MK vs KI Koncept
Artist's Remarks: | |
Ed Boon's MK vs KI april fools jab may have been in good humor, but I've always wanted something like this to happen. So i just drew a quick koncept showing Jago and Scorpion!

I didn't even know he made a joke about that, but it is one of my dreams as well to see those two be in a clash together. ^^
Nice drawing, I like your style... but Scorpion? *sigh*
If you had drawn Jade and Orchid together, then I would give you a full 5 points for it. ;P

Scorpion's costume is terrible, but I still really dig the KI crossover idea

I actually rather like the Scorpion costume. His one eye sort of disappearing into shadow there looks weird though since you colored it all in skintone, makes it look like he's winking or doesn't have an eyeball.

Is that what that is? It doesn't come across very well. Now that I look closer, it looks like the mask over the mouth is blending away and you can see the skull's teeth on that side of the head too...but it's so hard to tell because his cheekbone is in the same place as the edge of the mask is, so it just looks like mask on both sides of his head.

Very cool.

I kinda like Scorpion's costume, but his mask... it sorta looks like a brath mask or something like that, anyways I like the picture itself, keep it up

It isn't hard to tell at all. It comes across perfectly, it's just a really, really bad look.

I think it is, I'm still not even convinced that there's no mask on the right side of his face, actually.
Hey Quancheetos, is the bottom of Scorp's face on the shadowy side his skull or his mask?

I too think he has the mask on both sides, but the left side of his face (right side of the picture) looks skinless to me (just skull). I don't think it's the shadow effects making his normal face look unusual. That's how I see it.
Quancheetos, GET OVER HERE!

I can understand why its so confusing between people concerning the mask, sorry about that
Because of the roughness of it, perception kinda plays a big role in what it looks like i guess. The intended effect was that there would be a slight glimpse of his skull head, just for stylistic purposes. Its not supposed to be a half and half thing in terms of his actual design. I went for a more armored ninja type of motif, just because i felt that hasn't been explored too much in terms of his designs. The armored parts how I imagine would be slightly bonelike in appearance just to keep up with the theme of him being undeadenateded and such. I think by coloring it, it made the mask effect look shittier than what I intended it to be, definitely.
The mask is a bit of a throwback to his MK4 look, which to this day, is one of my favorite design for him. I wanted to kinda do a kind of funny irony in that it imitates a skull's mouth, but it hides an actual skeletal set of teeth
As for Jago there isn't a lot I did for him in terms of redesigning, which is why i'd like to revisit redesigning him later. I remember doing an unfinished KI vs MK concept sketch a few months ago here: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5840/jagoscorp.png
and as you can see the scorpion is vastly different from what I've come up with here. The Jago however, I still kind of want to do it like that.
I'm definitely going to be doing more KI vs MK art, and I'd love if more people would take the chance at it too. So much potential!
