I have been an MK fan ever since I played the very first installment (in the arcade). When you look back at it, you just knew it was destined for greatness. I have also been a fan of martial arts films almost as far back as I can remember. I think many of you might agree that MK's storyline is unsurpassed in DEPTH--the most important thing. MK I think bridges many genres in one franchise. I think MK:Annihilation was the biggest blow to the destruction of the series...and I wo'nt even try to explain how--I could write an essay. It was an aweful downfall. But, forgetting about MK:Annihilation, I think wiping the slate clean from there--film wise, would be the best thing that could ever be done for the series.
Furthermore, I think it's just a matter of the franchise being placed in the right hands, that's all. It has to have someone with a VISION for the series/franchise. I think the first film maker(s) did have vision, but it fell into the wrong hands--hence MK:Annihilation. But, if the next film had the right fight choreographers like those in Martial arts films like "Hero" "Iron Monkey", and "Blade (series)", and a director with a vision, and CAREFULLY PICKED ACTORS, MK could very easily be the greatest Martial Arts/SciFi film ever produced. It does not need all of the hype either. Give your feedback on this

You have two shift keys in your keyboard. Above the one on the right, there is a button called ENTER. You shall press it every once in a while when writing a long post. Welcome to MKO, btw.

I love MK's mythology and that's really what I've always loved about it.
I HATE all the 2D games, they're freakin unbearable. What really got me liking MK was the tv show, since it did as much as it could to show the true depth of MK's story. The several realms were shown, the tournament was treated like a sacred event (and it's been treated like shit in the games ever since....MK II), the several cultures were explored nicely and the fact that it was a long tv show gave it time to explore all of the realms and characters deservingly.
Yes, MK has an awesome mythology. But unsurpassable? I'm not sure that was the word you used but it was something to that effect, and my friend, have you tried playing other games? Or seeing other movies or other tv shows? Take a look at Final Fantasy. Lord the Rings. Star Wars. (all franchises I personally hate but I recognize their mythos is as large and probably larger than MK's) What about something smaller... like dragonball? Those fuckers have been everywhere. Earth, Vegeta, Namek, Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, the moon.
The X-Men. Wether they're fighting mutants on Earth, going through hell with Magik or visiting Cyclops' father in OUTER SPACE, they're not exactly a grounded territory either.

Hey not to take anything away from MK, I freakin love it and it's an absolutely kickass, badass franchise with one of the best mythos ever...or rather, mythos with most potential since we havent really gotten a chance to explore it all that much.
But to say it's mythos is unsurpassable? Nope, not a chance. Try putting a Trekkie next to a Mortal Kombat mark and tell them to both start talking about their respective franchises as much as possible. The Mk fan would be dead before the Trekkie would shut up.

Zentile, you make very good points. I have to agree with you there. Maybe unsurpassed was too strong of a word to use.
