First of all, I like the basic premise of Annihilation: Shao Kahn takes over Earth with Shinnok's help, Raiden and the gang have 7 days to kick their asses before the conquest becomes permanent. Excellent premise, but it needs a hell of a lot of tweaking:

How about this: Shao Kahn steps through the portals between the realms to claim his bride and take over Earth. He and his extermination squads hunt down and kill most all of the people on Earth except for Raiden and his warriors, INCLUDING Cage, who sacrifices himself to buy the gang enough time to escape. It's soon learned that Kahn made a deal with the fallen Elder God Shinnok to resurrect his bride Sindel in exchange for Shinnok's release from the Netherealm and a chance to take over the Heavens. Raiden tells the gang to split up to find allies, with LIu heading off to the Shaolin Temple, Kitana heading back to Outworld, Sonya heading off to her Special Forces base, and Raiden himself heading off to the Heavens (acquiring Kung Lao, Jade, Jax, and Fujin as allies in the process). Various battles ensue, including an epic battle between Ermac and Noob Saibot, the former having been convinced by the captured Cage (whose soul Kahn imprisoned and tortured for information about Raiden and the gang) of Kahn's evil. Eventually, there's a huge battle between Raiden's gang and Kahn's/Shinnok's gang, resulting in Raiden's team winning and Shinnok, Kahn, and their armies destroyed. HOWEVER, Quan Chi, Shinnok's advisor who betrayed the Elder God and disappeared with his Amulet, is confronted by Sub-Zero and, with Scorpion, fights off the cold ninja until he overcomes both of them, revealing to Scorpion his part in Scorpion's clan's death (just like in MK4). Scorpion, in turn, teleports himself and Quan Chi to the Netherealm, supposedly ending the last remnants of Shinnok's threat on Earth. At the end of the movie, however, Quan Chi (separated from Scorpion during his trip to the Netherealm) brushes himself off, checks to make sure he still has the Amulet, looks around, and grins, muttering "Now, where was I?"

Pretty detailed, yet I would like to see an innovative plot for Devastation which builds further off the games instead of mimicing them. I love your ending, when Quan Chi says that line. He could look straight at the camera when he says it, then you could hear "Mortal Kombat!" when the theme song commences while the camera is still focused on him. Then it could immediately go to black and the credits can roll. I would love to hear a new techno re-mix of the original Mortal Kombat theme, Techno Syndrome 7" Mix by The Immortals. I personally would love to see the resurrected return of old characters which weren't in the game series, which would highly seperate the films. Art Lean, Chan Kang... Fighters which had hardly enough time in the spotlight. They could also incorporate recent characters which weren't included enough, such as Monster from Deception, the former Champion of the Elder Gods. He could be seen in a chapter of the film confronting the Elder Gods, who give him a second chance to avoid eradication for his pity. A battle against Scorpion or Dark Raiden would be sweet.

Well, considering how recent rumors have stated that Annihilation will NOT be considered canon for the movie series (meaning that Devastation WILL be the true sequel to the first movie), it would make sense that Devastation be a sorta 'remake' of Annihilation, at the very least retelling the invasion of Shao Kahn (the retelling of Deadly Alliance and Deception won't come in movie form until the movie AFTER Devastation, meaning we'll need a transition between them SOMEHOW). To me, this makes the most sense to incorporate both MK3 AND 4's storyline into the movie so we can focus on the Deadly Alliance and the Dragon King afterwards. It makes no sense to go straight from Shang Tsung's tournament to the Dragon King trying to destroy all that exists without seeing Shao Kahn take his turn at world domination, now does it? And Kahn's partnership with Shinnok IS consistent with the overall storyline for the games, which means we ARE staying true to the source material, which is key in these kinds of movies.

But I get what you're saying: new, movie-specific ideas. Hence some key points in the plot:

Cage sacrificing himself to buy Raiden's crew enough time to make a break for it, then having his soul be captured and tortured by Kahn, only to convince Ermac to release him and join the good guys. Never happend in the game, and makes Cage's death just that more meaningful than the pathetic demise he was given in Annihilation.

