Why are Mortal Kombat games are rated M while their movies are just rated PG-13?

posted10/03/2005 07:44 PM (UTC)bys3Kt0r Well I was just watching Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat Anhlilation and I was shocked to see dat it was rated PG-13 while da game is rated M for Mature as it always was. Now they should make a 3rd movie and it should be rated R plus they should add much more volence.

Yeah, wrong board buddy. (probably) But the MK Movies are rated lower because they want to appeal to a Larger audience. It is belief that PG-13 movies attract larger crowds. Though I don't think this is entirely true.

MK's fan base in relatively young. Although minors really don't have a problem getting an M game, many do have a hard time getting into an R movie. To appeal to this fan base they make the movie PG13.

It's trying to attract a younger audience, wait, wasn't there gore in the first movie, how Sub-Zero freezes that guy and you can see the ice w/ the body parts?

One reason, money. Sad but true. A lower rating has a better chance of bringing in a bigger audience, especially with something fantasy like MK, with a lot of potential teen fans. It's one of the oldest tricks, for example, Terminator 2 had a lower rating than part 1, and did far better at the box office.
