OPENING

Presented by Raiden giving some background of the recent events. Then we cut to the Netherrealm and we see demons raiding a tomb. It is filled with a number of tortured souls and they pull out the soul of Shang Tsung who has gone insane and is more demonic from being in Hell. They chain him and drag him to the sanctuary of Quan-Chi and he returns him his sanity and human form. Shang Tsung immediately attacks but Quan-Chi overpowers him and tells him of a plan...

Next, Earth, CHINA

At the Temple of Light a tournament is being held and Liu Kang is the host. Raiden is the honorable guest but he hasn't arrived yet. Arriving on a boat Kung Lao appears and he is not impressed. We learn of his and Kang's past feuds: one running away from the temple and the other with an obsession. They nearly get into a fight but then Bo Rai' Cho, who helped train them both, breaks it up and tells them to relax. Kung Lao leaves to watch the explore the temples.

Next, Outworld

Members of the OIA (Outerworld Investigation Agency) have been captured by Centaurs and Nomads and taken to a camp and put in cages. Jax leads his men into the fight and guns blaze and a riot brakes out between the Nomads and Centaurs. Jax fails to rescue his friend from being scewered by a Nomad but he manages to finish off the creep.

On the other side of Outworld Sonya Blade and a group of OIA troops are chasing down Reptile who is leading them through the wastelands. Sonya is able to catch him and knocks him out and radios to Jax she has captured him. But someone, a shadow, is watching in the darkness.

Next, Edenia

War is occurring in Edenia as Kitana and Sindel fight against the remains of Shao Kahn's armies in a vicious battle. Kintaro is leading it and he manages to break into the castle. Kitana and him fight in a vicious battle but before he can kill her Sindel uses her powers to knock him through a window and down into a mote. The enemies scatter and Sindel tells Kitana that she must return to Earth and get assistance from Raiden. Something is not right in the realms.

Next, Earth, HONG KONG

Mavado and Hsu Hao have captured Jarek the last of the Black Dragons and have strapped a bomb to him. The Special Forces come in ready to fight being led by Kenshi, an elite swordsman, and they plan to rescue Jarek for questioning but someone else has different plans. Mavado and Hsu Hao escape but before Kenshi can save Jarek a masked warrior, Kabal, rushes in cutting his throat and he attacks Kenshi with lightning speed. The fight is short because the bomb goes off and both fall under the water of the docks. Kenshi radios to headquarters and a helicopter comes.

Next, Earth, CHINA

At the Lin Kuei fortress we see Sub-Zero fighting against his former comrades. He is attacked by Sektor and a fierce fight ensues until Sub=Zero screws up his programs and he starts firing random missiles. The place is destroyed but Sub-Zero resurfaces from the ruins. He is greeted by the applause of Quan-Chi who has been watching him. Quan-Chi tells Sub-Zero he wants him to join his band of warriors but when they shake hands Sub-Zero tries to freeze him, knowing that he had tricked his brother in the past. But Quan-Chi is protected by a mysterious amulet and he blasts him back with a skull fireball. He leaves Sub-Zero to die but the ice ninja is tougher than that.

Next, Heavens

Raiden is talking with his fellow Elder Gods on Quan-Chi's arrival on earth. He wants to defeat him but the Elder Gods say that it is none of his concern since he is no longer the protector of the planet. Raiden pleads with them and they say that he may give up his status as an Elder God to fight but it must be done in a Mortal Komabt tournament and since Shang Tsung defied the rules of the last one it will be represented as the true tenth tournament. Raiden sets out to recruit warriors from Earth but the sorcerers are already a step ahead of him...

Next, Outworld

Quan-Chi and Shang Tsung are in the black tower. They have started recruiting warriors including Baraka, Kintaro and Reiko. Tanya enters the room wanting to join them saying she has already taken out the resistance led by a certain Li Mei. She has inside information on Kitana and says she has gone to find Liu Kang. Quan-Chi sends Baraka to eliminate her before she can reach them and the others set out to Edenia.

Next, Earth, WASHINGTON

Reptile is going insane inside of the prison cell of the OIA base. Sonya and Jax are trying to get information out of him for his genocidal acts but he refuses to speak. They leave him and he starts to hear voices. They are of a woman. She reminds him what he has to do. When Sonya comes back in she sees that Reptile is gone but he has really just turned invisible and attacks. He escapes by a window and flees. Kenshi goes to hunt him down and Sonya and Jax recieve a vision from Raiden. It is to meet them at the Temple of Light.

Next, Temple of Light

Liu Kang is shocked to hear that Shang Tsung has returned and Raiden tries to calm him down when Kitana enters. She wants him to come to Edenia to help her and her mother. Liu Kang and Kitana go for a talk along the paths and discuss their new lives. They are about to kiss when Baraka enters and attacks. He severly wounds Liu Kang and he is about to finish off Kitana when Raiden uses a lightning bolt to hurl him into a river. Raiden knows now that they are in danger and there is no more time to stall. Kung Lao has been listening and now he believes that the legends were true of Outworld and says he wants to go. Bo Rai' Cho agrees to go to since he is from Outworld anf he knows his way around. Raiden uses the last of his Elder powers and he teleports himself, Liu Kang, Kitana, Kung Lao, Bo Rai' Cho and Sonya and Jax, who are still in America, to Outworld.

Next, Outworld

After arriving the warriors search for the Black Tower. Raiden says he must find other warriors to fight with them and returns to the Heavens while the Earth warriors make their way through the wastelands, still being watched by a shadow...

Next, Edenia

Quan-Chi sits on Sindel's throne as Shang Tsung taunts her as she lies dying on the floor. They are met by Tanya who says that Baraka has come back empty handed and they nearly get in a fight. Because Shang Tsung can raise souls he decides to go back to Hell and release some old friends to help in the tournament and he leaves. Quan-Chi is later greeted by that shadow who reveals himself to be Noob Saibot. He says that the Earthlings are in Outworld and also he is growing suspicious of Reiko. Quan-Chi says not to worry and that he will serve the "master" well.

Next, Heavens

Raiden is in meditation mode. He is searching for new wariors to help him and the others. He has quick flashes and then he realizes who he must gather for war... Mortal Kombat begins...
