Has anyone else been introduced to comics via this game?

I'm a huge MK fan and back when Injustice was announced I decided I would get some comics to give me some more background on the characters and universe.

I'm so glad I did, I"m hooked now, I never realised what I was missing out on!

Exactly my feeling! I was introduced into comics by a friend, during Grant Morrison's "Final Crisis" (fantastic story-line by the way, however 'polarizing').

I really enjoy comics, period. It's very relaxing to read before bed.

My favorite titles currently are:

Aquaman
Green Lantern
Flash
Phantom Stranger
Justice League (with Shazam back-up)
Batman
Injustice (of course)

I've followed them most all my life. Got hooked as a kid, an never looked back. I consider myself a Veteran in comics. But be fooled not Razors Edge, Mick & Black Cyborg to name a few are also very intellectual as well.

I would love to read comics, but it's difficult to find a starting point when there's no someone to hold your hand through the process. Marvel's online archives are amazing. I'd be much more inclined to read DC if they had a similar setup.

There is actually no better time to start reading DC Comics than now. The New52 was a 'reboot' of their universe. Every series started over at issue 1. While some past continuity is in place, for the most part any new reader can pickup and go from issue one and not be lost.

Marvel is a bit trickier. They are doing their Marvel NOW initiative however it's not technically a 'reboot'. All the previous continuity is in place they've just starting major books/characters with issue #1's as a way to bring in new readers since they are great jumping on points. But Unlike DC which did their whole universe, Marvel is doing this gradually so you still have some books that are running at their normal pace/release and issue #.

I feel you man. I always liked superhero stuff (shows and movies) but I got involved in the comic scene last year around my 21st bday. My main influence to comics where the Arkham games (reading the bios) and Avengers movie.

So my first comic was Nightwing Lost Year. I started liking Nightwing because I learned from my hardcore Batman cousin the Grayson becomes Nightwing (I was always a Robin fan, woo underdog characters!)and when I got GOTY AC game, I played the hell out of Nightwing lol
I like how he is funny, sarcastic in fights and it a lady killer (something im definately am not, I respect the ladies) lol

After getting the Nightwing comic,I started looking into other items and eventually I picked up Batman Battle for the Cowl(Awesome read), N52 Nightwing Vol 1(Imgoing to start collecting N52 stuff since its recent) and got myself 2 Nightwing shirts and other comic clothing lol

I think I like DC comics a bit mlte since I think DC has better stories for my taste (dark and mature) but I still like Marvel too. Oh and I prefer getting graphic/collected books since I like having a complete story to read than a simgle issue lol

I was so excited when I learned Nightwing got tobe a fighter for Injustice. That alone merits my 100$ for this game :D

I'm a big comic fan myself. I have about 10k issues in my basement from the 70's to the 90's. I stopped reading in my early 20's, but now that comics are digital I've gotten back into the habit BAD. I miss visiting a comic shop and owning a physical copy but Comic shops are hard to find, and when you have the amount of comics I already have, storage space is only an escalating problem. Digital solves all this, plus i get comics on demand which is awesome.

I currently read the following books monthly:

DC (all new 52):
Animal Man
Aquaman
Batman
Deathstroke
Detective Comics
Dial H
Flash
Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
Green Lantern: The New Guardians
Justice League
Nightwing
Red Lanterns

Marvel:
Avengers (Marvel Now)
All New X-Men (Marvel Now)
Amazing Spider-man (concluded now)
Deadpool (Marvel Now)
Daredevil
Iron Man (Marvel Now)
Punisher: War Zone (5 issue series i believe)

Boom Comics:
Hellraiser

I'm also looking forward to these new books when the release:
Justice Society of America
Constatine
Uncanny X-Men

Definitely gonna second this. If you want to get into DC, now is the best time to do so. They rebooted every series, and they are only on #17 of most of their titles. That's not hard to catch up on at all. You can read 17 issues over the weekend, or in a few hour sitting. 17 issues would probably run you $40. Really not that bad. But to go cheaper, just get the volumes on sale now on amazon.com. You get 6 issues in 1 book, and it's usually only $13-$15. Pretty awesome. So if you want to get into Batman(my personal favorite and has been some of the best Batman storytelling in a long time (all the issues have gotten 8.5-10 reviews, Scott Snyder is on fire)), they have the first volume on amazon, and the second comes out in March.

Batman Vol 1:
http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Vol-The-Court-Owls/dp/1401235417/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid;=1360802470&sr;=8-1&keywords;=batman+new+52

His is one of the best series going right now(Don't waste your money on The Dark Knight or Detective Comics series, the quality isn't up to par).

Other series that are getting decent reviews:

Swamp Thing Vol 1(also written by Scott Snyder):
http://www.amazon.com/Swamp-Thing-Vol-Raise-Bones/dp/1401234623/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1360802662&sr;=1-1&keywords;=swamp+thing+52

Aquaman Vol 1:
http://www.amazon.com/Aquaman-Vol-Trench-New-52/dp/1401235514/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1360802719&sr;=1-1&keywords;=aquaman+52

Blue Beetle Vol 1:
http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Beetle-Vol-Metamorphosis-New/dp/1401237134/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1360802766&sr;=1-1&keywords;=blue+beetle+52

Green Lantern(Sinestro) Vol 1:

http://www.amazon.com/Green-Lantern-Vol-Sinestro-Graphic/dp/1401234550/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1360803282&sr;=1-1&keywords;=green+lantern+52

Unfortunately, Justice League, Flash, Superman etc., haven't gotten as good of reviews. So I would wait on those, and start reading some ones that are of quality to really get you hooked by the writing.

