Do you think that MK3 the movie will determine MK's future in the film industry. I personally feel if MK3 fails to the meet fans and critics expectations than the franchise is buried for life in this sector of media.

Yes, you're right. The second movie sucked so bad, it would be a miracle if a third would get off the ground. I think it goes like this tho:

MK:D/MK7 does good = better chance of MK3 movie

I don't predict MK will go any further in the film industry because we are now in the era of trilogies in the film industry.

That and MK has been around for a long time and has already proven that it can't hack it on mainstream television. What are they going to do? Continue making MK movies for the big screen? I don't think so.

The TV series itself did make it in a sense, it had great ratings considering the time it was on and the subject matter. It was TNT being too cheap to pay the actors and Sci-Fi channel's stupidy refusal in continuing it by saying that MK:C was not sci-fi that ended the series.

The first MK movie did make a resonable profit, for the time it was made. The so call major movies now can't say the same because many of the so-called blockbusters spend more money in being made than what they rack in.

MK:A was a rush job and the ones making it didn't care as much as the ones who made the first movie. They treated it like it was the same as any other video game to movie film at the time. (i.e. Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Double Dragon, etc)

However, now you have video games and comic books being made into movies and actually being good if not great. The basic story is already there so writers can be paid less, the original creators want the movie as to have the free press so I'm assuming they're not charging much for the right to make the movie (and making sure its done right this time).

The main reason why it has taken so long for the third MK movie I can see is a combination of things. Since MK:A and MK4 came out to MK:D arrival, MK was considered old news and not profitable. Now MK is in the news, people like it and want more. This and the old belief that comic/video game movies are money losers rather than money makers was what kept the third movie from being made. If this movie is profitable enough, you can expect a fourth, fifth, etc so long as it makes money. (i.e. Star Wars, Batman, etc.) The 'age of trilogies' is a myth. The reason for the LotR trilogy because it is based off of a book trilogy. The Matrix trilogy is only because it is what the original writers planned and there is already rumors of a fourth.

haha something you said struck me as funny. It had great ratings but....they didn't want to pay them. Doesn't sound too great there does it?

The movies aren't include in television, I might have mislead you. Besides MK1 was a moderate movie not a revenue pulling vacuum.

Besides Matrix and LOTR, there's also Spiderman, X-Men (possibly) Blade. Star Wars are also in sets of 3's

Sound more like a fad than a myth there bub.

Unless the 3rd generates a new fans (which it most likely won't) like X-Men has been doing (Wolverine being the 10th most marketable charactor) then its up to the fanboys who'll see it 7 and more times to keep MK continuing in the movies. And I don't think it'll happen.

Since when does two movies make a trilogy? (Spiderman)(Blade, ok soon to be trilogy but only because 2nd movie made money)

Since when does 5 movies (soon to be six) make a trilogy? (Star Wars, originally planned to be actually 9 movies)

What I meant, that TNT didn't feel like paying the actors anymore after the series was no longer being made. The longer the show is on, the more money the actors get paid even after it gets cancelled. Besides, I don't blame TNT rarely do they make a series that lasts more than a single season and they did try to sell it to Sci-Fi.

There's going to be a third Spiderman. And Starwars was originally a trilogy. The newer ones are another trilogy, and even if they create a greedy money sucker and create more they will still be a group of 3.

Resident Evil will probably have a 3rd.

Need I go on?

Anyway, this is stupid. All we're doing is arguing technicality. Point is we have 2 different views You think MK will once again be sucessful in media , I do not. I've said why I feel this way and you said why you think your way.

Now I'm done goodbye

My apologies if I upset you or seemed to be trying to start a flame war. All I was saying it is a possiblity that MK could make it in other media if done right. Anyways, bye bye
