I know Illusion is holding one at the moment but it's being a while since we haven't got any serious contest. The last one was hosted by MC4 like months ago or over a year ago.
After illusion's contest, I was wondering if you guys; Acj or Crow could host a true contest with detailed guidelines and rules. It doesn't have to be about fakes, it could be drawnigs, 3d arts,... your decision.

I think it should be a "themed" contest... No pre-prep stuff... I could pull out some of my other way cool stuff and post that, but it's not fair to those that have to make a piece on the fly...

So... Pic a topic... exe... Your version of the Dragon king... Design a new background... Draw your favorit fighter in his winning pose... etc...

Also, 3d art, 2d fakes, paintings, and black and white drawings should all be seperate categories... Takes a lot more time to make a good drawing than a great 2d fake. I don't know how long it takes to make 3d art... Paintings take even more time... Of course there would be one overall best from all the categories put together but... They should still be seperate...

BTW!!! I don't want you all to think that I look down on 2d or 3d art because of what I said... I respect all forms of art and I'm sometimes very impressed by some of the 2ds and 3ds I see around here...

That's all I have to say about that...

I'd be for it depending on the theme, and if I actually stood a chance ;p

As for categories, it doesn't really matter, as time spent in any medium shows in the final product. It can take me 22 hours to paint something in Photoshop, and it be one of my best, or I can spend 15 minutes on it and it comes out mediochre; same goes for 3d programs, proportionally anyway, and even for Fakes. Although with Fakes and Sprite edits half the artistic creativity is gone because the characters are already drawn for you. :P In which case I'd vote for Sprites and Drawn categories.

yeah, i wouldn't mind entering, after i hear what the guide lines are,

pencil art would allow the most competiters (sp) to join, unlick 3d art not very many people know what to do that or have the programs.

pencil would probly be the best route. have prizes for different catagories.

Hmmm... very interesting. I'd like to get something like this organized, in my opinion, it would be good for the art community here.

With Mobster4Christ's FPK's, the art was limited to fakes. We still have a lot of great fake pic artists around, but the collection of hand drawers we have presently is one of the most talented groups of artists throughout this sites history.

Anyhow, with that being said, I think the idea to have two categories would be the most appropriate way to approach this. I would like everyone that is here to have the chance to participate. As for digital arts like renders and such, I know we have some very talented people in those fields here at this site. I'm not sure there would be enough participants in that category to form a third group. I could be wrong, so if you do want to see a voting category for each group (like the categories on the stats page), please post that now.

The next subject would be what the guidelines are. I noticed Spartikiss' idea, do any others agree with that? If not, post how strict you think the guidelines need to be. As I said, I would like to see as many participants as possible, and the difficulty of the guidelines will no doubt influence that number.

I'm not announcing anything official, yet. I simply wanted to show my interest in this subject. I will return to this thread once I have discussed some things, until then, post your ideas and thoughts.

Glad to hear you are all interested in a Art contest. I think the guidelines should be strick simply because all the artist should have the exacly same subject and we get to vote for the one who did a better job. For Example:

-Make a drawing of Shang Tsung's MKII Soul Steal (black and white). All contestant will draw their own version of it.

I gave some thoughts about a prize for the contestants: Dragon Points! smile
Depending on how many there will be, I think it would be nice for the winners:

1st: 5 Dragons points
2nd: 3 Dragons points
3rd: 1 Dragon point

I've sent ~Crow~ a PM about this to discuss it, but I want to know Acj's take on this as it's his field of work really, and I want him to have Final Say on it. smile

Sounds fun though, and I might be interested in participating even.

Dragon points as well as another award could be devised and would work I think. We'll get back to you folks on this.
It particularly is a good idea as it's not *just* fakes, or *just* hand drawn work, but everything.

But one thing is for certain...if we held this and discovered multiple accounts voting via any means, all votes involved in the cheating would be disqualified.

This would be a FAIR contest, no lame ass voting on your own work from several accounts!

You people know who you are that are guilty of doing it, every vote with account tag is recorded in standard forum Art votes as it is. wink

Just wanted to let everyone know I haven't forgot about this. Acj, Jonin, and myself have all discussed this, and I can assure you this contest will take place. Since Marcel currently has a contest ongoing, we are waiting until that is complete. Some time after that, I will announce this contest, the guidelines, and such.
Well, this is good news.

