He didn't die (in MK Gold). He narrowly survived Kung Lao's Hat Slice, as we all know. The incident must haunt him, as he wore metal chest armour most of the time after. The healing process may of taken a while, but I can imagine his chest was still disfigured underneath.

The "Gold" expansion wasn't canon. The only thing that they carried over from Gold was Cyrax stealing Smoke's story. The notion that Baraka was "split in half by Kung Lao's hat and stapled back together" was just bullshit.

Baraka is pretty dead this time.

Can NRS do justice with Baraka after what they did to him in MKX? I was stunned when they merged him with Alien. I think if Baraka is in MK11, he won't feel or play the same. Your thoughts?

Yes, have it be that Baraka suspected something might go sideways so he sent another Tarkatan in his place to pose as him and he would remain behind at Tarkatan headquarters or whatever.

That's basically the exact same story from Deception, and how he tricked Mileena into killing the wrong Tarkatan. Baraka might be devoid of any real story or characterization, but that would just be lazy.

I've never seen anything suggesting Gold wasn't canon.

I mean it had the usual MK ending "We don't know what's going to stick and what isn't" dilemma, that most (if not all) MK game's character endings have... but... that doesn't make the game's base story/character bios any less canon.

As was pointed out, Cyrax's entire Gold story stuck, which more or less proves its canon status. He was re-humanized by special forces, and continued to work for them directly in Deadly Alliance.

Kung Lao's story more or less stuck too (I believe part of it was lifted from the MK4 comic)... but the peace brokered between Outworld and Edenia (under Goro and Kitana) as showcased in Kung Lao's ending, was pretty central in Deadly Alliance.

Mileena's story was more or less just an extension of her MK3 story. She was still under Shinnok's thrall after dying in MK2.

Baraka and Kitana didn't have much to their Bios other than "Yep, they were there"

I admit and agree the whole Baraka survives being cut in half thing was kinda stupid, but that's probably why they mostly buried that plot point and didn't even mention it directly in MK4. At the end of the day... it's not the stupidest thing this franchise has ever done to sidestep the consequences of life and death. And what do I know about Tarkatan physiology? ... I can allow it.

Sure, most of the endings in MK4 and MKG were stupid and ultimately non-canon... but that's true of every MK game. We have no reason to think the bios weren't canon or that the characters weren't present.

Though since Cyrax is one of the few MK4 endings to stick 100%... that's all the proof I need that Gold was canon. (Usual MK ending caveats not-withstanding)

Yeah...and your point is? So what if it's a quotation of a previous event in MK and so what if it's a cop out? They did him pretty dirty in MKX and I want that shit retconned and for them to actually build on this character for once.

Besides...it's not like NRS is above laziness these days when it comes to story and characters....Revenants, Quan Chi, Cyber Sub-Zero..the entire Armageddon event...I could keep going.
