Besides the fact that it can make more money as a PG-13 i really think that even though the MK games are violent, dark and much gritteir than whats appeared on film so far i actually think if they do eventually make MK3 or God help me a reboot of the original i think its better to stick with a PG-13 rating becuase i mean who actually complains so much about the original?

It was a classic, honoured the franchise well, good action scenes, decent involving story etc.

I actually think making it R would hurt its chances of being more successful.

I'd prefer R, but if they can get the plot right this time and make it as violent as possible, I settle for PG-13 with an R or Unrated director's cut.

I would just prefer the new movie, what ever it will be,to just be a good movie, rated R will NEVER guarantee you a good movie i.e avp-R.

So get a good script and do the best job you can. If it turns out to get a R rating then good for it,but if it doesn't need it then DEAL with it.

I'm with sonicherosfan. I think the creators need to worry more about writing a mature movie before playing around with the blood and gore. There are a lot of horror movies out there with R-ratings. Doesn't make them good.

I would say R only because PG-13 MK was done already. It would be nice to change the tone and give a movie an R rating. I mean Doom got an R rating (even though the movie was piss poor). Resident Evil got R ratings. WB should just take their time w/ the movie, make it R, and enjoy the rewards. It doesn't have to be over the top gore (see saw 3-6, hostel, The Descent) but just enough.

I agree with that.

You gotta make it R, at least for some good fatalities and a bit of blood. As said, you don't have to go all-out with "gore" BUT even Boon himself once stated, "I don't think Mortal Kombat would have been successful without the blood in it." It was its violence combined with a decent story that made it such a huge phenom. Why not keep it that way. GRANTED the first movie was pretty decent, however, I was a bit dissapointed in the excruciating lack of blood when this was clearly a movie based off of one of the most violent fighting games of our era.

Okay, everyone know that kids love Mortal Kombat. The first Mortal Kombat was good, but one of its weak points was that it had very little blood. So if I live to see the next Mortal Kombat movie, I would love to see it rated R, and we all know we'll see kids dragging their parents or older brothers to AMC to see it.

But I only want to see it rated R for the blood, and maybe they can squeeze a few F words in there, but it still needs good acting, a good story, good fights, and good special effects. The blood alone won't do it.

Story had nothing to do with it. MK made its impact through the violence and nothing else, period. And there's a big difference between making games in the early nineties or making hollywood movies. The first MK movie was a success, and it had nearly no blood so you can't really make a comparison between the importance of violence to the games and to the movies.