If there's one thing I've never seen though, it would be an official animation contest, on any site. Any chance that this could come to life as well?

I think it would be great aswell. I think it will be nice to have 3 or 4 contest per year as long as people are willing and motivated.
I'd like to thank you all for suporting this idea.smile

Well, this would depend on the number of people who would enter the contest. We have plenty of drawers here, and fake pic artists as well. Animations are a bit less seen, we would want to see a good number of participants in these contests. I would consider holding such a contest at some point, but I would need the assurance enough people would compete.

This is wonderful. I can't remember if this site has ever done a contest for anything that didn't include fakes. I seem to remember one a long time ago but that would be at least a year.

My ideas: in no particular order, just my opinion

1. No fakes-They've had enough , that of course doesn't include Max.

2. 1 contest, any style-everyone should compete together regardless of output. Anime, chibi, realism, abstract etc.

3. Any medium-Sketch, Paint, Colored, Comp. colored, 3D:an actual 3D render, animation. The only problem I see with this is people who go gah-gah over something just because it's CGI, or animated overlooking a superior sketch. This of course would give credence to using categories as mentioned previously. Could change #2.

4. Prize-Can you guys award more than 5 dragon points, perhaps make it 10? For me though, a prize isn't even necessary but nice.

5. Time-At least a month, maybe more depending on the response. I won't take a month to create a 3D render, I'll take months. Note how long I've been working on Kintaro. Course I'm not going to enter anything 3D.

6. Rules-I'd prefer to keep it looser. Instead of Max's previous example, "MK2 Shang-soul steal" how about just a fatality. Given the first method I don't think well that way and may never get a good idea. The second, I've already got 3 in the hopper I'm cooking up.

Like I said, these are my ideas.

Keep it going, this could be great.

I still say we should use more than one Kat... And a fixed but not entirely limiting theme...

Kuz... um... yeah... BTW... Why do I never get Dragon points?

Er... Never mind... I probably won't be able to play in this kontest kuz... I have a few many things on my plates at the moment... With all the Poon and stuff on the pc- I mean... All the Home work and stuff...

Anyway... It keeps us informed and gives us more coins...

I'v been here too long to still be a mortal... (I should post more often...)

Good luck to all who participate...

lol Dragon points aren't given for the amount of post. The mods give you dragon points if you make good and intelligent post. That depends on you. Check some other threads with dragons points on it.

I like some of the ideas about the theme I see here, I want the theme itself to be something that invites everyone to participate. A theme that is too strict may limit the competition; that isn't to say I want it to be too relaxed either. I am looking to find that middle ground, and perhaps make everyone happy. A difficult task indeed, but I'd like to get as close to this goal as possible. I have already selected my choice for theme, Jonin and Acj both thought it was a nice selection.

As for prizes, we've pretty much already got things figured out. I don't want to reveal it yet, so I will wait to show you all in the official thread that will be created and stickied. I will tell you that there will be awards for not only first place, but for second and third as well.

In case any of you are wondering, we still plan to have both categories (drawings & fakes) in this contest. We wish to appease all the members of the art community, and holding only one or the other wouldn't quite be fair. Anyhow, I hope to see you all entering in the contest in perhaps a week or so.

Um... Duh!

No really, DUH!!!

j/k

I really did know that, you know... I was just saying... I don't get dragon points even when I post something useful... I should post whore some in the General Disc, so that I can get noticed...

Any way... Sounds good Crow... I STILL say we should have two overall best; a 'Grand Champion' and 'Runner up.'

We can then also have the diff categories like... 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for drawings; a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for fakes; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for paintings; a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for 3d renders; etc...

I'm gonna change my sig to say "I should be a mod"

Er... Cuz I don't have enough things to waste time on anyway... So uh... Anyone up for mountain climbing this weekend? Er... Never mind... (No good rocks to climb...)

So ... Uh... How 'bout them cowboys...

Er... OK REALLY!!!

I've had a long day and need to stop trying to stay up... 'night all!!!

Again, good luck to all the kontestants...

Oh yeah... You see? Wasn't this post useful? At least 2 dragon points? How many more do I need to stop being a mortal... ?
