Leaning them back in a more defensive stance would make a weird hitbox. Great for real life, tricky to balance for a fighting game.

Im not saying they should lean back to the point were the hitboxes get weird. I rather see some straight up idle stances like Noob's idle stance in MK9 for example.

Imo the idle stances look like a step backwards compared to the older MK games. Now they All lean foreward.

I get a comment like "hitboxes get weird when they lean back" like that is a proper fighting stance.. lol

i expected atleast some users cared about idle stances. Animations are ignored alot it seems. Guess its all about the lore and gore :(

Several kung fu styles start from a back stance. Mantis, Tiger, Snake, Choy Li Fut... probably more that I'm forgetting. It's not "leaning back" so much as putting your weight on the back foot rather than the front/centered, but it does move your personal hitbox farther from the opponent, which is part of the point.

I'd love to talk about the animation; it's a welcome reprieve from the roster gripe/political vomit threads. There just doesn't seem to be a lot to say about the idles, specifically.

I know of certain martial arts stances that lean more backwards. But i was just saying that in MK11 almost all of them lean foreward. you reply makes it look like the idle stances can only lean foreward or backwards (I mean no disrespect) which is not the case.

Even Scorpion as a few other characters that use martial arts lean foreward way too much for no specific reason.

Scorpion older stance where he used to hold his arm like a scorpion stinger was a good example of an idle stance that looked like he can fight and suited him very well.

kitana the same. Her stance in MK11 she has her arms lowered and leaning foreward. She is basically open for attacks. This stance makes sense for wild characters like Baraka or kano. But for a known martial artist it's not.

I wish these details are more noticed in the community. Idk, maybe they are, but fans dont care?

you could have explained me why instead. i just noticed your status and message count. So your problaby known with Mk. sorry if hurt your feelings bro. Not ment to... But really any other fighting game has different stances. straight upwards or whatever. Sayibg they all must lean foreward or else the hitbox glitches is silly. Idk what the problem is here, i just try to understand why you would think the characters MUST lean foreward for proper hitboxes.. Someone of your status i atleast axpect a good answer to backup your reason.

First of all, you didn’t hurt my feelings. I actually found what you said to be amusing. Second, I never said that they had to be facing forward (or that they couldn’t do anything else) neither did the post that I agreed with. Those are the conclusions you jumped to all by yourself.

Also, why does the mere act of agreeing with someone require that I explain myself? Now If I came straight out and went at you for your thoughts on the subject, then yes, I’d feel I had to explain the reason I felt you were wrong. However, I didn’t do that and I didn’t say you were wrong in your thoughts on the topic. I merely agreed with someone’s post. This doesn’t require an in-depth explanation as to why I agreed with them.

Anyway, I wasn’t mad or even upset. I simply found your assessment of me amusing. Gave me a chuckle. That’s all. :)

Sure you can agree on that :) But i never stated that the fact that they lean foreward, would having them leaning backwards otherwise. The majority of the idle stances in MK11 they tend to lean foreward. On this matter i asked a question.

You dont need to explain your reasons, but this is a forum where one starts a discussion and one other reacts on it based on the question of the thread. With this in mind i expect atleast an answer based on what i asked in the thread.

Maybe i jump to conclusions. Or maybe i dont make myself clear. Could be as english is not my first language.

But when someone answers my question with an answer like that i assume it was based on my question. That he might think that NRS made them lean foreward to have proper hitboxes. Idle stances never been an issue in MK related to hitboxes. But sure if one might think it would. I respect that.

The idle stances are aestethic only. Unless the lean all the way backwards which almost nonstance does or if they are bended dowwards.

You quoted his answer for whatever reason.. reason idk. Amd you dont want to explain. Its ok. If that is your intention to add value to a thread ok.

Scorpions older stance where he used to hold his arm like a scorpion stinger was a good example of an idle stance that looked like he can fight and suited him very well.

kitana again. She has her arms lowered and leaning foreward again. She is basically open for attacks. This stance fits wilder crazy characters like Baraka or kano. But for a known martial artist it's not a good fit.

Things ike this i want to discuss. Pherhaps i started the thread with the wrong question. But it was basically meant to discuss the idle stances of the characters. Why i like or dislike them.

Okay, so I looked at all the idle stances and took some rough notes on whether the stances were high or low, open or closed, forward/center/back, and generally what people were doing with their hands. There's a reasonable variety here, I think:

Jade: High, open, center, palm forward
Noob: High, closed, forward, rear arm ready
Liu: High, open, center, arms ready
Jacqui: High, closed, center, Muay Thai
Johnny: Med-high, open, center, arms ready
Cetrion: High, closed, center, arms dropped/palms up
Erron: High, half open, center, draw stance
D'vorah: Med-high, open, slight forward, arms ready
Kano: Med-high, open, strong forward, arms dropped
Kotal: Med-high, open, center, arms dropped
Kabal: Med-high, open, forward, fore arm ready
Jax: Med-high, open, forward, arms ready
Kung Lao: Medium, open, slight forward, Mantis hands
Cassie: High, half open, mostly center, arms ready
Scorpion: Med-high, open, forward, reverse spear in back hand
Geras: High, open, center, rear arm ready
Sub-Zero: Medium, open, slight back, "freeze ball" hands
Kitana: High, open, forward, fans splayed
Raiden: High, half open, center, arms ready
Kollector: Medium, open, forward, arms open
Sonya: High, open, forward, arms ready
Skarlet: High, open, forward, reverse dagger forward
Baraka: Medium, open, slight forward, arms open

So we have 12 forward stances out of 23, 10 center stances, and Sub-Zero even has a little bit of a back stance going on. There are no super low stances, but that's to be expected. Where we actually seem to be lacking in variety is that most of the stances are wide open, with only three fighters having a tighter, closed stance.

I think it's interesting that Kotal has a slightly lower stance than many of the other fighters, and yet he's still tall as fuck. Big dude.