Sub-Zero, Sonya, and Jax fighting off the Cyberninja trio. Obligatory 'big fight scene' here, but it makes some key points in the script: 1. Sub-Zero sought refuge in Sonya's and Jax's Special Forces base from the cyberninjas, knowing that they'd be technically inclined enough to help him fend them off. He even admits to Sonya that he was hoping they'd be able to help restore Smoke's humanity, echoing Cyber Smoke's Bio/Ending in MK3. 2. During their exchange, Sonya mentions to Subby that she saw Quan Chi among Kahn's extermination squad. Subby tells her a little about who Quan Chi is, but little more than his name and the fact that 'He's a sorcerer, and NOT one of Shao Kahn's. He works for a higher master', the first clue our heroes have to the alliance between Kahn and Shinnok. 3. Subby mentions to Sonya his desire to return to the Lin Kuei and depose its current leader, taking it over himself and changing it into a force of good. Sonya gives the off-hand remark that if he does, the Special Forces could use an ally like him to combat the likes of the Red Dragon, all things that do indeed happen in Deadly Alliance and will probably play a somewhat prominent role in the 'third' sequel.

Kitana's meeting with Bo' Rai Cho. Bo' has a small cameo role in the movie, but a very significant one: he helps Kitana and Jade escape after Kahn's armies discover Tanya's and Mileena's bodies, and tells her about the army of loyalists to Kitana that he had gathered waiting to be given the signal to attack Kahn's forces in Outworld. Knowing Kahn's extermination squads - consisting of a sizable chunk of his army - is already on Earth, she gives him the go ahead, unofficially giving him the reins of the resistance and creating the scenario that we see in Deadly Alliance and Deception with Bo' and his armies against those of Kahn. This is the spark that starts it all in the movies.

The two-on-one match ups between Raiden's and Kahn's/Shinnok's forces at the end. Taken somewhat from the final showdown in Annihilation, but done a heck of a lot more smartly. True, the good guys outnumber the bad guys 2-1, but the bad guys are uber-powerful, and can hold their own against the good guys...for a while at least. I also wanted to see final poetic retribution for each of the bad guys, thus pairing up the good guys against them as I have. Two champions of Mortal Kombat against Outworld's Emperor, two gods against a fallen Elder, two Edenian warriorettes against their former Queen, and two down-home Earth Warriors against the baddest creature Outworld has to offer. It's really a beautiful thing, if you think about it.

Quan Chi's double-teaming with Scorpion against Subby, and his eventual hubris leading to his trip to the Netherealm. Classic case of Quan Chi manipulating things to his favor. It's an almost exact copy of Sub's fight with Scorp in their MK4 endings, but this time, Quan's actively involved, allowing you to see just how much control he has over the situation. Even his line at the very end of the movie, when Scorp sends him to the Netherealm with him, lets us know that this was all just part of the plan for him. He is THAT good with deception, and this is the PERFECT way to show it, I think. It also sets up the next MK movie very nicely.

So, yeah, we'll just have to wait for the Dragon King and the Deadly Alliance. For now, at least, I think this would be a kick-ass transition between the past and the future; a true sequel to the first movie in every sense of the term.

And what storyline would you have for the movie, hmm? If Annihilation isn't considered canon anymore, then we've GOT to have Shao Kahn's invasion of Earth somewhere in there, shouldn't we? I don't think the legions of MK fans out there (including yourselves) would appreciate it if they just bypass Shao Kahn altogether and move on to the Deadly Alliance or the Dragon King. Besides, they already said they were going to make 2 movies, so why NOT redo Annihilation RIGHT? I saw nothing wrong with the actual plotline for Annihilation. I maintain that it was pretty much everything else that ruined the movie. If done RIGHT, the plot of Annihilation would've been PERFECT, I think. Most people can agree with me that the plot wasn't the problem, it was the acting, the casting, the script, and the lack of regard for what made the first movie good. Keep the script (with a few tweaks to make it a bit less silly), scrap everything else, and let's make the next movie as good as or better than the first.

Besides, you've got to admit, even with the whole 'Raiden and Shao Kahn are brothers and shinnok's their father' thing, it WAS the most logical way to combine the MK3 and 4 plots together so you can have your precious Deadly Alliance/Deception-based movie.

The next movie should just be exactly like UMK3. Forget MKA, MK4 and all that lame crap that came afterwards.

*rolls eyes* Whatever. I just made it this way because you *KNOW* they're gonna try and combine the plotlines for MK3 and MK4 together into the movie script again. At least with my plotline, Shinnok/Raiden/Shao Kahn aren't all one, big, dysfunctional family...
