Why didn't they use the game storyline in the movie?

I don't understand why the guys who made the mortal kombat movies didn't just follow the game storyline so it made more sense, instead of coming up with their own ideas that completely contradict the game storyline, and they just confuse people who think the movie and game storyline is the same. PERFECT example: When Smoke is fighting Liu Kang(for god knows what reason), and Sub-zero comes floating over(I guess he can fly now!?!) and freezes Smoke and helps Liu Kang kill him, when Smoke was supposed to be Sub-zero's friend.

i agree, i mean, it wud have been ok if they made a "few" changes to make it better or easier, but in MKA they went to far....it was good on mk1..but mka, i can name SOO many errors that shud have been used from the game...

Mileena fighting Sonya= Ok, um, MIleena's name was not even mentioned, and she is a clone to one of the main characters in the story (Sounds pretty important) and knowing Mileena, i think she wud not waste her time going after Sonya, wen she has to kill Kitana, try to go against Kahn, get with Baraka and so on...

Motaro- i thot he was suppose to be scary and i thot he was suppose to be invading earth and Killing and killing sheeva the moment he sees her...he was inside the castle the whole time! wtf was that...i thot he was brave

Shao Kahn= i dun even wanna start!

Scorpion vs. Sub Zero- no one had a clue y they were fighting (people that dont know that story) and they were fighting in the cheapest sets ever...

Kitana and jade relationship= Wen Liu rescued Kitana and took her to her mother, Jade was there...wasnt they suppose to know each other, or at least, couldnt Kitana say something about her friend Jade...if Kitana new she was evil there, she cud have said somethin, or if she didnt, something else cud have been said....it looked like they didnt know each other

dang, i can go on fo eva!

My guess is the movie producers thought it'd be easier to dumb down the plot and charaters as much as possible and they'd make more money that way. The movie producers probably figured the mindless video game fans just want to see fights and wouldn't care about the plot or characters.

Indeed. Hopefully they learned not to do it again.

MK became hollywoodised in a sense of the word, the MK storyline wouldn't appeal to the masses so it needed to be modified because MK fans weren't enough to make the film a success.

i guess it would be too late for them to start following the story from the games, since they killed reptile in the first movie. ( when reptile leaves that corpse behind and he's covered in maggots after fighting liu kang and he gets stepped on ). wasn't reptile suppose to turn into the dragon king? or are they gonna use some cheap reason to " resurrect" him?
