I was messing around the other day with ideas for fujin's costume. I wanted to update the costume idea I came up with for him a while ago and made this new rough sketch.

I might still change some things on him later on.

This colored one is the old concept.

The new one is darker with brown and black as the main colors. More like a realistic warrior and less like the in game Fujin.

I think it's different enough to be a new fighter, so I'm going to make him in 3D.

I might change his hair to black and give him real eyes If I want, to make him more my own character.

I think this pic I found of Fujin looks super badass.

http://mkk.mortalkombatonline.com/art/jilet25/fanart6.jpg
Looks pretty cool, but I like mine better wink

I want him to look more dark, not so bright.

I'm also trying to stay away from his original look. Like if John tobias had never drawn him, how would I make him.

This is the base mesh I'm working on now. I'll use it as a guide for when I start modeling his clothes.

Im really glad to see some more work from u man. But there are a couple of things that bother me,
1. theres too many things hanging from his waist in the coloured pic. Im not really fond of that yellow thing in particular
2. hes a little too built in both pics. Being the god of wind i would rather him be a little more light and agile looking, while keeping the same wisdom-ish look he has here
3. a bit too much armour in the sketches. Like i said, it looks too heavy for a god of wind. And the warrior-look about him reminds me too much of Hotaru.

What I LOVE is:
1. the Crown, very nice touch
2. the style of the cape and how its tied under his arms in the coloured shirless one
3. how uve made him look a little aged. makes him look wiser tongue
4. his skin colour, makes him look more individual and less like Raiden

These are all in my own opinion, take them or leave them. Im just fussing because uve always been so helpful in critiquing my fakes i did ages ago smile

Very good points,

I'm going to make the one in the black and white sketch, the one with more clothing. The yellow and most of the red will not be there. He's going to be mostly black, brown, metallic, and red (maybe)

I can make him skinnier, I was actually thinking about that also.

The stuff hanging I like, I think it makes his costume more interesting to look at, not so plain.

Right now he has 3 things hanging.

1= the side armor leather sheet on the left (This will not be yellow)
2= the symbol with the writing on it on the right which can be leather also, not metal. That's so he can move his leg around with no problem.
3= The under shirt hanging in the middle.

The only metal parts on his torso are the shoulder pads, and the square buckles on the straps across his upper body.

The thing with the dragon is leather.

Keep in mind that I'm starting with a sketch of fujin, but this could evolve in to a new character. Like what happened with Noob's alt costume in MKD which became Havik.

That looks awesome, dude.
How long did it take you to make the 3D model, I mean, the head.
Did you make it with 3D studio Max?
I got that program now, I'm practicing with it, pretty hard to use, lol.
Do you know a site where I can get some good tutorials for 3D studio Max?
Or maybe you could teach me some basics if you want. I was browsing through your site, I saw your turorial, "Modeling the serratus muscle and ribs". I allready know how to make the basic stair shape, but after that, it's getting kinda heavy, lol. But I guess, I shouldnt start with that, first I have to learn the basic.

Anyway, I love the outfit you made for Fujin, I really like the idea with the claw on the finger. I can't really complain about anything, it looks great.

3D Studio Max is really hard.

The Fujin model is awesome. 10/10
I find it's the easies to learn with video tutorials.

You can do a search for 3D studio Max video tutorials and see what you can find.

Once you know the basic tools, modeling is a snap, but then you need to know how to model in an effective way. Using edge loops and knowing your anatomy.

I can give you more tips if you get stuck.

I modeled the head in Maya, touched it up a little in Zbrush and modeled the body in 3D studio Max.

I connected the head to the body in 3DS. Max.

If you guys can get Zbrush2 get it. I downloaded it from a P2P program and It's awesome. Modeling in it is more like painting a black and white image instead of selecting moving points.

Nice, Fujin looks wise and battle hardened (close up sketch). But at the same time he looks like a regular mortal, not a powerful wind god. Since it's only in the conceptual stage, extra details can be added later on that will give him more flair. I remember your 3D max Motaro thread. So I was browsing your site and noticed you created a walking animation of him. It looks incredible. Hope you dont mind me showing it here. That alone would = instant Midway hire for me.

I remember that, that was a work of pure artistic genius (altho im a bit bias cause i loved motaro to begin with lol) I remember his face being REALLY detailed, too, it looked awesome.
I did a little more work on it tonight with Zbrush2.

Great work bleed. I didn't know you were an artist as well as a gameplay expert. Keep it coming.

Love 'em. Love 'em. Love 'em.
Always a pleasure looking at this work bleed. It kinda makes me sad that the MK team dont have the same 3D artistic sophistication you do.
Cant wait to see the progression of this piece, its looking mighty dandy so far.

I just love this pic:

Great job, man.
Thanks
Looking good so far. Can't wait to see it finished.
Started smoothing him out.

Still needs a ton of detail.

I went back to the low poly version and added more detail to the forearm guard.

I didn't like how it was looking when I smoothed it before. It got too lumpy.

You can see the details better now.

Anything new?
