Inspired by both Altair in Assassin's Creed and Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid, I created this new look for Human Smoke in Mortal Kombat 2011.

Considering not much is actually known about Smoke's personality (something of which I always take into account when I'm designing an outfit) I decided to craft this look around his proffession and his powers. Being, ultimately, the most effective stealth killer in the Lin Kuei, I wanted his apppearance to represent something which we have not seen with other clan members before. Rather than try make him look like his MK2 or UMK3 look, I decided to make a more flowy, yet proffessional outfit that offers a whole new Ninja look.

First, is his new hood and his mask. Rather than having the typical ninja mask, I wanted Smoke's mask to be a new version of his old one. The hood offers that extra layer of protexction, as well as creating a more intimidating look for him. When his hood is down, his mask reflects his UMK3 look, though with my new design, it's supposed to reflect certain aspects of his cybernetic helmet (an homage to both looks). I decided to make his mask a ninja-esque gas mask, as it creates a more haunting, yet original look. I imagined that during his missions, the look of his mask and the deep, raspy breathing of his gas mask throughout the billowing clouds of smoke would inspire terror in all but the most savage of warriors.

His outfit is designed to look both traditional, yet practical. Having seen the movements of Altair in Assassin's Creed, I figured that the robed and free moving attire would suit a quick fighter like Smoke without weighing him down. The torso section of his outfit is made of a different fabric than his sleeves and hood, I originally thought Leather would offer more durability but began to think he'd look like a fetish ninja. He wears grey, fingerless gloves beneath his hems.

The shoulders, and trimmings of his robes and sleeves, are lined in silver, with a smoke motif design sewn on his loin cloth and sleeves in various shades of grey and silver to suit his skills. The belt is a silver belth with an ornamental buckle that clasps shut to hold his outfit together.

The trousers are made of loose fitting grey cotton to offer more space and comfort for kicking and jumping, whilst his leg armour is made of strong, glossy metal to enhance the strength of his kicks and to offer protection. His feet are the typical ninja shoe which offers him better mobility and balance, whilst still keeping in theme with his appearance.

All in all, I wanted to create a new, original design for the Human Smoke character that reflected his dark and grim storyline whilst being practical for combat and his powers.

What do you guys think? smile

I like the idea, like the mask and hood look nice, I do think the vest thing looks plain and there could be be more details and armor added. But its not a bad idea.
do you mind if I draw an adaption, concept sort of based on your idea?
I will post it here so you can get an idea how I invision it.
