I mean...Casilde

Okay, so like I said in the voting thread, I'm not trying to bash your opinion or even change it, as it is yours and you are completely entitled to it.
All I want to do is explain Casilde a little more in depth so as to clear up any confusion with Nitara that you, or anyone else may have.

Casilde is basically a spanish woman thats body has been taken over by a wendigo. The way I have it worked out is that the vampire race which now reside in Outworld are descendants of these Wendigo demons, which are actual mythilogical creatures, not something I made up.
In my intepretaion of this creature, they are basically the first vampires, they are more demonic, powerrful and deadly than an average vampire, aswell as slightly more wolflike, (hence her howling). For instance as opposed to having to bite a victim and drain the blood, they can summon it from someone without even touching them. They also absorb the blood through their skin, not just orally. (Something Skarlet had not been revealed to also do when i came up with the concept).

These Wendigo's became near extinct, from both dying out and being banished by an outworld tribe (enter the male character featured in Casildes ending, a tribesman that may appear in next years contest). The vampires of Nitara's time are basically weaker, less powerful descendants of the Wendigo's.

When Casilde's body was inhabited by the spirit of a wendigo she basically becomes and unwilling vampire. She's still essentially good and fights throughout the invasion to free her homeland, but the spirit is slowly corrupting her, and once Nitara learns of her existance she begins to hunt her so as to force a complete transformation of Casilde into a wendigo. Since the Wendigo's are so much more powerful, the hope is that she can help seperate Nitara's realm from Outworld. However this is only hinted at in the ending, and there is nothing to say that this actually plays out, she could very well be cleansed of this spirit by the tribesman. I also like to think of her and Nitara being great rivals, as Casilde wants nothing more than to get back to her human self.

Appearance wise, I can see how her primary may appear similar to Nitara for you, but it's all just colour schemes. She covers much more skin than Nitara and the style, in my opinion is very different. When I chose the colour scheme I was trying to evoke her spanish heritage, and the corset style is all stemming from her job as a dancer in a sleazy bar, (think of a Sucker Punch type club)
As for the alternate, I don't see Nitara in that at all, if anything its the result of an uncomfortable threeway between Sheeva, Motaro and Dracula.

bbfreak328, I really don't want to seem like I'm ranting at you or patronising you by breaking her story down so much. If anything I hope this will enlighten everyone to the full picture of Casilde's story. I have seen various users on her post extra info about their characters and I guess I've take your comment as a trigger for me doing the same.
I appreciate your opinion as your own, I just felt that the comment you made, implying that Casilde basically is just a cheap Nitara knock-off, was unfair. I don't want to dwell on it anymore, so no hard feelings. I just feel very protective of my character as I'm sure you do, and will defend her to the bitter end smile

Thanks to everyone that's been voting my girl through, it really does mean alot, some of these entries are amazing, and I'm truly suprised to see mine get this far. The creators of Nyctaro, Fu Lei and Merrick have all done a helluva job on some great characters, and battling against them has been both fun and nerve-wracking!

Just so you know, I don't think she resembles Nitarawink

Oh Spid-Adder, I missed you two.

@DandyBoy: Disclosure time... Casilde is one of my favourites in the contest. You have a strong theme, you utilize it impressively in both the physical traits of your character and the characters bio (demons escaping during the weakening of the realms and finding hosts; very original and believable).

One of my complaints was the use of the Wendigo mythos. I know you created your own version of the creature, but I felt you deviated too much from the source material. Wendigos are generally more masculine with their traits, are not winged, are beasts based on the urge to give into the craving of flesh (read, not blood) in Alogonquin legends, and are usually depicted as being emaciated or extremely werewolf like (ie, not sexy-time).

Obviously you wanted to avoid vampires and even succubi to distance yourself from Nitara. A cookie-cutter demon might've been an interesting choice since her feet are hooven and other than the claw (which could be demonic), the rest of her physical traits do match that concept. Or maybe you could research Spanish folk monsters to tie in with her background. Or you could just stick with the creature you've concocted but give it a different name. Even something like a Wendiga.

As for the idea that the Wendigo were the forebearers of the vampire mantle, it's interesting and does pull Nitara into the story but I think it muddles your character's background and the MK universe too much. If the Wendigo are the first vampires, why are they wolflike? How did the vampires descend from them? There's a lot of mythos there that needs to be filled in and I think it's just too much to throw on top of your character.

