Mortal Kombat: The Movie

Production Budget: $20,000,000

Domestic Gross: $70,454,098
Overseas Gross: $51,741,822
WORLDWIDE TOTAL: $122,195,920

VHS Rentals: $36,000,000

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Mortal Kombat Annihilation

Production Budget: $30,000,000

Domestic Gross: $35,927,406
Overseas Gross: $15,449,455
WORLDWIDE TOTAL: $51,376,861

Now you see, when comparing the totals for both films, MKA did not even do half as good as MK1. I'm sure this was b/c of the many bad reviews MKA got, unlike MK1. So technically MKA was a flop I guess. I got the overseas grosses for the movies on boxofficemojo.com.

The second movie wasn't that good so I can see why it didn't do well, here's my hypothesis on what the figures for the next MK Movie will be,

Mortal Kombat 3 Domination

Production Budget- $60,000,000.

Domestic Gross- $185,000,000.
Overseas Gross- $89,000,000.

The rumored budget for MK3 is a little over $20M, unfortunately if this is true I hope they can do as good a job as MK1 did with $20M.
I wish it were $60M...

Wait, hold on. Are you telling me MKA had a production budget of 10,000 000 MORE than that original film?

**Thinks of the Baraka mask**

**thinks of the recycled Rain-falling-into-fire death**

Where the hell did all the money go? Catering?

I wish MK3 would have a budget of $75 million. That way it would look impressive and better than both the first two. I hope that's their budget so they could use more advanced special effects and get well known actors into it.
Right now the budget is said to be $25 million for MK3. I heard that's what Threshold wants. But I don't think that will be good enough.

That's what sources say MKA had a budget of. Apparently most of the budget for MKA was wasted on traveling to 7 different locations around the world. I'm sure that was very expensive to do. The Baraka make-up and the special effects looked cheesy b/c it's obvious the movie was rushed.
Than you also have to compare Sheeva and Motaro to Goro. I don't know why Sheeva and Motaro couldn't be technological puppets like Goro was.

...

There hasn't been a word invented to describe such atrocity...

You know what's funny? Ray Park, the man we know as Toad from X-Men, and Darth Maul from Star Wars: Episode I, was a stunt double for Raiden in MKA.

Funny how things work out, eh?

Something else intertesting.

MK1 got released in more theatres than MKA did.

Box office mojo says this...

MK1's Theatre count - 2,421
MKA's Theatre count - 2,140

MKA getting released in a lesser amount of theatres was probably another reason for it's flop.