There's no better time to jump in. Don't let it go because you are scared to start, because it's still soon enough from the reboot that you can get up to speed easily. Get one of these volumes, and then if you enjoy it, visit your local comic book store and they'll have previous issues for you to continue from where the volume stops, and get caught up.

If you enjoy these characters, be it through movies, animated shows, or games, the comics are the place to go for the best stories and great interactions between all these characters. You don't even have to like reading. I don't care for reading long books, but comic books are great for art, and feature awesome storytelling that are just enough to take 20 minutes to read per issue. So it's not overbaring.

There's a whole history of great books as well, that you can get on amazon. Amazon is your best bet for old story arcs put into books. Superman: Red Son is only $11.07 on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Superman-Red-Son-Mark-Millar/dp/1401201911/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1360803152&sr;=1-1&keywords;=superman+red+son

Batman The Dark Knight Returns is $11.39:

http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Knight-Returns-Frank-Miller/dp/1563893428/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1360803190&sr;=1-1&keywords;=batman+the+dark+knight+returns

Batman The Long Halloween(one of my personal favorites) is $16.49:

http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Long-Halloween-Jeph-Loeb/dp/1401232590/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1360803217&sr;=1-1&keywords;=batman+the+long+halloween

Blackest Night is $13.59:

http://www.amazon.com/Blackest-Night-Geoff-Johns/dp/1401229530/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1360803371&sr;=1-1&keywords;=blackest+night

Point being, these aren't unobtainable. They aren't hard to get. You just have to take that first step, buy one of these awesome stories, enjoy the art and stories presented, and if you dig it, you'll be hooked. From there, it's just simply visiting your comic book shop and picking up the latest issues and going from there. DC titles only come out 1 issue per month, that's really easy to manage. It does not hurt to try. : )

in case anyone is interested, this site

http://www.instocktrades.com/specials/6/DC%20Archives

is having a 45% off discount on all their DC graphic novels. I'm not sure if it's temporary but it's been going on for 5 days so far (I bought 4 trade paperbacks and 2 hardcovers for 60 dollars and free shipping on the weekend, still waiting for them to get here)

and this other site

http://www.tfaw.com/Promos/Red-Hot-Sale

is having a 20-60% sale on everything until february 28. from there I would only go for the singles that they have, as for the graphic novels they are currently cheaper on that previous site I linked to

and if you're trying to keep track of an ongoing series I would suggest you use this site

http://www.comiclist.com/index.php

and if you had to collect only one of the new 52 series I would choose Justice League, because that's the main universe

and that's my comicbook advice

Ha! I had a feeling you would feel the same way Minion. The diversity in this team alone I think will make it great. Plus im glad Catwoman is going to be with a good writer again....Nocenti on her solo book just isnt up to par in my opinion.

I dunno if I feel particularly excited for JLA. It will be nice to see J'onn on the League again, but I dunno if I like the rest of the team. Frankly, seeing a young, beardless Ollie hanging out with a Lantern who's not Hal is a constant, painful reminder for me that the reboot basically deleted one of my favorite characters.
Both Justice League titles will be written by Geoff Johns, right? I'm not sure I'm looking forward to that given how shallow and Michael Bay-esque those first two storylines with Darkseid and the dude who makes ghosts were.

I think Johns is spread a little too thin between all his books and being a DC TV-and-movies exec now and hasn't really been able to bring his A-game to anything except GL. Though the Atlantis war stuff has been a lot better, and he is finishing up on GL, so hopefully he'll be able to clean up his act.

Well Im sure I am a little biased towards the new JLA since Catwoman is part of it but I really like the sort of oddball thing the team has going for it. Plus I believe that they will play a part in the new "Trinity War" storyline that is coming up so I am excited to see what is in store for that. And speaking of the new JLA does anyone think that Katana might show up in Injustice? I think she would be make a pretty good character...sorta like the Kenshi of this game.

I usually eat up any Geoff Johns does so I'll certainly check out JLA. I'm not nearly as crazy about the lineup on that team though.

I'm really looking forward to Constantine's stand alone book.

I do plan on buying the Green Lantern new 52 volumes since I've heard incredibly good things about them. However, the New 52 can only get me so far. I don't just want to get into comics; I want to get into comic history. Golden Age, Silver Age, etc.. That was what was so cool about the Marvel Digital subscription. I was able to start on page 1 of any character I desired. I started reading Dr. Strange, Nick Fury, and was gonna start up Iron First, but I ran out of time.

If DC had a subscription where I could start reading from the very first appearance of my favorite DC characters, I'd buy a few cases of beer and go to town on 'em.

They do have TONS of back issues digitally and they add more every day. You can go back pretty far for both Marvel and DC, a bit more for DC right now though.

True, but for DC, you have to buy by the issue. For the amount of comics I want to read, that just isn't a reasonable option.

Marvel has all-the-comics-you-can-read for about $60 a year (cheaper if you know how to fish for discounts). If I had to pay two bucks for all the comics I read on Marvel's site, I'd be out WAY more than that, lol.
