hey
I’m of the belief that if any of us had their way, there would be no guests. That’s just not the world we live in these days, however. You can do one of two things...
- Vote with your wallet and not buy them.
- Accept it and just have fun with it.
I have chosen to just have fun with it, but neither is a bad choice in my opinion. Different strokes and what not.
I like the vote with your wallet idea, but that is not always possible. For one, guest characters have been included in the base roster before (Kratos), and two, if you get a "komplete" or "ultimate edition" all the dlc characters are in the base roster.

I hate guest characters. Hated 'em since day 1. Cyber-Smoke, Tanya, Tremor, Bo Rai Cho, or friggin' anyone could have taken Freddy's spot in MK9. Same goes for MKX.
dude you have to admit freddy was pretty bad ass though . funny how i dont see kratos from god of war on your anti guest list . thats what drives me nuts about this complaining about guests. people will hate one ( freddy) but worship the other ( kratos) and also say xbox 360 dont have a exclusive ( marcus fenix ) wich is what fans complained about ,kinda defeats the whole no more guests campain your arguing eh? honestly that aside i would take four guest kharacters over 4 clones of one classic charachter ( every ninja or cyborg) any day . plus if nrs decided to throw in sweet tooth from twisted metal would e be having this discussion? i dont think so
i have played mk since 92 im in my thirties so i dont want to hear this if people want guests there not true mk fans crap. you have the option to not buy it so why complain? also one more thing what makes you think adding guests was a nrs call and not a wb call? after all wb owns nrs so they have bosses to answer to . i dont mean to be all over the place but i think fans forget that
I had MK9 on the Xbox, so I didn't even know Kratos was a thing for a while, but yeah, I'd take an actual MK character over Kratos too.

An idea just occurred to me ... MK11 has a "time bending" story, and a certain franchise that involves time travel has a sequel coming in 2019. Could one of the MK11 guest characters be a Terminator? T-800 would obviously be very popular, but T-1000 could utilize some of Shang Tsung's moveset like Alien used Baraka's in MKX.

I absolutely despise guest characters, but I begrudgingly accept that they're coming regardless. It just sucks that characters that have nothing to do with MK conceivably take up spots that may have otherwise been used to expand the franchise or appeal to fanservice. Modern gaming I suppose...

Shao Kahn did nothing wrong
I've always been in the camp that likes and/or don't mind guest characters. Ever since I was a kid. They never bothered me.
Now with that being said I can completely agree that I feel they've been relying too much on the gimmick in MK. 1 guest character? Great. 2? Cool. 3? Alright you're pushing it. 4 and so on? Geez. Okay, let's tone it down now lol.

Agreed 100%
Guest characters just take away MK character's spots. They're a great way to make casual players shell out more dollaroos, though, so expect to see them stick around.

I am in complete agreement with TS: I don't like them. I'd prefer they go away. But, we are the minority. This gimmick is popular, especially among the coveted younger demographic, and is here to stay.
TS's idea - to make it optional to exclude them from single player ladder's - is a very good one imo. I would shut those characters off myself.

There you go, finding a hidden advantage in an unfortunate circumstance; using pain to take you to the next level. Those are the things that turn players into kings.

truth is this. they have more casual fighting game players than mk players . us mk players can stop supporting nrs based on not wanting guests and they will still sell to the casual fighting game player . we hardcore fans are very miniscual
its guranteed money wich nobody will pass up
and they do cater to the hardcore mk fans if they didnt we would never have gotten tremor tanya or tryborg for mkx . the issue is fans are never happy with what there given . we live in a society of fandome now with everything where just because we support something for so long we act like we know whats best for a entire company . we become spoiled when it comes to things in pop culture. the mk franchise is very mild in that regard with its fan community but comic fans now thats a whole different ball game prove me wrong

Did you miss the part where I said that I begrudgingly accept them even though I hate the concept?

Why couldn't this ending have happened?
I wouldn't mind them if they sold them seperately so we can ignore them if we don't want them. Have the Kombat packs be straight MK characters and have the Guest packs for people who want the Guest characters.

Great point about Kratos, but why buy the ultimate/komplete edition of the game when, by that point, the vanilla version will be dirt cheap?

The real Smoke.
If it were up to me, I'd have MK characters over guests any day, but clearly that's never happening now. Too much of a money maker. They should've kept it at a max of 2 per game imo. Also should release them in a separate pack to the MK characters so people have the choice. I will put up with them and there are characters I wouldn't mind being in so much (e.g. Spawn, Talion and Doom Guy), but would still prefer none.
Maybe at some point they'll run out of licenses/horror guests to add anyway. Surely that will happen at some point.

you know as i sit here have a wild trip down memory lane watching old 90's cartoon intros as well old snes games now think about this before shooting it down. what if we get the brothers and shadow master from double dragon as guest kharachters? id love to know who owns the rights to them and why not revive them by involving them in mortal kombat? i know a lot of people who are die hard mk fans hate horror movie kharachters so why not introduce charachters that would fit perfectly into mk? from a story point of view there probably the most logical
can you guys imagine how shadow master's move set could work?
