Its because he is a good guy gone very bad.

Jason Todd (The Current Red Hood) was brutally murdered by the Joker while he was Robin.

He was actually voted to be killed off by the public.

He was then resurrected by Ra's Al Ghul, because he felt guilty, there was no "Justice" in Robin's death. But the Lazarus Pit tends to fuck up people's minds.

So he eventually returns to Gotham and Black Mask is the guy trying to run the Underworld and he murders criminals/Black Mask thugs to send a message that HE is the guy they need to follow.

This is all Pre Nu 52 So I dont know if its still the correct history.

I agree overall though, dont want him, might have been cool in the Story mode, much like most of the character but it wasn't to be.

Rather have Black Canary, Power Girl, Robocop, Darksied etc.

I guess Red Hood gets his fans because of his personality.

What's funny to me, is people hating on Power Girl because she's 'just a Superman clone', but in the same breath keep rooting for RH to make it into the game.

And remember all those 'no more Batman characters!' outcries?

I get why people want him, though. He's edgy, a rebel, an anti-hero (that alone automatically labels him as 'cool' to many people). Plus he's got dual guns (who doesn't love dual guns, right?), a leather jacket and his red mask is pretty sweet as well. So I understand why he's popular with some.

But in the end, he's going to bring nothing new to the table. He's an acrobatic (Nightwing) assassin (Deathstroke) with guns (Deathstroke again) who was trained by Batman (Batgirl/Nightwing again).

But hey, people say that about Power Girl as well (bringing nothing new to the table... even though Batgirl plays nothing like Batman, just like Zod plays nothing like Superman), and I still want her in. So it's all good. If they want Red Hood in the game, who am I to argue, right? Personally though, I don't think he should get a spot.

If you want another martial artist in the game, then go with Black Canary. She's go that Canary Cry at least.

But if we only have 2 spots remaining, then I think there are far better (and more unique) choices to pick from. Like Starfire, for example.

I think people forget this is a game, meaning you need good gameplay first. Seem to be too much concern for backstory/looks/costumes when deciding who they want in.

I honestly doubt he would play any different. I really don't want him in.

People want him because they like him. I think that's it that's all.

As for Powergirl, I don't feel strongly about her but a female grappler could be fun. Give a guy the tit-squeeze of death.

Yeah as far as Power Girl goes I prefer Supergirl but that's not a HUGE difference you know? Being a lady grappler would be cool, I can see her getting some of Jax's moves. Flying fist first at someone then bringing them in the air and breaking their backs. Maybe some Sonya style Arc Kick type move as well.

She should also get Rain' roundhouse kick... but make it a punch. That would be funny. Hit 'em so hard they come flying back from the other side.

Swamp Thing was in cool for others, me...I don't really know about him so I can't talk

Blue beetle is, seems like someone I would buy. Some will like, others hate

Black Canary, I'd definitely like her, others wouldn't

If Power girl is in cool, for some, others (kind of me) not too much or at all (im slightly biased with 'Super' Characters though ironically I think Superboy is cool, based off Young Justice...)

So no matter what, 50% will be pleased, 50% will be pissed.

Red Hood has a lot to bring to the table. Granted that some of it is fan service, but isn't that what DLC is? The DLC characters weren't in the story, they are just characters that you can play as, and they shouldn't have such a high bar set for them. "Look it's a new character, they better not be like anybody else!" F that! NRS got there shot to deliver what they think we like. DLC is our turn to say "awesome game, but can you add this to it"

That aside, watching Red Hood fight Joker would be amazing! I would consider his fighting style(like most)to resemble Nightwing. Hit B or circle to switch between Hand or Gun attacks.. Put some specialty knife attacks in there along with grappling hooks and bombs. I would also like to have a Robin look as his alternate costume. A special move could be; Jason starts is off with a knife combo, then throws a grappling wire around the player, pulls out dual handguns and lays into them, after the opponent falls, Red Hood puts a current through the wire and electrocutes them :)

Oh yeah, seeing a duel between RH and Joker would be pretty sweet.

Though I would still prefer someone else. The main reason for this being the fact that he's got no real superpowers. Okay, Catwoman also has no superpowers and neither do Deathstroke, Batman, Nightwing, ... I get that. But if we're only going to get 2 more characters, then I'd rather them be people with actual powers instead of a 'normal' guy with guns.

Like I mentioned Starfire. There no fire-based character in the game, except for maybe Scorpion. Or Black Canary... although I don't think putting her in only for that one vocal move would be enough. I would rather see characters that bring a whole new set of powers to the game. (Yes, I know that when I say this, I'm actually speaking against Power Girl.)

Beast Boy or Swamp Thing are also good examples, although NRS probably isn't going to put a controllable shapeshifters in the game (the days of MK2-3 Shang Tsung aren't coming back anytime soon, I reckon). Sure, MM is also a shapeshifter, but he only changes during the intro, outro and super... and we don't control him at that point.

Blue Beetle might also be nice, but I fear his powers are too close to Cyborg's, at least visually.

So while I have nothing against RH (the dude kicks some major ass), I honestly feel that it would be a waste of a slot, based on powers alone.

But ofcourse, that's just me talking here.

though I would not mind Red Hood. personally; some cool next characters would be

Heroes: Black Canary, Starfire, Fire or Firestorm would be cool (though Starfire or Fire just cause the game needs more dames lol), Red Tornado

villains: Red Volcano, Nekron, I think Scarecrow can be cool if they give him weaponized fear tools, Larfleeze, Circe?

I personally dont want him in, I understand that people like him and they want him in but there are more characters with a kind of potential that hasn't been displayed in the game yet.

It was a great animated film, somewhat recent, that was likely the first exposure to the character for many average fans of the genre. So it's likely that this is what brought people on to the character. Understandably so.

Personally, I think it's about time we all grow up and just accept that we all have our favorites. It doesn't matter if they are similar in powers/abilities/style of another character. At the end of the day, they can be made to play completely differently.

If you can have Captain Marvel and Black Adam, Hal and Sinestro, Bane and Grundy, as well as Batman and Batgirl etc. and they all play differently... You can have Deathstroke and Red Hood, Power Girl and Superman, Swamp Thing and Ivy, Frost and Freeze/Cold, Zatanna and Fate etc.

It really doesn't matter. They design them to serve different purposes (rush, close, defensive, mid, range, brawler, grappler, fast, slow, powerful, combo heavy, special heavy etc.).

Don't try and belittle someone else's favorite.

It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that he used to be Robin from that one comic, oh what's it called....Batman and Robin! It probably has nothing to do with the controversial killing of Robin chose via phone over 25 years ago. And it's definitely got nothing to do with the comics that brought him back, resulting in shaking up the entire DC Universe. New 52 probably didn't bring in a new audience either.
