This Thread is for all the people out there like me who dream day and night about MK fight scenes. We know the potential MK has to make itself into great movies and I would like to see other peoples imaginative fight scenes too. I am so passionate about an MK fight scene as it should be because MK has lots of it!

Hopefully the creators of MK are watching too and can get some ideas. If you could tell me if you like the fight scene too that would help heaps thanks.

Before you read mine if you have the song or can get it, I suggest you listen to it because it should help you visualize the fight scene.

Off we go, here is mine:

Characters: Sub-Zero vs. Quan-Chi

Costume: Sub-Zero’s MK: DA alternate costume (he looks big, strong and most importantly he has his mask!)
Quan-Chi’s MK: DA primary costume (he looks evil and it is suitable for fighting)

Arena/fight location: I am calling this arena the ‘eternal tower’. It is very tall at about 125 feet and is a circular dimension. The surface of the tower is level. A large MK dragon symbol is on the surface covering the entire surface top. It is about 50 meters in diameter. The ground below the tower is normal concrete. Thunder, lightning and masses amounts of heavy rain is powering down on the eternal tower. It is isolated therefore there is no spectators, or other structures in the vicinity to allow for a fair fight in Mortal Kombat.

Music: ‘Fear Factory’s Zero Signal’ playing through the entire fight scene. I chose this because it has a good combination of heavy riffs for action and melodic choruses for drama.
I will put in what time frames of the song in the fight scene are for what sequence of the fight. E.g. the heavy riff main part of the song (1:21-1:58). That is what minute and second it starts and ends. These are by no means accurate with the fight scene though, it only to give you rough ideas of were the music is playing to what part of the fight scene.

Sound effects: The normal grunts and groans you would expect from a fight scene, this is not considered dialogue to me. Rain and thunder sounds also.

Dialogue: No.

Lighting: Dim light on the fighters so that they are visible but not bright. When lightning strikes the fighters are lit brightly, highlighting their facial expressions more dramatically, this is only for a fraction of a second though. Throughout the entire fight remember that lightning will strike every few seconds.

Camera angles: Described in the fight scene. A mix of close ups, extreme close ups, landscape shots, first person views, birds-eye shots, high angles and low angles, ground level shots and mid-shots.

Weapons/props: No. Pure hand-to-hand.

Brief story/history: It has come down to these two fighters to determine the fate of earthrealm in Mortal Kombat. The Elder Gods themselves know this and have teleported them to the ‘eternal tower’ to allow for a fair fight. All other earthrealm fighters have failed at suppressing Quan-Chi and all other outworld fighters have failed at stopping Sub-Zero. This is it...

The fight scene! : The camera is situated at a high angle or birds eye view of the eternal tower, highlighting the enormous MK dragon symbol. Rain is pouring down extremely heavily over the tower. Lightning flashed every few seconds. Both fighters are no were to be found yet. Fear Factory’s Zero Signal starts to play at this point with its eerie intro (0:01-0:12).

The camera then starts circulating the tower and descending at the same time (0:13-0:25). When it hits the surface of the tower at ground level immediately it rises again very slowly reveling a human figure, Sub-Zero. As the camera rises to eye-level the back of Sub-Zero is showing with a close up of his huge body. He is standing upright and facing opposite the camera. The sequential drumming of the song begins, as the camera rises to portray him (0:25-0:36).

After about half of this sequence of the song the camera does the same for Quan-Chi, the camera rising up vertically to show his figure at a close up of his body (0:37-0:42).

Now the camera switches to a landscape shot of the arena were both fighters are visible, one on each end of the eternal tower, facing each other (0:42-0:47).

Just as the double kicks part of the intro starts the camera switches to a mid shot of Sub-Zero walking towards his enemy (0:47-0:57). The camera does the same for Quan-Chi, showing him walking towards Sub-Zero (0:57-.

Camera switches back to Sub-Zero showing him jogging now. Camera then goes back to Quan-Chi showing him jogging too towards Sub-Zero. This is all mid shots.

Just before the main heavy riff starts the camera makes a landscape shot showing both fighters sprinting flat out towards each other. The camera zooms in on this at a steady pace.

Now the fight scene really begins. Both fighters engage themselves in kombat. Quan-Chi strikes first with a right palming strike which Sub-Zero blocks quicker than lightning. The camera is at a few fixed positions that view the fighting. Both kombatants exchange many hits but block and dodge every one of them. The reflexes are very fast; it is hand-to-hand kombat at its best. During this section of the song (1:17-1:27), the camera circles both fighters while they are fighting, the expressions of their faces more accurate now.

