Since when is Kitana oriental?
Regarding the picture, I've already posted on the second pic in another thread. I don't think that outfits suits her at all and IMO makes her look fat and goes overboard with the Chinese theme.
I like the first outfit better. I think it fits her more and there's a nice attential to detail.
Ever since Kitana is a japanese name. It's obvious that Midway ripped her from the nipponese mythology alongisde Raiden and Fujin. The fans, the nijaesque (since when did noichi dress like that?) looks and he had a eastern face revealed in her MK2 ending.
OK, I have to admit, that it's more like her ceremonial wardrobe rather than a costuke worth fighting in. And yes, she can look europic if Edenians are intended that way (what I highly doubt, considering their backgrounds and the japanese, and middle-eastern, Indian influence shown in conquest and on their character designs)

Maybe so...but she doesn't look oriental. Kitana unmasked in MK2 was Katalin Zamiar. Katalin Zamiar is not oriental. Nor is Becky Gable. The only time I would say Kitana looked even vaguely oriental was in MK Gold.
And while there is some oriental influence in Edenia, that doesn't mean they are. "Jade" is obviously an oriental name...but Jade is obviously not Chinese. Sindel yet again.

And meaning what exactly...?

Since Stan Lee's Psylocke (also a big woman, even if Japanese).
Alos, it's just a video game. An American gajin video game.

American and Gaijin mean the same thing.
Btw, OngBak: The word "Jap" can be used as a racial slur. Please avoid using it in your posts. Thanks.
Please go back to the original topic of the artwork being discussed.

Well, I do like both drawings Chrome, but I think the first one suits Kitana better. (The one orignally posted here). The sceond one, which u posted before, IMO is a bit over the top, and not Kitana-esque. It reminds me more of Li-Mei or Mileena.
As for Kitana being oriental, well although I have never relaly thought of her as anything other than Edenian, Kitana sounds oriental, as does her use of fans, so i actually think oriental is a fitting 'style/image' for Kitana.

Kitana is a valid japanese name, I can assure you on that.
Kitana or Kitaru means "to come, to arrive, to be due to, to be next, to be forthcoming," -well I guess from what my friends told me who are adept at nippon and it's romanji, Kitana as a name comes from Kitaru.
OK, short briefing about the meanings of MK names:
Raiden (rai-den) is the name of the demon thunder god of the japanese mythology. He is red haired and beats drums to create storms. Clearly ja-panese.
Fujin- meaning wind-god, a black skinned demon, who rides the winds. Japanese.
Hotaru- means firefly. Japanese, also a male/but more commonly a female name.
Reiko-clearly female name. Japanese, but I don't have a clue about it's meaning.
Li Mei- a reference to blossoms I think. Mei also means white. Chinese.
Hsu Hao- chinese, mongolian whichever you prefer.
Goro-means 5th son in japanese. Kintaro is also just a name.
Kenshi- means sword saint in japanese, Kenshin means sword heart.
Shujinko- in japanese it means protagonist.

Reiko is also the name of Japanese mythological hero who fought demonic spiders.
Reiko can also be a Finnish name which means "watchful, alert, guard."
