Two things:

1. This is the best version of her since Deadly Alliance in my opinion.

2. Is it just me or are her features way more Asian now than they have ever been? This seems to be a bit of theme in this game, first Sub-Zero and now Kitana.

Well Sub-Zero is Chinese, so he should look Asian.

He's a mixed boy though. Mom was American and dad was Chinese.

So he could still look like John Turk with some slight oriental modifications to his face.

Hope Kitana's voice actress is the same as in MKX. Has there been any news on that?

I also hope it’s the same voice actesss from MKX. I liked both of Kitana’s voice actresses from MK9 and MKX, but MKX’s was better.

These are all female ninjas. The complaints about them having the “same” costume is really short sighted in my opinion. They are definitely not identical, only similar.

By your logic, sub zero and scorpion have the “same” costume.

The female’s costumes are way more similar to each other than Scorpion’s and Sub Zero’s are.

I don't know man, we've been seeing this problem since MK9 when it comes to sameness with female costumes. I think Kitana was the only female character to really look distinct from the others in MKX. Otherwise it was almost all military body suits or leather pants and halter tops. And in this game it's this samey sleek leather thing.(Dress of body suit.) Which doesn't look very fitting for Outworld characters and looks baffling on Jacqui.

Jade looks pretty cool though. So far among the drab military garb and leather runway getup's she stands out the most. Again aside from D'Vorah,

Also Scorpion and Sub-Zero do look samey to a disturbing degree. Look at the designs of the clothing, I've said it before but all the human characters look like they are buying from the same fashion line. I just don't have much of a vocabulary when it comes to fashion some I'm not able to go into more accurate detail on this point.

The Sub Zero Bros.TM are explicitly stated to be half-Chinese, half American. One parent of each nationality.

I'm interested in learning about their parents more. I mean, the SZBros. have different family names.... implying they're only half brothers. Or did one take the name of the mother, and the other of the father? But that can't work since both names are Chinese and they're both supposed to be half-cast.

The most logical conclusion is an American woman bore a son each to two different Chinese men. And for some reason they kept their fathers names.

It was kinda good that they got given names by the devs so we didn't have to keep calling them OlderSZ / YoungerSZ... but it just raises more questions. :D

It was also established that Bi-Han and Kuai Liang had the same father who stole them from their mother. And that they also have a sister. For a time many were speculating it was Frost due to the rarity of Cryomancers.

Key word: nationality. Are you automatically equating being American with being white? Yikes.

I think what people are getting at are the tail splits in the alternate outfits of Skarlet, Jade, and Jacqui. I noticed it myself, though I'm not too bothered by it.

Yeah, I thought you had a good point there. And considering how easily that point was completely missed even after being explicitly spelled out -- sadly, that's probably the exact reason it couldn't be true, because the creators most likely weren't thinking about that either.

Nope. Just pointing out the devs claim a half-half split. So if anyone is "equating" it would be the devs. If both parents were Chinese, but one had American citizenship.... I doubt it would've been mentioned in the first place.

But why get defensive over the use of "American" but not "Chinese" or "Asian"? China itself is quite diverse - different parts of the country have different heritages / influences. And Asia encompasses everything from Indonesia and Singapore, to parts of Russia, and all the way to Turkey and Israel.

Heck, America includes anything from Argentina to Greenland. Africa has Egypt to Morroco, Ethiopa, Nigeria, all the way to Cape Town.

They all seem quest diverse to me. Yet Asia is associated mostly with Chinese/Japanese, Africa is supposedly all black, and America is apparently overrun by privileged white cis males.

If race is about skin colour then can you really say that an olive-skinned European from the Mediterranean is the same as a pale redhead from Ireland who's skin is physically unable to tan?! Herein lies the problems when trying to discuss race / ethnicity - there is no official definition of what those words actually mean or what they relate to. Technically the lowest category in animal kingdom is 'species' - in which we are all human.

As for nationality... well, that's just a bunch of lines drawn on a map designed to villify anyone who lives on the other side of that line. Heck, the word barbarian is a Roman word for "Not Roman" - aka: "dirty foreigners".

But hey, 'semantics', right?!

Okay, fair enough. You make a good point actually in that the developers probably DID mean a white American when they said their mother was an American otherwise they wouldn't have bothered mentioning it. It may be a little messed up that it's that way, as I tried to point out I suppose, but you're right that most likely that's the way they meant it. I apologize for jumping to conclusions about what you were saying.

All that being said, just because their original intent was probably that she was a white American doesn't mean they have to stick that. So much stuff gets retconned without explanation in this franchise that it's not a big deal that Sub-Zero appears as being fully Chinese now, especially when the wording back then left the wiggle room of, "well they only said she was AMERICAN not that she wasn't an Asian American".

Oh for sure.... the series is littered with retcons and inconsistencies. Who's to say they won't go back to an older version, or to come up with something different. It's not like him being Chinese/American has any major significant meaning to the Sub-Zero's. The Lin Kuei were a clan based in China, but they had members from all over the world.

I would like them to become more consistent in the future though. Hopefully MK11 is the start of them locking down certain aspects of characters / designs, because most of the characters look awesome in this game.

I very much doubt that one. They seem to deliberately change the way characters look from game to game.

I can't imagine why they would want to, but to change it up this much, I won't hold my breath that they'll look the same in MK12.

I think you are spot on. But have the long tail splits in common doesnt make the costume identical or the same is all im saying. We havent seen official renders of any of those costumes that are being grouped together either because they are all alternates. Im sure it will look different on our tv screens.

I will be comparing Jade & Skarlet tonight after work when I get my hands on the beta.

I agree, I think they are very similar. Both have metal shoulder pads. Sub Zero never has metal on his costumes..

It doesnt bother me tho... I love Sub Zero's primary and I really like the similarities to scorpion's because these guys are the OG palette swaps. I think they should be similar.

Of course they won't have the exact same outfit... but I'd like to keep an overall aesthetic. I don't want Scorpion in a gimp-suit covered in arachnid motifs again. :D

And we can only hope they've finally settled on a nationality/ethnicity/race/facial-structure (whatever you wanna call it) :D
