Ancient Mortal Kombat vs nowadays Mortal Kombat

Greetings people.
in this discussion, i'll show an idea that probably is just mine, but i would like to show it at all. i don't know if any of you noticed, but Mortal Kombat has two diferent styles. one is the one that we see in the first two games, in mk conquest tv series, and in most of deception's new characters. this style is ancient, asian and mystical, giving the idea of an eternal tournament that as to do with magic and the battle of good and evil. the other style is shown in mk annihilation (sorry for speaking about that shit), in the games since mk3, wich is a more actual style, with robots, characters that have cybernetic implants (kano, kabal..etc), a cop (stryker), jax's metal arms, the urban stages that were introduced in mk3.. etc.. personnally i love the mystical style, i have grown loving mk conquest much more than the movies, that ancient, magical look gives MK its own personality.. probably you're reading this and thinking i'm crazy, but the truth is that mk3 introduced elements that i don't really like.. maybe that's why i don't like characters like kano, sektor, cyrax, robot smoke, kabal, jax, sonya, cage, kurtis stryker (i hate that fucker). and i love shang tsung, quan chi, kung lao, bo'rai cho, baraka, kitana, sub zero, frost, scorpion, reptile.. etc.. and, how is it possible that the gods have chosen a simple policeman (stryker), that can not fight at all(he just cheats using guns and grenades), to represent the earth in a sacred tournament??? how is a cop putted in the same level of noble Shaolin Monks, ninjas, sorcerers.. etc???.. which mk style do you like the most? and wich one would you like to see in future games? (PLEASE ANCIENT!!)

hmmm....too ancient it's a very bad idea.
You can see A Too ancient character style in Soul Calibur 3 and that game is a shit.
I mean we need some "americanized characters" like Johnny cage or Siro for Mk Conquest.
We need a less serious characters than others,otherwise all characters looks the same.
In first mk and mk2 this thing ancient and new were balanced.
i think that the best thing is a balnce between the two things.
Otherwise we''l have shitty games.

yes lastfighter, i'm not saying not to have balance, i am just saying that MK is changing.. i would love to see some more misticysm in future games, because that ancient style to me is part of the true essence of Mortal Kombat. if it goes away, mk will be turned into a Tekken style clone (not fighting system cloning, but characters and stages style cloning), it will be a beat'm up as all the others..

storyline,this is the problem.
make balance between "misticism" and "sense of houmor" is easy to make during the game,but very hard to tie in with the storyline.
For me mk is good in this way.
we have the return of shinnok and onaga,two of the most powerful enemies in mk franchise,and until now all the bios posted so far by midway are in the right direction.
The armageddon thing should bring order and clear the way for more misticism.
as we say without exagerate,but i ultimately agree with you:more misticism.
Mk Conquest was very good under this pot of view,and the faction "war" was pure fantasy.òand a we know mk is based on :horror,martial arts and fantasy.the last component seems to be forgotten by Midway...

yeah, midway seems to be changing mortal kombat into unknown fields.. let's just hope that future games do not turn MK into a beat'm up equal to all the others. because let's face it: MK has the best and probably more extensive storyline of all beat'm ups, MK is unique, different from all the others. you don't get to see an asian little girl (the stereotype of chun li, xiauyu, or whatever that tekken girl is called, a lot of street fighter girl characters, etc) fighting in Mortal Kombat. MK has a much deeper, serious, and sometimes Darker ambient, and story that all the other beat'm ups.
if midway makes MK equal to all the other beat'm ups, MK will die... =(((((((((

well, but Li Mei isn't always laughing and screaming like a child when she wins a match, nor before begining one. she has a serious atitude. now, one of the things i hate the most, is the ridilularity of choosing a character like zangief (fucking muscle mountain character in street fighter), and be defeated by a little girl, childish and ridiculous that could never enter a martial arts contest and survive against zangief, and be defeated by that girl many times.. it is just stupid. but most of the games have that stereotyped asian girl characters..

it's a style difference:Street Fighter uses a Manga/japanese style,go straight to the funninest thing to make laugh(for example very very soft pornography,unrealism during fights,special moves,super-deformed characters,etc).
Mk uses a more ealistic and americanized style.
So even tough is a little stereotypal,Li Mei is a serious character,instead of Chun Li (but Chun Li is still Cool,lol).

sure it is a different style! its what i've been saying. nowadays every beat'm up uses anime style (tekken, dead or alive, soul calibur, street fighter, king of fighters, fatal fury..), i guess the only one that does not use it is Virtua Fighter. it is japanese, but it's a more realistic and serious game than tekken for example (i used tekken as example because of the VF vs Tekken controversy that have grown over the years..). MK has its own style, if midway changes it in any way, it will be a dissaster
