By request Icons MK short overview. I was waiting to see if any others would do it but it doesn't seem like there have been any. Some people wanted someone to puts pics about the icons, I guess I will. I will try to keep it in order. I was going to add pics this thread but desided not too since it will take up tons of space and mods may not like that. I instead will just give a link to my photo bucket site. There you have many pics from the show. Please note that some of the bullets of information may seem far off topic on the world of MK, but I have tried to just gave the reader the idea of how the show really was.

The show starts out with telling that.....................

  • Ed Boon helped program a football game called High Impact Football.
  • Tobias help work on Smash TV
  • Boon and Tobias were/are fans of Kung Fu movies.
  • While in the late 80s Boon and Tobias got together to do a fighting game with digitized graphics.
  • At first wanted to do Van Damn the video game, but couldn’t since Van Damn made a deal with Sega first.
  • Tobias’s friends just so happened to be into martial arts helps do motion capture for the game.
  • With the success of Street Figher Midway greenlights MK1
  • MK1 staff Vogal did backgrounds, Tobias did characters, Boon programming, Dan Fordan sounds.
  • MK1 storyline was influenced by movies like Enter the Dragon.
  • Cage was influenced by Jean Claude Van Damn's character from bloodsport the movie.
  • Rayden- Was Influenced my the lighting dude from Show Down In Little Tokyo .
  • Liu Kang s’ influenced was a combination of Bruce Lee and other “famous” martial artists
  • Kano was influenced by The Terminator pilling skin
  • Sub-Zero is a result of stretched memory. MK team wanted to get two characters from amount of memory.( **Scorpion was first created**)
  • When MK was shown to Midway’s CEO at the time , he suggested a female character should be added to the game thus Sonya was born.
  • Ed Boon says MK’s fatalities were influenced by Street Fighters “dizziness” when a fighter in Street Figher was hit multiple times to become dizzy.
  • Alcclaim comes up with Mortal Kombat’s marketing. 10 million dollars acclaim rolls out to promote Mortal Kombat. Also created Mortal Monday idea
  • MK1 sells 6 million copies
  • In 3 weeks the home version of MK1 sells 3 million copies.
  • Acclaim comes up with idea with the sweat in the Snes version.
  • Genesis version of MK1 outsold the snes version 3 to 1.
  • Of course one of the games that started the ratings system( the IDSA).
  • Steve Beran discusses the improvements of MK1 to MK2
  • Snes version of MK2 keeps the blood.
  • MK1 the movie grossed 23 million dollars ( 2nd biggest August opening at the time)
  • Ed Boon expresses how MK3 had the toughest time out of MK1 and MK2, also why they added new features such as the run button. As well as amazingly falsely stated that Sony had exclusive rights for MK3 on home systems.
  • Typical Icon fashion downplays MK3 only to make a comeback high note with MK: DA.
  • MK2 the movie makes 17 million the 1st week
  • Games like Tekken 2 , force MK to move to 3-D
  • Some MK4 talk with Boon saying that he thought MK4 using 2-D gameplay in 3-D didn't work that well.
  • 2 million + units of MK4 are sold
  • Talk about MKM-Subzero released in 1997.
  • Tobias states why he left Midway. He wanted to branch off , and have more ownership on what he creates . He wanted to move on.
  • Steve Beran express how much the better they have learned in the past to create MK: DA
  • Talk about the "comeback" of MK. with MK: DA
  • Talk about MK: Deception:
  • Boon , Goskie, Vogal and Beran tough upon MK: Deception game play and its modes.
  • Some behind the scence look at MK: Deception
  • Steve Beran states that there will defiantly be another game after Mortal Kombat Deception
  • Tobias expresses his happiness of MK still alive after all these years.
  • Multi Billion dollar franchise
  • I will summerize the pics at a later time. Some of the pics aren't so great, but again I will give a description of the pics later. I am sick, and my throat hurts.Laterzzzzz
