this ain't too shabby UR. I like the background, it dosen't look like a cpoy/paste job, and it looks cool.
The characters look alright, but they could be better. Again, this could be copy and paste, but still decent job on the characters. Still, i don't like Mileena's stance.
The wind by Fujin looks good, but this looks like it might be a PS effect.
The main thing i dislike about this fake is the title...... Chill Out would be a better name for a fake with Sub-Zero imo, but at least you came up with a more eye-catching title that some fakes.
I like this one, UR. Sure, some could be copy/paste or PS effects, but it looks pretty cool. If you make more fakes reminescent of this then i might enjoy seeing more of your work.

I like the stage. Reminds me of my vision of Zaterra, somewhat.

Copy and paste was briefly used in this piece. The stage construction took a good while. Plus those effects were hand tailored. I need to pass them onto someone that has some talent...

Nice background
Tree doesn't go well with background
Mileena looks weird
A little bit of copy and paste
4/5
Nice work
Everything except the trees and the sky is copy and paste. The ground you cut out from the living forest. The bushes, once again Living Forest. Sprites are 3-D copy/paste. That mountain all the way to the right is the mountain from the MKII battle plan, it's just darkend. The wind, trees and sky is pretty cool. You could add some shadows. You should definatly get rid of the living forest tree. 2/5

So basically you guys are saying it's good, as long as it's not copy/paste. Gotcha

exactly
it's like saying "that drawing is really good.. did you trace it?"
if it's traced it's no good, if it's all original than yeah. it's good.

That's right. I'm no professional artist or graphics designer, but even I can tell you that people are looking for originality, It's what they want. People want to see imagination. You have good concepts for these fakes but you're not putting the effort to make them based on the critiques you are given. Take Keith for example, he made his own sprites and used them for his artwork. Why don't you try making your own sprites as well and see what you can come up with and then try to develope your own styles?

So it sounds like the consensus is that work should be judged off of principle and not the artistic end result. Would you agree?

The consensus is that bad art is bad art. Fakes aren't art, but thats another argument.
You see, as you've plainly demonstrated, anyone can paste a couple guys on a background and throw on some Photoshop effects. What we look for here, apparently, is some change to take place within it. We want new graphics new backgrounds, new everything. We've seen the old sprites over and over again, we want something new (in this case, that 'new' thing is edits, but you can make totally custom sprites if you want.)
Also, no one wants to be presented with something they could've made themselves. Cut and paste jobs are boring and rated low due to this as well.

I'm not trying to belittle you or anything but people would appreciate the artwork more if you had worked harder on it. The artistic end result comes from the amount of principle you put into it, or is it the other way around? bleh lol, too many big words.
The point is, people look at the amount of effort you put into your artwork. Art is something that takes time to create but the longer you work on it, the better it can be. Just because you actually "finish" something doesn't mean that it's truly done. There are artists that I know from deviantart who spend hours doing touchups on their work and even then, they still feel that it's not finished. Art is not a talent where you just take things and just copy and paste and expect to be this really good artist in a day. If you are truly accustomed to what you want, and I know you enjoy making fakes, you should try to sit down, think about how and what you want to do with a fake and do it with the best of your knowledge with the programs that you have. You can download GIMP, it's free, so why don't you try it? (That is if you didn't) and I know Photoshop is like $350 or something like that. So just try to think about that and practice a lot and believe me, patience will reward you.

why do you even post here if you hate everyone who criticizes you?
you make a cut/paste fake, people don't like it. you argue. in every single one of your threads.
why not find a forum where everyone just compliments you, like you apparently want?
why do you keep returning just to argue with people's views on your "artwork"?

Good points there. Though I dont feel the need to put unnecssary edits in my work. My recent pieces came out well enough without them. However, if a situation arose where I did not have the resources to communicate an idea, then I would take the time to do it. To each his own.

well... tell me if i'm wrong but I'd guess u made the fake basically out of the idea of the tornado.. so basically the whole fake is just bg for the wind effect... since its what I do a lot of the time...
basically 5/5 for the effect...
basically 5/5 for the effect...

Each genre of Art, from pixel art, to abstract, to sequential, etc. is always in a state of flux. Old ways are dropped in favor of new, some old techniques are rediscovered and reworked to become more, or less, appealing to a modern audience. This happens on a global scale, as their are so many variations on a single technique that their are infinite ways in which a piece of work can be created. Also, artists often spend their entire lives attempting to perfect their craft in order to have their own personal message reach as many people as possible.
The creation of a fake screenshot will forever be one thing: An attempt to recreate the look of gameplay by using premade graphics stapled against a premade background. Thats it. It will never grow beyond that, and will never change beyond that. Noone will spend their lives attempting to master it, noone will go on for decades attempting to perfect this craft, noone will ever be perplexed by what a fake's content says, both literally and figuratively, about its author. The image withing a fake screenshot will never be created by any technique other then by photoshop/mspaint/etc.
A fake will forever be a meager attempt to recreate the look of a video game, and thats it.

Heh, apparently you've never seen K1llKan0's work, it's practically made from scratch. His work is just like a painting. Now while I do agree with you to a certain degree, certain fake makers whom make stuff from scratch should be considered artists, and their works, art.
This copy and paste with minor edits, though, is not art. I do agree with that.
Basically I say this, the scratch editing portion of fakes is what I consider art. Nothing else about fakes are true art.
