Did any older MK fans ever see this? It was in 1996 and I remember I was really excited after I saw it. Can anyone tell me what it was about?

I saw it. It took place after the MK movie, apparently, Shang Tsung was in it though and had his MK3 look (as most characters did). Shao Kahn basically had 6 amulets he was in search for, and Raiden wanted the Earth warriors to find them first.