The first verse of the song starts now (1:28-1:49), and Sub-Zero starts to land a few blows. A close up of him shows, a 3 hit punch combo finishing in the chest, which knocks Quan-Chi flat on his back a few feet away.

The camera now has a first person view of Quan-Chi and he/you see a dark figure closing in which is getting bigger. Now an extreme close up of Quan-Chi is exposed showing him stunned (1:50-1:59).

The next shot is a low angle shot of Sub-Zero’s foot being planted into the ground (2:00-2:10), which makes a huge crater in the surface of the eternal tower. Quan-Chi was lucky to roll away from it.

Quan-Chi immediately flips up onto his feet to counter with a sweep (2:11-2:30), which Sub-Zero jumps and attempts to kick him in the face in mid air. With an arm Quan-Chi blocks it. He then grabs both arms of the ice warrior and knees him into his chest hard, with a harsh cry in pain, Sub-Zero is then given a roundhouse kick into the stomach that sends him flying towards the other side of the eternal tower. A small amount of blood peels itself from his cold mouth. A bird’s eye view of Sub-Zero shows him in pain (2:31-2:39).

Without thinking Quan-Chi hurls himself towards Sub-Zero with his own falling foot move (2:40-2:45). Next a ground shot of Sub-Zero sees him grasp the descending Quan-Chi’s foot and tosses it behind his laying body.

The next shot is of Quan-Chi’s face parallel to the ground being tossed into the ground in a superman like way from Sub-Zero’s counter. Quan-Chi ends up on the edge of the tower overlooking the fall below (2:51-2:53).

Sub-Zero is first to stand up (2:54-2:56), Quan-Chi gathers himself and turns to face his adversary about 10 meters away (2:57-3:00). The camera switches to Sub-Zero’s face, a more concerned look now. While Quan-Chi’s expression is smiling, his vampire-like teeth ever so black, lightning highlighting it even more as it flashes a couple of times. (3:03-3:12).

Quan-Chi makes a huge semi-circular leap to the other side of Sub-Zero; the camera catches this leap and Sub-Zero’s head and body turning the full 180 degrees. On the other side the song starts another heavy riff and they are engaged in fighting again (3:14-3:31). More blocking and striking occurs but nothing critical.

Sub-Zero fires up a fast kick, which Quan-Chi grabs with both of his arms (3:32-3:39). Sub-Zero shakes his head and jumps of his other leg and smashes him right in the side of the head, the hit sends Quan-Chi staggering, Sub-Zero capitalizes with a few fast lighter punches to make it stressful for Quan-Chi to concentrate (3:40-3:50).

With Quan-Chi on the defensive (3:51-4:00), he pulls out a quick giant green skull which Sub-Zero retaliates by an ice ball, both projectiles cancel each other out.
With that, Sub-Zero senses Quan-Chi’s fatigue, and even though he can fell the burn of his chest wound more than ever, he peruses on and locks himself at point blank range with his adversary. The music starts to get melodic (4:00-4:42) A 10 hit punch and kick combo is strung together that finishes with an massive uppercut, the camera shows Quan-Chi’s body curling in a circular arc as Sub-Zero’s arm raises high in slow motion. Blood emits from Quan-Chi’s face as he falls back about 7 meters to the ground.

Next, a high angle shot portrays pools of blood spewing forth from the mouth of Quan-Chi, coughing it up in turn. He attempts to get up quickly but cant because of the pain; he makes it only to his knees. Dazed and hurt, Quan-Chi is facing the other direction of Sub-Zero. The words “I am lost” are being played very slowly (4:43-4:52), Sub-Zero walks over to the battered Quan-Chi removing his mask. He walks in hurt strides but with confident eyes. A shot of Quan-Chi in the foreground shows his pain and astonishment while a blue figure is moving closer in the faded background.

Without knowing a hand grasps the head of Quan-Chi, the song repeats the words “I am so numb” repeatedly (5:04-5:21), a glowing blue light forms in Sub-Zero’s other hand, a shot of Quan-Chi’s face looking upward in dismay as a massive amount of blood is forged from the back of his head. Now an extreme close up of Sub-Zero’s head shows his anger and hatred for his enemy, his muscles under tense pressure, when the final “I am so numb” is sung, (5:22-5:25), Sub-Zero rips the skull forth from Quan-Chi’s head and raises it high above his own. The song finishes with the piano part (5:28-5:45), and a rising camera shot starts off by showing Quan-Chi’s dead corpse, ascending to Sub-Zero’s body, dripping with rain, his face screaming in triumph, and finally the bloodied skull of Quan-Chi with its spine swinging from side to side.

The camera then switches to a high angle shot of the arena. The MK dragon symbol is visible and the camera zooms out until it fades out with the last piano keystroke at (5:46).
