I mean mortal kombat is really a popular video game and has many fans and its franchise is growing but why is the film so low on budget? How can such a great series of video game be such a letdown when it comes to the movies.

Hollywood needs to realize how popular mortal kombat is and make it in to a really great film that won't upset us fans. I might be thinking of becoming a movie director someday and hopefully i can direct mortal kombat becuase i've been of fan of this for so long and i know what is missing from this film. Hopefully hollywood actors will be in this movie we need them!!!!!

Not really, it is just that they waste too much time . . . oh wait let me reword that . . . they are spending too much time crying over the failure of the last movie, so they are trying to see what they can do to cover up the screw up we call MK Annihilation.wink

The first game wasn't even supposed to be as big as it is now. We, the fans, wanted more. So that's why they keep coming out with a bunch of shit. Remember, it took 4 people to make Mortal Kombat, and now, with Armageddon, it will take over 94 people to create it. That's a lot of pay rolls. As far as the movies go, there is what they call "Box Office Potential" in the games, they are just not doing it any justice, as they keep thinking about little kids while they are producing the media, knowing damn well it aint supposed to be for middle-schoolers.
As much as i agree with you that MK should be made into a big budget film, the fact is the original MK movie was not really a low budget film, it was back by new line cinema with a big budget since MK was at its peak around that time.

Even though the movie looks kindof 'b grade' it would be considered in my view as a 'high class and budget b grade movie'. But i mean who knows now with MK3, i hope it gets backed with million and millions of dollars but im not sure, well just have to wait and see.

The first film had a budget of around $20 million.

MKA had a budget of $30M, which when comparing the two seems ridiculous. However, supposedly they squandered much of the MKA budget travelling around the world filming. I think this is most evident in the below - par special effects, which were obviously added once the filming was complete.

So, MK has never had a small budget, and I believe the first movie typified the budget they had to use. Hopefully MK3 will have a similar backing, with a director and crew who can get as much out of it as possible - rather than flying to Asia, then to Wales for the Mileena - Sonya mudfight, then to wherever the Temple of the Elder Gods scenes were filmed. What a waste...

I think that a big problem is that video game movies have had a pretty bad reputation. It seems that perhaps the first MK movie is the best of them. Many of the bad video game movies are more so due to losers like Uwe (Toilet) Boll. Btw, there's apparently going to be a Postal movie starring Gary Coleman which is going to be a big disaster.

Anyhoo, one problem with going from video game to movie with MK is that MK has a big story, too big to put it into a movie that can possibly handle the budget. The first MK movie may have been good, but even so, there were some things that could've been done much better.

I really hope MK3 gets great wiriters and a huge budget, like the X-Men movies. MK has huge movie potential (The storyline is great), but they just need to get the right people to do it.

You are exactly right Ninja_Mime, with good writers and such, that will make all the good elements to a good movie franchise, such as X-Men or Star Wars.

Well i just hope they have 50 million or more to start this movie and to me they just don't know how to use that much $$$ to make a great film. This better not let us mk fans down if the movie turns out bad again.
