Also, She didn't allow Shao Kahn to fuck her because she is an evil witch/bitch ... She was RAPED NRS .. RAPED !!

You want realism ? Raping is out there .. Kahn the fucker is a rapist.....

Her leaked ending is like a cartoon..

Too much damage has been done to the MK franchise through MK11. Story is just one part but there are bigger problems. The woke policy, the metoo propaganda, the uglyfication of female characters, the change of certain character's ethnicity because of political agenda, the dumbed-down fighting system (compared to MKX). They for example turned Kitana into an Asian, but her mother (and even her father in the ending) remained white. Total nonsense.

They turned jade into an middle-eastern and put hijab on her. They made a Saharan desert nomad out of Scarlet. They made Inspector Gadget out of Frost. Scorpion and Sub-Zero who were the coolest, most popular and most badass characters of MK, they were turned into some Mr Miyagi and Cobra Kai lookalike from some cheap 80's kungfu movie. Geras is a weak excuse for a sub-boss and even weaker excuse for a character, they simply took Tremor and Jax and smashed them together. Kronika as a main villain with all this multiverse and time bullsh*t could maybe be good in some DC comic book on some Earth-125, but not in the MK.
Sonya became "the feminist dream" while Johnny simply became a cuck.
The list goes on and on but the point is that they screwed it up big time.

1 - Shawn is no longer with the team, he was let go following the release of the game.

2 - He played second fiddle to Dom Cianciolo, and it was more of a collaborative process. I know this because we spoke to both of them following the release of the game to ask some questions. Your anger is probably best not placed on Shawn 100%. I'm not defending some of the choices, but the majority of the DLC characters were handled mostly by Dom.

3 - Shawn did a LOT of good stuff with the MKX Comics, and he was on his own with that - and you can definitely see the difference in the writing when Dom is leading the charge with the plot points.

So I hope this answers your question of if he's a bad writer.

The MKX comic was great, so I'm not going to condemn him from just one game (and even then, some of the criticisms are blown way out of proportion.)

I feel as if the nostalgic story that John Tobias started has long since gone. For Jade there have been a lot of speculation as to her nationality. Some fans say she is Asian decent, others would say African (due to her MKIII appearance) and others would say a new race. I do like the idea of her being a sort-of Aztec descendant. It fits what she looks like and how she acts within the game itself, and she has looked a lot like this since Deception.

For Frost at least we finally got a female cyber ninja. Sure she isn't as good as Cyber Sub-Zero but she is now different and apart from Sub-Zero entirely. Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang) had a look and it has gone back and forth from Asian to American yet in reality I like his look from MK3 which looked a lot like his MKII comic appearance done by Tobias. He looked more American than Asian and I believe his MK3 unmasked look is how he should look. Bi-Han we've never seen unmasked in any game until now. Scorpion I agree looks like Mr. Myagi from Karate Kid! He's never had an unmasked look until the new games so I'm split with how he looks.

Sindel: Her new version could actually fit in MK11. Kronika can travel back and forward through time and quite possibly through other time lines. She has recruited the most powerful and most dangerous, in her mind, to assist her in this battle. Perhaps she traveled back into another time line and brought forward this new Sindel we've never met who actually did turn on Jerrod? With the time traveling story line there is soooo much that can happen and an endless amount of possibilities. Just like any other time traveling form of media, if you go back and mess up "the time space continuum" LOL, sorry Doc Brown; other time lines are possible. With Kronika being able to manipulate the time line to her own benefit she can do whatever she wants and we can see these new character versions we've never met. Usually time traveling in movies, books and games are new ways to reboot a failing franchise and MK has been failing for a while.

I don’t think Kittleson or Cianciolo are bad writers. Comedy is exceedingly difficult to write well and they did a fantastic job with Johnny Cage in this game. They created relationships for characters, enhanced relationships, created some drama and motivations for characters and so on. I thought Jax was done well in this regard. Especially the old Jax / young Jax / Jaqui dynamic.

I don’t think some appreciate how nuanced and complex some of the stuff is that they created for this story. I’m not going to pretend it’s Shakespeare, and yeah there’s certainly room for improvement as it pertains to character choices / intelligence, emotional range, themes, etc, but even though the bar on storytelling in fighting games is exceedingly low, these last three games are still in a class of their own and you can’t take that away from them just because of some lore gripes and anti-social justice ridiculousness.

Still, I do think that they played a little too fast and loose with the lore. Can a Sindel that was always evil in another timeline exist? Sure. But if we’re going to try and instead explain new Sindel by simply mashing ideas in to previous ideas... It looks a bit sloppy.

Also, and this is another small gripe, but since when are Kabal and Sareena a thing? In Kabal’s character towers, it says something about Sareena wanting you to prove you’re man enough for her or whatever. Not only does this go against the type of character she’s always been, but when has she ever even interacted with Kabal? She’s always been a part of Sub Zero’s world, so why the hard left turn?

It’s great that they want to add backstory to characters, but it becomes sloppy when no context or explanation is given in the game itself. Adding background for the sake of adding background may be better than nothing, but it’s still not as good as it could be in terms of logic and all around quality.

I think that both men are capable storytellers. I also think that they probably didn’t know or care enough about the lore they were digging through and that resulted in changes that many won’t notice, but the few hardest of the hardcore story fans will either scratch their heads at or outright detest.

So now they’ll have a clean slate. A chance to build their own lore from the ground up (assuming they’re back for MK12). Let’s hope they can bring some more complex ideas and themes to the forefront and handle them more deftly and creatively, while respecting their own path for the plot, subplots, etc so we’re not left with a bunch of strange retcons, abrupt changes and bad character logic / decision making.

I don’t think this story is nearly as bad as some, but I also think they have room for improvement.

Way late to the party because I just recently picked up MK11, but I actually enjoyed what they did with it here especially compared to MKX. You can definitely tell that Mortal Kombat is Warner Bros property now. This thing was as DC Comics as it gets. I'm kinda over this style of story mode to be honest. This is the sixth time NRS has used this format. Mortal Kombat Deception may have been a really shitty fighting game, but I enjoyed being able to explore and walk around the Mortal Kombat universe. Now that this trilogy is done and over with, I'm excited to see what comes next.

Mortal Kombat Armageddon and MK Deception konquest stories were amazing, so Vogel did a good job there.

I agree with all your points. This is not the manly game I grew up with. We have pink-shirt gay guy now making characters that he likes.
