This topic is for discussoin of future "official" MKO fan art contests. The animation contest that was held a month ago was quite a large success compared to what I had anticipated. I am assuming that there could be interest in other types of contests as well... so I would like to hear any suggestions anyone here may have.

Drawing contest: This went fairly well last time, but I was expecting much more. Any ideas on how to improve the next contest would be much appreciated.

Fakes contest: The first contest was a complete disaster with zero entries. That's quite saddening since we have a large number of creators here.

Animation contest: I do not plan to hold another contest of this type for at least a few months. However, if the interest is great enough in this category my resolve may waver.

Again, I would be delighted to hear anything you as a user have to offer. Please post your comments and ideas regarding this matter here.

You should make a contest based on what I said in my forum. Make kombatants with occupations. The occupations have meaning to who the character is. i.e. Raiden as an electrician

Maybe you can make a constest in which the Artist make a drawing of their Animals from their Animalities for example they can draw.

Sonya and next to it or somewhere a picture of an Eagle.

Liu Kang next to a Dragon...etc.

and they can make up new animals for the new characters from MK4-MKD.

sorry if this idea was done before. tongue

Why care about people if they're not bloody and on your carpet right now?

I think that a drawing contest would probably work if people have a good idea of what they were supposed to draw. That means you should narrow the concept down more.

Maybe you should request a specific fatality or move being done, with your own twists. Proably no color either, as some people can pull that off and some can't. Keep it black and white.

here's an idea on drawing contest:

To decide who the best artist is you can have them all draw the same subject, whether it is the same character or fighting scene, Then we, the members, compare the work and choose who illustrated it the best.
It could also be turned into a tournament. pair up people who will face off against eachother. The judges pick the subject and the best from the two advances.

You can be REALLY challenging and have artists pair up an existing character with someone of their choosing, romantically speaking. ;)
Could be an MK character (Bo Rai Cho and Li Mei), Original character (Hsu Hao and Donna), or someone supposedly from the character's past that's never really shown (Scorp and his wife [gasp, never would have thought of that!]), or even a non-MK character (Nitara and Spiderman!). o_o

Go the other way, pair them up with someone most along the lines of enemy and Draw them as best friends. Gasp!

You gasp too much tongue

Anyway. My advice to make people join the contests more, is to give out prizes. (Not sure if you already do confused)

Give like, dragon points.. 5 to the winner, 3 to runner up, and 1 for third place.

Yes... I have offered dragon points in each of my past contests. If one person had submitted a fake, they would have automatically been awarded seven dragon points.

Thanks for the ideas, but I would also like to hear from actual participants as well... as I cannot hold anything "official" without users that are interested in entering the contest(s).
I'd be interested in a contest for fake pics. I got a couple custom BGs ready for something special. I was curious as to the rule details, and stuff. If only I could draw on a computer as well as I do freehand, if only I COULD draw on a computer.

I would support the idea of a tournament-like contest instead of the typical "vote for the best out of all of these" contest. However, we had an actual problem with people actually voting last time. The viewers play a large role as well... and I would like all of you who replied here to vote in all contests that may be created in the future.

I allowed the first contest to be extremely open in hopes to draw a larger number of participants. If I narrow the subject down even more, perhaps even less entries would be received. Again, I want to hear from the artists themselves. Would you support the idea of contests being much more specific?

As a voter a Specific contest would be nice, but as an artist (stop laughing) I am very limited on what I can submit. So the less boundaries for me (Unless it's a subject I'm damn good at) the better.

But that's just my opinion; I could be wrong. ;)

This is the best suggestion yet. I would like to participate in a MK drawing contest, and I think this is the best way to do it.

Either that or keep it specific to one certain type of character, like only ninjas/females/cyber ninjas/bosses etc can be submitted depending on the theme of that contest. If its a cyber ninja contest, only cyber ninja pics can be entered...

My drawing skills (art skills) aren't very good so i probably wont. But if there was some sort of contest i would like to participate somehow in it. Whether it be judging or something else. But enter something no. sad.

I would definitely support a very specific drawing contest. I just don't have the time to independently develop a concept of my own; if one was assigned I could get right on it.

I think that more people should have entered the last time the drawing contest was held. I think breaking it up into categories would bring in more people. So here's my outline for a future Drawing contest.

>2 Categories<

- MK Characters
The regular submission of MK characters.

- MK Concept Characters
Something a bit innovative I think. With this one, artist can enter to draw someone elses idea for a character. Something like comissioning an artist to draw someone elses idea for a character. It would be best if the concept didn't include too much detail like costumes, styles, etc. Just a simple background such as alignment, a brief origin, allies, enimies, which romantic movies he/she likes to see, etc. will do. The artist would be in complete control of the visual aspect with this one.

Three seperate concepts can be chosen and artists can choose to pick one to interpret visualy. There can be three seperate winners based on people voting on which visual interpretation looks the best and effectfully brings out the creator's vision for said character.

I thin having artists being able to submit in both categories would be great for they could not only display their skills in drawing existing characters, but visualizing a character based off of someone elses concept.

Something like this would be dynamic and different from what we've seen before.

Wait i just thought of a good idea that will make every1 happy. Why not just simply call it an art kontest, and if u want to enter u can express urself anyways u want(Drawing,Fake,Animation, ect) And ppl vote for what they like the most (the style, the idea, ect). I think that would be fun cause this way everyone can enter with their own talents, which means alot of kontestants
