefer DSPGaming (DarkSydePhil) for occasional insight, and some genuinely entertaining comments. He is obnoxious but it doesn't distract me from the playthroughs. He will get tiring after a while, but that applies to everyoone in real life from neighbours, to wives to lovers etc.
One more thing however: Freeman's Mind.
Half-Life walkthrough with commentary done IN CHARACTER of Gordon Freeman (well, Gordon is silent) which results in truly hillarious moments.
It is basically a show. Try it.

These pricks do not need to tell us about game mechanics, that's something people should figure out themselves. And like I said in my OP, why would I even remotely care what they think of the plot? Most of these guys are stupid and make profoundly ignorant comments anyway.
I did just now give the first "Freeman's mind" vid a try, and I was already annoyed by the twat's "humour". The only funny thing about it is that it's supposed to be funny. Just like those vids with "funny" in the title, almost like it's supposed to make them more watchable. Ha!
A lot of these people also frequently upload vids of themselves playing and beating games on the easiest difficulty settings. Such phenomenal entertainment these vids make! Such endlessly amazing exploits!

Oh my god, I have never heard such wisdom! Such a deep, thorough reply! And I'm certain, with a sense of observation as sharp as yours, that you've noticed that I said I did find myself settling to watching vids with the sound turned off, in my OP! No way you could have missed that bit! Sherlock Holmes, eat your heart out!
You do realize, oh my brilliant friend, that when you mute it, it's not just their commentary that won't be heard, right? Ah what the hell, of course you do!

Do they really need to be called "pricks," "stupid," and "twats" just because you have an issue with their voice or their taste in music in their videos?
People upload stuff on Youtube whatever they feel like ad how they feel like. And if they happen to play music over the game, have commentary in their videos, then so be it. If you find it completely annoying where its THAT big of a deal with you, press the back button and keep searching until you find one video that satisfies you.
I also don't understand why the difficulty of the game that's being uploaded is that big of a mockery here. So what, it's what they felt like playing and how they're playing the game. Is it immoral that someone uploads a game played on easy difficulty? Or if anyone who has to upload a video on youtube that has themselves playing a video game, it HAS to be on the hardest difficulty?
And guys, stop with the smartass comments.

If you wanted to rant about these videos and not foster an actual discussion, then you may as well have posted this in the Drive-By Thread. MKO is not livejournal where you make threads to "get stuff off your chest," you're sharing thoughts, opinions, and beliefs with other users, and they are sharing their stories with you and the rest of the community. If you're going to remain so close-minded about helpful instruction/game mechanic videos, then you may as well just post this rant elsewhere, as it doesn't need its own thread.
