Well I was just watching Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat Anhlilation and I was shocked to see dat it was rated PG-13 while da game is rated M for Mature as it always was. Now they should make a 3rd movie and it should be rated R plus they should add much more volence.

Yeah, wrong board buddy. (probably) But the MK Movies are rated lower because they want to appeal to a Larger audience. It is belief that PG-13 movies attract larger crowds. Though I don't think this is entirely true.

MK's fan base in relatively young. Although minors really don't have a problem getting an M game, many do have a hard time getting into an R movie. To appeal to this fan base they make the movie PG13.

It's so friggin' obvious! You don't see that kind of gore in the movies. You don't see fatalities. You don't see blood spilling by the gallon. You don't see people ripping each other apart or brutally slaughtering each other in the movies.

It's trying to attract a younger audience, wait, wasn't there gore in the first movie, how Sub-Zero freezes that guy and you can see the ice w/ the body parts?

One reason, money. Sad but true. A lower rating has a better chance of bringing in a bigger audience, especially with something fantasy like MK, with a lot of potential teen fans. It's one of the oldest tricks, for example, Terminator 2 had a lower rating than part 1, and did far better at the box office.
