THE STIPULATIONS:
1) Each character portrayed in the entry must be of MK origin. That is to
say that no original characters will be accepted.
2) Although original characters are prohibited, the background itself
can be original, or a simple 2D rendition of one of the 3D environments
from titles MK4-MK9.
3) Your victorious character must be performing a fatality of your own
creation on his or her opponent.
4) No animations or multi-frame entries will be accepted.
THE ENTRIES:
Entry #1
Entry #2
The voting period ends Thursday, January 10, at noon (Eastern time). I humbly ask that you take your time in analyzing each entry and vote for which is, in your opinion, the most impressive as a whole. That said, I bid each entrant good luck and may the best fake win!

Holy Moly. Fake pics are making a come-back! If this is my competition for the next FPK, I gotta brush up on my shit (not that I even had a chance at winning in the last one)!
Kitana/Mileena/Jade:
Holy crap! Now these are very simple yet impressive sprite edits. I love how you combined MK2 and MK3 elements for Jade and Kitana to make each of them unique. Jade is fat though - sure its the original sprite from the game - but next time edit it for the sake of improving it.
The blood editing is good except the puddles - very blurry and has no qualities of a liquid. The blood on Kitana's right fan looks a bit too blurry though, but the left fan is great. The blood from the arm on the ground on the left side looks a bit awkward.
Your background is simply amazing looking... BUT I am not a fan of the cut and pasting from Google Images. The asian building from MK1 on the left looks out of place, though the one far in the distance fits in perfectly. I just wish you would have used more MK-style in your background rather than what you found on the internet. It all matches very well together, don't get me wrong. But it doesn't go well with MK's props. If the Masked Guard is supposed to be a statue like Motaro and Goro, why are his eyes glowing red?
Quan Chi:
Hot-damn, I've always wanted to see Chi's living weapon implemented in the game, and here it is in a fake. The pose looks completely customized, not from any existing sprite; and believe me, I know how hard that is. Which brings me to my next point: it unfortunately looks "cartoony." I am no better at custom sprites so what more bitching can I do?
The fatality itself is interesting. I guess the bees are doing more than just stinging Cage. Flesh eating bees from the Netherrealm I suppose. Believable. The blood is simple and effective. No over-kill with the gore.
The background... ugh... another MKMSZ arena to grace us on this forum. I like the extra addition of the reflection on the floor, just like in MKM:SZ. Only complaint is the floor is way too blurry (I guess it's the game's fault - however, with some clever editing that could have been fixed) but the rest of the stage is done well. I like that it's not a straight rip from the game, there was actually some changes done to the walls.
Life bars are great, just like in MKDA. A bit weird to see MK2011 mugshots though.
Entry 1 get's my vote. Because of the cool fatality that reminds me of my Kitana & Jade vs Mileena animation (if this is where you drew your inspiration from, then I must say I am flattered and glad people are actually viewing the Fakes Portal Website) ... AND because it's just looks more "believable" as a fake. Although the background isn't all yours, it's the most original and unique of the two.

Wow, these are two superb fakes!
My vote goes to fake #2
I like the fatality idea better, and the sprite editing is exceptional on both Quan Chi and Cage's tattered body. As much as I like the background in entry #1, the fatality and sprite editing idea isn't quite up to par with its competitor, so entry #2 works best as an "overall" fake.
Well done to both of you guys.

WOW! Where were these fakes during the last fake kontest?
Mileena vs Kitana & Jade fake has one of the best backgrounds I've seen in a while.
the fatality is very gruesome. Good job making the girls not look like each other by mixing and matching outfits. a lot better than the standard color swap.
Quan Chi's fatality... Niiiice. This is friggin bad ass. Awesome sprite editing, very original idea. Boring background. BUT you get my vote!
That's supposed to be the head of drahmin isn't it? Cuz he's spitting bees at cage... I recognize it from Quan Chi's MKDA concept art. Very obvious unless you were living under a rock during Deadly Alliance, LOL!