I'd say create a new character for next KaK or start from the beginning with Casilde. Keep the Spanish background and the possession but try pushing it in a direction away from Nitara and the urge for blood. Maybe tie it into the Native version of the Wendigo and have her crave flesh; you could also tie in the story with Nightwolf this way. Basically twist the premise you have now just enough to truly make it your own.

Those are my thoughts. In the end, Nitara and Casilde are completely different concepts and characters who happen share a lust for blood; that's all.
FanFic Time!...again

The shores of Shang Tsung's Island, dusk. Many masked guards box in a spectator area; some of the competitors are there while others have mysteriously vanished. Art Lean is also there for some reason.

Shang Tsung: The next match will be Yaray vs...

(Yaray walks stoically onto the sand. His pace is steady and his gait almost looks like a march. If anyone were to measure the distance between his nearly perfect footprints, they would find that every step was equal.)

Shang Tsung: Khibok!

(There is silence. No fighter emerges from the group of onlookers. Some of the mask guards nervously turn their anthromorphic headgear from side to side. Shang Tsung looks most displeased.)

Yaray: If this is intentional, then I admire my opponent's distaste for the rules.

Shang Tsung: No warrior disobeys the Emperor. Where is Khibok?!

(Silence still. One of the competitors looks back and sees a tree shaking in the jungle that meets the sand of the shore.)

Red Shirt Competitor: Um, Mr. Tsung? I believe I see someone up in that tree up there.

Shang Tsung: You question my perception? Guards, kill him.

(One of the mask guards impales the poor man with a naginata.)

Shang Tsung: There he is. In that tree. I saw him first! No one forget that.

(Rustling comes from a group of tropical looking trees by the sand. Tsung morphs into a dead competitor with teleportation powers and appears by the base of the tree. Yaray sits on the beach and begins to trace perfect squares in the sand.)

Shang Tsung: Who's up there? Those trees are the property of the Emperor. I will have your head for this insolence!

(Growling comes from the tree tops and a banana peel falls from the tree directly onto the ancient sorceror's head.)

Shang Tsung: It is the ape! The one with bad breath! Khibok, I demand that you come down this instant and face your opponent!

(Khibok howls with discontent. One of the trees sways left to right and more bananas fall.)

Shang Tsung: Those are the Royal Bananas! Only Shao Kahn and his daughters may eat those! You are toying with destruction ape!

(Incomprehensible chatter comes from the tree top. Khibok finally appears hanging upside down from the canopy with two bananas sticking out of his mouth like fangs.)

Shang Tsung: You stupid monkey! You're making a fool out of me and this tournament! Wait until I get my hands on you!

(Shang starts climbing the tree but Khibok throws a yellow mush in his face. The sorceror comically slides down the trunk. Khibok gives a huge grin showing his sharp and white teeth along with the two bananas still stuck in his gums.)

Shang Tsung: I'll get you, you lowlife mammal! Nobody makes a fool of the great Shang Tsung!

(Khibok swings from the branches farther into the forest as the sorceror takes chase. Benny Hill chase music plays as Tsung trips over stumps and bushes while Khibok keeps an easy lead overhead. The crowd, including mask guards, look at each other confused. Yaray is focused on the chessboard he's made in the sand.)

Yaray: That Khibok did a much better job at disrupting this 'Mortal Kombat' tournament than I ever could. Kudos, my gorilla friend, kudos.

----

Now that I have amused you with my tale, go vote (in an hour or now if you haven't voted in the current match-up).

I also want to say that even though I made light of everyone's favourite ape, I do respect Khibok's character and do think he'll put up a si-mean fight!

Best of luck to you, McHotcakes.

Tend to agree. It would've been instantly improved by just making it a wendingo in MK. Maybe you don't necessarily follow existing examples and accounts (as is often the case in MK), but something similar and straight forward would've been a bit more elegant.

That's right folks. In addition to the aforementioned prizes, the overall winner will receive a rendition of their character by the talented, prolific community legend, JAX007!

Special thanks to JAX007 for agreeing to return and give the winner what so many of you have been asking for. Hope you guys enjoy it (and here's your complimentary DPs for being a great sport and helping us out, JAX).

I should add some context here: I do think the prizes that MKO are offering are awesome, I just happen to have most of the them already. Plus, we've all already drooled at the prospect of having JAX007 immortalize our mortals (or immortals in some cases) and now it's come true!

Thank you for the generosity Crow and JAX and the all that run the MKO site. This has been a great contest so far.

Review for Acidslayer

Espio872 Wrote:
My review of Kevshi for Acidslayer

Bio: The bio, while interesting doesn't give us much on Kevshi, why did he go insane? I'm not sure if it was because Kenshi ocershadowed him or because of all the people he murdered, it would also help if you elaborated on what made Kevshi take a very different path from Kenshi, a little more elaboration would help get the reader more involved.

