Chill out -fake-
This is just pathetic. You guys hate his work but every time he makes a crap fake you give him three times more attention than everything else on this forum. You keep saying his work is bullocks and give good reasons why, and he just keeps making fakes that suck. It's gotten to the point where it seems like he enjoys pissing you guys off and you guys enjoy being pissed off at him.
If you were serious about teaching him a lesson in good fake making (because you've obviously tried constructive criticism countless times and it hasn't worked) you'd rate all his work 0/5 and then forget about it, so it can make it's way down to the bottom of the thread where no one will care but him and any others who think his work "kicks ass".
Now, because I wanna see this ridiculous thread die I shall stop adding to the problem and stop posting on it. As the rest of you should if you really didn't like his fakes.

Heh, apparently you've never seen K1llKan0's work, it's practically made from scratch. His work is just like a painting. Now while I do agree with you to a certain degree, certain fake makers whom make stuff from scratch should be considered artists, and their works, art.
This copy and paste with minor edits, though, is not art. I do agree with that.
Basically I say this, the scratch editing portion of fakes is what I consider art. Nothing else about fakes are true art.

This happens on a global scale, as their are so many variations on a single technique that their are infinite ways in which a piece of work can be created. Also, artists often spend their entire lives attempting to perfect their craft in order to have their own personal message reach as many people as possible.
The creation of a fake screenshot will forever be one thing: An attempt to recreate the look of gameplay by using premade graphics stapled against a premade background. Thats it. It will never grow beyond that, and will never change beyond that. Noone will spend their lives attempting to master it, noone will go on for decades attempting to perfect this craft, noone will ever be perplexed by what a fake's content says, both literally and figuratively, about its author. The image withing a fake screenshot will never be created by any technique other then by photoshop/mspaint/etc.
A fake will forever be a meager attempt to recreate the look of a video game, and thats it.

Fakes are not art. Edits are not art. 'Scratch-editting' or whatever is not art. Art, as a piece of work and not a genre, has to do less with how something was made, and more about how it exists within space. Design is a big part of it, as is the use of color, negative space, line value, etc.
You could claim a pixel art position, then, by saying that the edits are pixel art. However I've never seen a single MK edit that match the same style of the game from which it came, nor have I seen a single edit which had the same light source/shadows/etc that the other objects in the work have.
Actually, I'd really like to see one of the fake-guys do something completely custom. I mean start with NOTHING and make an entire MK-game-like screenshot, but with correct lighting and shading and everything. Maybe I'll make a competition with a cash prize or something...^_^
Or not. I'd really like to be able to branch fakes under a pixel-art blanket, but until complete, correctly lit, well defined and eye-pleasing 'scenes' are made I don't think any part of a fake could be considered art.

Jesus Christ. Why do I try with you people?
I said from scratch. Thus, starting from nothing you moron. Which is the exact same thing you WANT to see. Fuck.
Oh by the way, what's the difference from using a base (sprite) and using a model (person) to create a piece of artistic material?
Also, yes, pre-existing sprites are a shortcut... but don't some artist's use shortcuts in their work *cough*comic book artists*cough*. Hmmm.
In other news, I guess UR wants another fake picture contest with me. Joy...

Yea pretty much. It was difficult to portray the element of wind but I think I pulled it off.
Zentile, basically just the main MK foreground props were selectively chosen and placed.
Lastly, I've really been improving my techniques, as seen by more recent work, so I dont see where this talked about "plateau" comes in.

I've yet to see a single fake made completely from scratch. If you have one, please send me a link. You stated, at the end, that you consider the 'scratch editting' portion of fakes to be its only artistic merit. I was saying that, besides that being a contradiction of terms, that editting of any kind shouldn't be considered artistic. (Unless it serves as a way of getting across a message, as with Duchamp's mustache on the Mona Lisa, for example.)
The difference between using a base and a model is great. A base is a premade work that one makes changes to. A model is a source that you draw from. A model is only a reference and is not part of the finished work.
And most comic book artists use reference material, but no professionals make slight changes to pre-existing artwork and claim it as their own.

You really shouldn't speak for everyone. You don't know what everyone's opinion on the matter is, no matter how much you think you do. Besides, with an attitude like that you'll never become the mod you're so desperately trying to be.
Heh, since I don't have a link to K1llKan0s or NengoneN's stuff, I cannot provide you with said fake, Xel. Perhaps one day, I will make a totally original fake from nothing. My opinion still stands though...
Anyway, let us leave this thread to die...

Im pretty sure Poasty-Guy isnt trying to be a Mod at all. He's just fed up with alot of the bullshit that you guys cause in UR's thread. You guys do it all the time like you've got nothing better to do. All you guys to is bitch about the same thing, "OH COPY AND PASTE 1/5". I mean If you dont like his art, why bother even posting about it anymore? you guys know he doesnt listen to you but yet some of you still continue flood his thread and fuck it up. Some of you need to get a fucking hobby.
Sorry UR.
I dont really like this fake. The effects you did with Fujin are pretty decent. Alot of the effects you do, I usually like.

what are you even talking about
i'd make a horrrrrrible moderator.
all i'm saying is you guys are talking about a completely unrelated subject to what the thread actually is about, and that you should make a thread to discuss it?
if me wanting threads not to be derailed makes me "desperate to be a moderator" then fuck, sign me up!
edit: you faggot

Poasty-Guy wasn't talking about people's bitching about fakes. He was talking about me and MKRocket arguing about the artisitic integrity of fake creation in the middle of UltimateRyu's thread.
