Paul Anderson DECLINED to direct the sequels...
According to wikipedia, Paul Anderson declined to direct MK - Annihilation.
I think he read the script and said: WTF?!
Anderson was asked to direct the third movie, Mortal Kombat: Devastation, but declined again.

I say let Tim Burton do it. He did a lot of stuff for Warner Brothers. Besides, Tim Burton could use Quan Chi and make him creepier than ever.

I hope this is a joke response... Tim Burton, yes, makes good movies, but his creative mind is so not for Mortal Kombat.
Just think, he'll be able to make something look like what Johnny Depp looks like as the Mad Hatter, you really want a character to look something like that?
Wow, hold on. Tim Burton isn't half as limited as you make him seem. Big Fish, Sleepy Hollow, Batman, Planet of the Apes and Ed Wood are all Burton films who are visually nothing like Alice. Penguin in Batman Returns looks creepy as hell.
The only reason Burton isn't appropriate is because his storytelling vision is nothing like what Mortal Kombat needs, and martial arts action isn't his thing at all.

Well character design is what Tim Burton is known for. Think about how creepy Quan Chi would look if the movie version was made by Tim Burton.

I think movies and video games are two entertainment mediums that should stay far apart. Imagine what would happen if Uwe Boll got a hold of Mortal Kombat *shudders* if you thought Annihilation was bad.

That doesn't mean anything, I shudder to think Uwe Boll getting a hold of ANY type of movie, whether it's based on video games or not. Video games have been done well, it just doesn't happen often because there isn't a lot of faith from producers and it takes money and a good vision to give a movie a decent script, casting, editing, special effects, actors, etc. There's always a lot of people to please when making a movie based on a game and that's why a lot of times you end up not pleasing anyone.
On the one hand you have to think about the video game fans who want to see everything done just like in the games. On the other hand, there's the rest of the movie goers who don't know the games and therefore need a movie that is more mainstream and pays less attention to all the details from the games; etc.
That's the real issue, but it all comes down to decisions the producers have to make, and for the most part they haven't been the best.

I haven't seen a Tim Burton film look like Sleepy Hollow or Planet of the Apes since those movies came out... Now, they're all cartoony and not a good taste for MK... I just have a feeling that it might look like something like Willy Wonka or Alice if he ever got a hold of the movie making for MK.
But of course, I will agree with you on the storytelling and the action scenes.

I want to see directors come up with original ideas instead of taking them from books, comics, video games, and other movies. If you want to see Mortal Kombat just like the game, play the damn game. If you want to see the story of Mortal Kombat and have never played the game, play the damn game.
