Unlike most beat-em-ups like Street Fighter, Tekken and Dead or Alive, the Mortal Kombat series has a well thought out and interesting plot. Would anyone besides myself like to see some Mortal kombat novels released? Or even comics (there used to be a comic series didn't there?)

Comics are still being made even today and yes I would love MK novels but the MK world probably would not go for it. Plus most teens other than myself and you do not read novels so

Hell I read more than I watch television, yes I would like novels, but I don't know how you can make an interesting novel out of a game like this.

Actually, there have been plenty of comics and 2 novels based on the first 2 films.

For more information on the novels you can go here:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/ref=br_ss_hs/002-7545551-5848852?platform=gurupa&url;=index%3Dstripbooks%3Arelevance-above&field-keywords;=Mortal+Kombat&Go.x;=9&Go.y;=11

The 2 are completely different from the films. Many things were changed, more dialogue, etc. I have never read them but I would love to someday. It would be great to see some more/new Mk novels.

As for the comics, the Deception ones were canceled, so no MK comics are being made at the moment. But back in 1993+ Malibu published a large serious of Mk comics, very very cool art and text. It was worth every $. They were amazing:

Mortal Kombat Blood and Thunder: 1-6 comics
Mortal Kombat Goro, Prince of Pain: 1-3 comics
Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition: Comic 1 of 1 (the conclusion of the blood and thunder series)
Mortal Kombat Blood and Thunder: 0 (special editions)
Mortal Kombat Special Forces: 1-2 comics.

Mortal Kombat Battlewave: 1-6 comics
Mortal Kombat Rayden and Kano: 1-3 comics
Mortal Kombat: Kung Lao
Mortal Kombat: Kitana and Mileena
Mortal Kombat: Baraka
Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition: Issue 1 of 1 (the conclusion of the Battlewave series)

Plus the first 3 official Mk comics:

Mk1: Published in 1992, you can still see the *order* screen in the Mk1 game.
Mk2: Published when Mk2 was also released.
Mk4: Came with the PC Mk4 version as a special bonus. Very cool.

I think thats all, I hope it helps.

Thanks for the info Queve. The books sound decent enough, but I was hoping for more background stuff rather than novelizations of the movies. The comics sound good though. I imagine they're quite rare now?

There has been at least one Mortal Kombat novel that WASN'T movie related. I remember someone telling me about, and how it explored Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero quite deeply. That's all I recall though.

ya I have that novel was really good first book I have ever read that when i finished I started reading it again read the book twice in about 3 week time period. It was very long too

I also really wish someone would do a new comic, I have the malibu ones and they were okay but they swayed away too much from the tournament. In these kind of comics you have to either be building up to the tournament, have the actual tournament of show what is going on in between them . the Malibu comics basically started the tournament and then didnt finish it and totally forgot about it. THey were okay art was great but I was disapointed in the direction the book was taking

again I would love to see a new book done by someone like Devils Due Publishing

I would love to see some novels based off of MK. I have the one that was supposely pre-tournament in story and I believe loosely based off of the 1st game only since there were no MK2 or later characters in it (or none that I can remember). Not the best read, sorta on par with decent fanfiction but not the worse. I believe it was just titled Mortal Kombat, but not sure since I have to dig the book out from the bookshelf of no return. *insert creaking sound as overloaded bookself leans closer to desk*

Unfortunately, in order for a Mortal Kombat novel to be written and sold, the author would need to have permission of Midway. I don't think Midway is just going to give it away writing rights for free nor do I think they have much interest of letting anyone buy/rent the rights either after what happened during MK4 times. (crappy MK:SF, crappy movie, you get the point) They will not want to take the chance again of someone totally messing things up just when Mortal Kombat is once again popular and a money maker. The closest thing to a MK novel your going to find now is a few stories on fanfiction and a few Mortal Kombat sites that carry fanfiction.

As for the rumor that Mortal Kombat fans don't like to read that's not completely true. When not playing video games, watching anime I read...alot. I even write on occassion (amateur but I have it posted and get a few good reviews). Mortal Kombat has a wide ranging audience that can surprise some people. From kids to people in their 50's (I knew a college professor who was unashamed to show he could beat almost anyone at the student union building on MK1 playing as Scorpion...funny thing he had long gray hair he kept tied back. I'm not joking and this was pre-movie.)
