DOnt know, but I think is much cooler. I would love to see a Scorpion Fatality where he actually shots the animal-like spear, and it will eat the victim, or just kill it very cool.

Well, I think they used a mechanical serpent because basically- it looked a HELL lot cooler. Besides, a spear wobbling about following u wouldn't really make all that sense. And those 'dramatic' momments with the spear trying to bite Cage wouldn't be possible.
So the serpent was a rather wise choice.

To help give you the idea that he wasn't a normal human. With Sub-Zero, it was easy, all he had to do was shoot some ice. How many people have you met who can do that? But if all Scorpion could do was sling a harpoon around, there wouldn't have been anything special or intimidating about him. Giving him the snake thing made you realise that this guy wasn't to be fucked with.

I sure wouldn't mess with a guy that has that kinda "trick up his sleeve" HAHA, oh wait, it's in his hand...

But besides, it's definately way cooler, and it would look really intimidating to an opponent.

From what I heard(Don't flame me) the third MK movie would be based on on MK:DA. So, since Scorpion has the serpent spear, Why not have him in his Alt. Outfit of MK:DA. I mean, to me it would look cheap to see a serpent come out of armor, so have it come out of his bandages.
