This is something that has always intrigued me. I don't have the camera or the people willing to do it so don't expect anything to happen. I just wanted to hear if you've ever had thoughts about it...

Sounds like fun at first thought but movies are expensive and a pain to make.

I'd imagine with this property you'd need a lot of cash to make it look proper as well. I mean the Legacy Web series had a sizable budget (compared to most independent productions) and it still had moments were it didn't look right. I'm mainly talking about the episodes that took place in Edinia here.

Mortal Kombat has a specific fantasy look to it that you can't get just by dressing up some buddies and shooting fight scenes on the street.

However if there were someone who was good with animation who wanted to make an MK-based film, I could see that working out much better.

It would be good, but as you said it would cost loads and the hassle of organising would be very stressful.

Do an animated movie.

Animation programs are not hard to use, adn good artists are not hard to come by.

It's what I hope to do once I finish filming the movie I'm doing now.

Animation's easier also because you just need voice actors.

Incidentally, I'm a voice actor.

This man is right.

If you're good at voices, you can play multiple characters in one film.

I am an actor myself, and I also love voice acting.

I would be down to voice any character in an animated MK movie if Bezo did it. grin

Actually, in all reality, I would do it no matter what.

To be honest, I've thought about it, but I'd much prefer to voice an MK character than to act as one just because I don't have any martial arts training. But I've always wanted to be involved in anything that's MK, whether it be write a story, or play as a character. grin

Animation sounds good. It's a lot more easier to do.

Thanks for all the advice and subtle hints about voice actors wink

Could anyone tell me some good animation programs used for short films?

Lets do an MKO media project where anyone who wants to contribute can. Whether its bits of dialogue, story ideas, voice acting, character designs or animation.

Everyone involved could advertise on their signature to spread the word around.

*just an idea*

As a story idea... What if we did the MK '11 story mode the way it should have been, taking into account the original canon and making changes based on that instead? This would mean things like Sub-Zero being the only Lin Kuei there, no Kung Lao trying to one-up Liu, only two/three cyborgs instead of the Lin Kuei automating everybody and their moms, Quan Chi & Shao Kahn aren't BFF...
I'm in the market for a wireless microphone, once I get something like that though, I can supply voices and story.

I'm glad to see that more and more people are getting interested in this idea. And I like Jerrod's idea about doing a reboot of MK '11!

So you just want to do MK1 story basically?

I'd be down with that. If someone could type up a rough script we could start handing it out and have various "story editors" tweek it with their own ideas.

I'm sure he's talking about the whole MK1-3 era.

If anyone was to make a new MK movie, I'd hope it was someone who had the drive to write an original script and actually take it somewhere new. Retelling MK11....'like it should have been' is a really awful idea, not meaning to be aggressive, but it just is. The reason you remake something is to make it new and different. Retelling the same story over again would have been pathetic. This is why the American film industry is the worst in the world, there are no new ideas.
Like Legacy was in it's original short film format, it was new and different and imaginative. Instead they just turned it into a mediocre retelling of the game.

Incidentally I could so play Mileena though

As far as I know MKO is full of writers and actors and animators. If all of us work together, I'm sure we could make a kick ass film.

The thing is, personally, I'm hesitant on making a fan film of already-existing content and writing a completely original story for it. If something like that were to be done, we'd basically exclude the fans of the series who know the detailed story that MK has in favour of altering everything just to make it original. Legacy did a pretty good job at making original stories, but it was mostly stuff that we already knew and hadn't seen anyway, and a lot of it had to be taken with a grain of salt when you compare it to the canon, or even the present day; examples of the former include Sektor and Cyrax taking on Hydro 2-on-1 and almost losing, and Scorpion and Sub-Zero episodes come to mind for the later. Sure, Raiden's entrance to Earthrealm at the asylum was cool, but at the same time, was really fucked up in relation to what we know about the character (he can fly and teleport, so why didn't he do that when first saw that he was going to be experiencing some trouble at the asylum).
Of course, if nobody wants to focus on making a reboot of the franchise, Shesgotclaws got me thinking, what if we do something smaller, like a story focusing only on a handful of characters instead of trying to cram everyone? It could be something focusing on the Special Forces, Red Dragon, Black Dragon, Lin Kuei, Shirai Ryu, White Lotus, Shao Kahn's Militia... Plenty of exclusive groups with at least some interesting stories to share outside of MK. We could even do a short based on things that happened in between rounds, like the characters hanging out instead of just focusing on the fighting and killing.
Edited with a more thorough response.
Also, if we'll do anything for this idea, considering most of us don't live in the same states (or even countries), it'll probably be infinitely easier to make an animation.

I think we should get real a live action movie wouldnt work it needs straight up dedication and people, and youd have to meet up, find sets, costumes waaaaay to much work

But im all for an animated one, i could see that getting somewhere i bet there are some pretty good animators, coders, and you would need the voices which isnt a big problem, and editors, music makers ect

i could see it working you need quite some time dedication and people down for it I would be

I can do character concepts, voices and give ideas thats about it im not a programmer or something like that

I say lets vote

lets vote for an animated mk movie or live action

we need to take some steps and this is a simple but important one
we gotta agree on something

so im serious about the vote

I vote animated

Speaking as someone who has acted in many films and been involved in the making of many more, a twenty minute live action MK film would cost at least twenty to thirty thousand dollars, if done well. Anyone going to front that kind of money on an amateur project? Didn't think so.