Fighting style: I think this is a section that could use more elaboration, when introducing a new style to your audience, it's important to give a detailed and extensive explanation and how tae Kwan do works with this style.

Costumes: The huge contrast to kenshi's look is welcomed as making characters distinct is very important, I'm picturing him as more of a character with an anime feel (which isn't a bad thing) though for Mortal Kombat I'm not sure how that translates.

Special moves: Some rather interesting specials like the bone prison and the acidic pentagram made good use of his dark powers, the Snake and skull summon were interesting and reminded me of Harry Potter, which I like. The Katana spin attack throws me off as it seems like a move Kenshi would have as aside from this move, there is no indication that Kevshi is a sword master as well as it wasn't mentioned in his fighting style or on his costume..

X-ray: It seems a bit bland in the sense that with him having such strange specials for his X-ray to not include some of his magical abilities, the chain being used as a weapon would be more fitting if it was apart of his special moves arsenal and I think this X-ray could of benefitted from the usage of Kevshi unique and prominent elements, like his dark magic.

Fatalities: i think they could have benefitted from use of his magic, the fatalities are decent, but I would really go a more mystical, dark magic route with them as it seems more befitting of the character.

Taunts: Suitable as is, not much to add on this matter.

Ending: I found this ending less than satisfying, it was too brief and left me wanting more. I know it's a minor detail, but I like for people to be specific when they discuss who they defeated, like "the boss". It could be Goro, Kintaro, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn etc.

Overall: My review might come off as too negative or nitpicky, but I can assure you I mean no harm by it, I just think Kevshi could use some fine tuning. You did some nice things with his specials and giving him a distinct look, but unfortunately I found some sections lacking in his story, ending, X-ray, and fighting style.

Kevshi has potential and with some more time and effort I think this could be a truly unique character, despite his relation to Kenshi, you were on the right track with his specials and look, just drop the Katana and tk and go from there and Kevshi can be great.

I hope my review was helpful.

My review of Serenity for Icegrenade

Reviews for Shiku and Kayatsu will be coming soon, I should have both done by Thrusday night.

Bio: I like Serenity's bio immensely, she develops from an objective observer to compassionate protector and I love how much development she received. Her motives are intriguing and the fact that the gods are so stubborn about not preventing even their own destruction fits well with Serenity and I could see a plot like that developing as the Elder Gods are a stubborn lot. The bio was well written and easy to follow.

Fighting Style: I love your attention to detail, I really got a feel for how Serenity plays and it appears she can take out and put away her ring blade, which is an interesting strategic set up and her vital point targeting is a unique and welcome addition to the fighting styles of MK. A nice elaboration on her playstyle.

Costumes: Superbly done, I adore her costume with the hood over her head, the black and gold color scheme looks very elegant and regal, befitting of a goddess, she looks mysterious and dangerous. Her other costume is also very lovely, I adore the sleeves she has, her dress and hairstyle are superb and it's nice to see the contrast between the two looks, solid character design for sure.

Special moves: a superb blend of offensive and defensive tools round out her moveset, her time abilities are utilized to great effect.

X-ray: Pretty unique and original X-ray that speaks to her abilities and plenty brutal to boot, I love the ring blade finish, nicely done.

Fatalities: Both lovely fatalities, I specifically enjoyed Ageless the best, but both were executed well and were unique and welcome fatalities that compliment Serenity's skill set and her gameplay.

Taunts: Serenity shines in this field as well with the most original and creative taunts I think I've seen in this tourney, her win pose is genius, I love it. Her intro is both funny and super cool to picture, superbly done. I enjoyed her mid-match taunts as well.

Ending: Shows Serenity growing and developing superbly from a cold observer to a caring ally of Earth. The ending leaves the door open for Serenity to return and gives a nice hint that Serenity' involvement will bring about further consquences, short and to the point, it accomplishes so much for your character in such a short amount of text, that type of efficiency is superb.

Overall Serenity is as solid as a rock, superb designs, gameplay, story, etc. Serenity has the whole package deal and is presented with nice detail and excecution.

Serenity has certainly earned her place in this tournament as a top 12 competitor and you have much to be proud of with your creation.

p.s. I just realized our match is coming up like tonight lol and I wanted to wish you the best of luck, but with the level of originality and intelligence you put into Serenity, you don't need it, take care and I hope my review was helpful, good lucksmile
