After seeing so many threads hating on MKA everywhere, with people trashing the movie for no good reason, always saying the same bullshit over and over again (probably just to feel better about themselves), I started focusing my mind completely on the good things, MK related, that the Threshold has brought to us. Namely, Mortal Kombat Conquest.
I picked up my MKC DVDs the other day and decided to watch a few episodes, to remember how hot the show was. I remember I loved it... but I didn't quite remember why.
Jeff Meek, Paolo Montalban, Daniel Bernhardt, Kristanna Loken, Bruce Locke and Jonathan Sloate quickly reminded me why I loved this show so much. Yes, alot of times there was some pretty bad acting. But for most of the time, I think, the starring cast put on acting scenes no shorter than oscar deserving, namely Jeff Meek in his double role as both Shao Kahn and Rayden; Completely opposite characters, but played perfectly by the same one actor. Meek played the evil and ruthless Shao Kahn quite well... but also displayed a more sadistic, humorous side of the emperor when necessary, while equally perfect.
The same for Rayden, who, for most of the show, is a sarcastic Thunder god who albeit funny, always brought a ton of drama when the scene requested, namely at the end of Immortal Kombat (his best performance, IMO) and at the final two episodes, contained in the MKC Final Battle DVD.
Paolo seemed like he was just being himself playing Kung Lao... almost every dialogue scene he was in seemed like he was just being himself; there was no character there. Just a real person. Sure, Paolo couldn't play an evil guy if his life depended on it (as episode Quan Chi proved), but still, he wasn't playing an evil guy for most of the show so that's just fine with me.
Daniel Bernhardt was, IMO, the most surprising of the actors as he was pretty damn good for most of the show, and he could teach JC Van Damme how to act and fight anyday.
Kristanna Loken, even though she played the ''american sarcastic girl'' role, which can be a bit anti-climatic at times, she played it just... perfectly.
The fight scenes, dispite using alot of re-used footage, were IMO fantastic for the most part, with very original moves, dramatic camera angles and powerful sound effects, not to mention the music, Soundtrack completely made by one Jonathan Sloate. Sure, it was composed electronically by just one man, but if it was instrumental it would be 100% perfect for a mortal kombat movie. For a tv show, it was awesome.

Well, that's it for now... if anyone else feels like showing some love for MKC or the first Mortal Kombat movie, by all means do.

MK Conquest was finally brought to DVD? Or do you live in Europe?

Anyways, I only saw like one episode of the show, but I thought it was pretty good, even though there was no fighting at all. I saw it vacationing in Canada. It was so good in fact, that I wanted to stay there and watch it instead of going to do stuff.

I live in Portugal, but that makes no diference. You can order the DVD if you want, nobody's stopping you just because you live in America (I assume).
Anyway, what episode did you see? There were always three fights per episode, except in Immortal Kombat (which featured only two fights) and I think Vengeance had four (Reptile vs. Shadow Priests, Rayden vs. Shao Kahn, Quan Chi & Siann vs. Shadow Priests; Shang Tsung vs. Shadow Priests).
What was the episode about?

MK: Conquest was a good show, and I'm surprised it has never been played since it was canned back in 98 or 99. I did hear it was going to be on Black Belt Tv, but I haven't heard anything about that channel here in Canada...

Anyways, I don't remember too much about it, other than the girls were hot (and wore practicaly no clothes), the fights were good (saw Subby vs Scorpion on the internet recently, solid fight), the acting was surprisingly ok (Shang Tsung was a great Shang from what I remember, especialy having to follow up Cary Tagowa's amazing perfomance as Tsung in MK1), and the special effects were cheesy...

I remember Rain was great, as was Noob Saibot, the Lin Kuei were all about ice (not true in the MK storyline) and if the trainees failed to pass their tests they were frozen to death. There was a kick ass fight between Kung Lao and Shang Tsung, I think in the very first episode, and if I'm not mistaken it was the final fight in the 10th tournament. Finaly, Daniel Bernhardt (awesome in Bloodsport 2) was in it as Siro, and I think he is a good fighting actor. He could fill a role in MK: Devastation, dunno which, but he'd be a solid choice...

Anyways, that's pretty much all I remember from MKC, hopefully it will get released here on DVD, and if it does I'd pick it up.

I am still in need of MKC, have not seen one episode.

The Lin Kuei was not all about ice at all. I don't know where you got that idea from, brother.
Honestly I loved the show but I just hated how they ended it or how I think they ended it cause the last thing I know is that Shao Kahn was talking about Kung Lao, the body guard, the theif, Kititana and the sourcerers where dead and him I think killing Raiden. I mean ending it where Shao Kahn's henchmen killed every single character and then 86'ing Raiden. That is a "no, no" to do that esspecially when you know that MK fans are watching. If you are going to make a game based tv show you have to stay true to the games storyline no matter how vaque it is. Plus them having Sub-Zero and Scorpion in there idiots. Scorpion is Scorpion he was killed by Sub-Zero in a time before the first MK game not back when the original Kung Lao had won the tournament. Sub-Zero I'm cool with because their is a possibilty that it is just one of the Sub-Zero brothers ancestors but not Scorpion. Well that is what I have to say.

Ah...MK:C. One of my all time favorite shows and the first (and only so far) that I actually wrote a fanfic for. And like everyone else it seems, I also hate how it ended. For few years after it went off the air I kept hoping that someone would get some sense and continue the story. Sci-Fi or the Action channel perhaps. *sigh*

Jeff Meeks in my opinion was up there with Lambert as being the best Rayden and he was so different as Kahn, I didn't even guess it was the same actor until I actually read it on a web site. (I never did like reading credits) That is a sign of a great actor.

It even had some great original characters...anyone remember Jola? That was one dragonlady I did not want to get pissed off at me.

Hey, Zentile: You said it doesn't matter where you live to get the MKC DVDs? Well like a year ago I heard someone say something about having to have a European DVD player or something, IDK. But I'd like your help on how to get those DVDs, please.

Yeah but it doesn't matter where you live. You can buy a multi regional DVD player anywhere in the world. I bought a really good one for just 29 dollars so I could watch my Wrestling and Street Fighter DVDs I ordered from the US.