Fake #2 gets my vote. I love seeing rumors and scrapped concepts come to life. Quan Chi and his living staff are very well implemented here. Great attention to detail and follow through with the developer's blueprint.
Fake #1: Beautiful background, bland fatality. There's no indication of what actions were taken by Kitana/Jade other than the standing pole and bloody fans. Overall it's a worthy entry but just doesn't have that wow factor.

Entry 1 has my favourite character in it, that being Jade (obviously), but the overall fake looks boring and uninspired. The background, the sprites and the fatality itself all look rushed. And it is missing the healthbars which would do alot for the picture.
Entry 2 has a cool original sprite of Quan Chi doing a fatality inspired from his MKDA concept art, the background looks clean and simple and it overall looks alot more complete than Entry 1.
So my vote goes to Entry 2.

When I first looked at this thread and saw the two fakes, my impression was that fake #1 was the better one. However, as I kept looking again and again, analyzing the fakes closer and closer, I kept finding more and more things I didn't like about either one, but especially fake #1. Anyway, here’s a rundown:
Fake #1
The background looks pretty good at a glance, but after analyzing it’s not as good as it could be.
The fatality is okay, kind of boring and very stoic though.
The minimal sprite editing is effective to reduce costume redundancy, but these edits are better for MUGEN games, not fakes of this nature. Some additional sprite editing would have been nice to see.
The blood and gore effects look okay at a glance, but are lackluster in terms of detail and realism after analysis.
Fake #2
Background is okay, little boring, but effective for the fake. Doesn't add, but also doesn't subtract from the fake. I do like the reflections off the glossy floor.
The fatality is pretty cool actually in premise. I would have like to see a little more action though.
The sprite editing is what makes me like this fake more. While it does at least seem to borrow from existing content, it may not but some details seem different than standard editing. Still, it’s better than fake #1’s editing. The sprites could use some additional work in terms of lighting, especially the Quan Chi sprite. The lighting and shading seem inconsistent on different parts of the sprite.
What blood effects and such that are featured are presented well, not perfect or great, but pretty well. The blood needs more density and vibrancy to stand out though.
So, in all, both fakes are okay, solid... but the edge and my vote will go to fake #2.

I vote #1.
After day three, the votes received are as follows:
Entry #1: 4
Entry #2: 5
I honestly expected a few more votes at this point in time seeing as how there are still quite a few users that frequent this area of the site who have yet to cast their votes (Riyakou, Icebaby, and GoobieDoob, just to name a few). I'm hoping that preferential bias toward the host isn't playing a role in their decision to ignore this contest. If not, then I look forward to their participation. That said, I humbly appreciate the participation of the voters who have provided their votes.
Edit: Forgot that Jaded-Raven voted. Dang. Epicfail, imo.

Haha, don't worry about it. :P
I don't know much about making fakes, have only dabbled in making some animations, which is why I haven't been all that active in the fakes department. I do like some of you guys' work though and I can always throw in a vote and an opinion. ^^

Trust me when I say that I appreciate your participation in the fake picture industry, even if your only (current) contribution is the occasional critique. As one of the few artists dedicated to restoring notoriety to this unique medium, I can say that, at present, no one's involvement is considered insignificant. Moreover, I am more than willing to offer advice to those who are so inclined to request it (including you, Jaded-Raven, though that may come as somewhat of a surprise

Knowing that I am soft-hearted and that you are not which has caused us to clash in the past, I will have to decline, though I appreciate the offer. ;P
I'm glad I can contribute at least a bit. ^^

Both are good, but I like Entry 2 much better with regards to character editing and the reference to an old DA concept sketch. Though the background doesn't look edited/original (Quan Chi's Fortress in MKM), I find Entry 1's background pretty generic, with the random statues and guard thrown in not helping.

Fake 1: Great job, but it's a bit boring. Some action would've make this fake better.
Fake 2: This is VERY nice. Not perfect, but the concept, editing, execution is bad ass. MaxDam is this you? Lol
My vote: Fake 2.

Wow that's the best quality image of that concept I've seen yet.
