This was a story that IGN piggybacked off of their own news regarding the reboot of the MK movies, but since it was another story about the next MK movie, I figured I'd put it in it's own thread.

Plus, I'm curious to see what people think of IGN's opinions here.

I laughed my ass of at this since it seems like they want a remake of the first one and the guy who wrote this doesn't even know what happen in the first movie cause he said Kung Lao died in the first few minutes of the movie, when we all know it was liu kangs brother who died. How can he even make that mistake and type that up on there?

After spending half the article harping on how all the actors needed to be real, bona fide martial artists, they pretty much lost me when the only actor they could think of bringing back was Bridgette Wilson, the LEAST impressive fighter in the entire first movie. Well, aside from Raiden, who didn't get a chance to show his stuff as is often the case. Sure, Bridgette made a hella fun Sonya outside of the ring, but MK dropped the ball when they didn't invite the original inspiration for the character, five-time undefeated World Karate Champion (and actress), Cynthia Rothrock, to play the role. Yes, MK should have a few babes, but we expect them to kick a little ass, too!

Otherwise, I'm not too picky about the movie, as long as it's good and successful. I do hope they mix things up a bit, though. I don't want to just watch the '90s movie with better graphics. Let's get some Kabal and Quan Chi in there! A little Jade for good measure. Give us something we don't expect!

I don't think that Kung Lao mistake was a big one. They're obviously not hardcore MK fans, and there's nothing wrong with that. They played Shaolin Monks and assumed Kang and Kung Lao were brothers. Then they remembered how in the movie Liu Kang wants to avenge his brother, so they thought it was Kung Lao. Big deal.

And they said Bridgette should return in a cameo, not actually playing Sonya.

There's a lot in the article that I disagree with, some stuff I agree with. It's an interesting read.

I read it as an implied "cameo (at the very least)," but the criticism still stands. If anyone should be considered first for a cameo or major role as a different character, it should be Robin Shou. You want a kick-ass movie, bring in actors who genuinely kick ass!

Some of that stuff...like a better budget and better trained actors...are no-brainers, but their ideas on the storyline and what characters should get the most attention are laughable.
