New interview and the Krypt
03/10/2019 10:08 AM EST

There is a new video interview with NetherRealm crew discussing MK11 and in 4:45 it is shown, that the fourth game mode on the Konquer tab is indeed the Krypt.

It would be so awesome if Mileena/Shang/Shinnok were all hidden away in the Krypt with absolutely nothing shown of them until fans unlock on release.

We haven't had any surprises in MK since the '90s.

Wouldn't really be a surprise though since those characters have already been rumoured to be unlockable.
I expect the game to get data mined to the high heavens during the betas.

Well it would be a surprise in the sense we would have no idea what they looked like or how they play and considering how great a job NRS does at re-designing characters- that would be a treat in itself.

But...you're right, it's a fantasy. Nothing stays secret for long in the digital age. Damn.

I think there were things they TRIED to keep secret in MK9 & MKX, but indeed the games did get hacked to death, and indeed most answers were out there (in an unofficial capacity) before final release.

The only thing I remember staying relatively secret in MK9 were the hidden fights with Klassic Reptile, Smoke, Noob & Jade. The achievements were out there, so people had an inkling to look for them, but no one (at first) knew quite what to make of them or how to unlock them. I recall there was a big long thread where we shared tips and stories of what we were doing when they appeared, and how we might unlock them.

There may also have been some alt costumes in MK9 that stayed hidden before release, but who remembers.

The biggest thing I remember remaining unconfirmed before MKX hit release was honestly the final boss. They never actually confirmed the final boss for MKX. All signs pointed to Shinnok, but NRS played coy about it, leading some folks to suspect there might be a twist boss. And there kinda was, I think they were just trying to keep Demon Shinnok under wraps. Though I remember people speculating more out there theories like Reiko or Havik or Onaga before release (mostly fueled by the comic book). Of course it didn't take long to get the answer upon release. And since a few copies leaked a couple days early here and there, we more or less had the answer before the game ever reached most of our hands.

ANYWAY yeah... I hope if those 3 are secret characters they stay as buried as possible prior to release.

Honestly the way they've kept Frost hidden in plain sight in the new trailer, feels like they're trying to keep a lid on her role in the game as well. We also haven't seen much of Noob or Jax, despite the leaks seemingly confirming them. Not sure if that's because they're significant, or just because they got developed last.

We are going to see a completely new take on Frost. Her smilarities to Kronika are not coincidental in my opinion. I would not be surprised if she becomes a vessel or fights in Kronika's stead.

Ed Boon does not know how to do secrets properly. He makes it virtually impossible for people to discover the secret. There are still secret unlockables from Deadly Alliance and Deception that people still haven't figured out, and Boon mentions they exist but refuses to say what they are. If that's the game he's going to play, then datamine it is.

Yeah I think they didn't reveal Sub-Zero in the trailer because they didn't want to spoil Frost and possibly Noob. Frost might have a big role in the plot.

I don't mind the infodump from Data Mines. I like knowing the roster, and the features coming down the pipeline. What irked me about the MK9 & MKX leaks was they spilled the entire story before the game actually hit most players' hands. And I apparently lack the self-control to not read it, lol.

What's weird is I'm typically okay about avoiding spoilers with most movies & games, but I'm a huge fan of MK, and for whatever reason with this franchise the temptation is always too great for me.

With 9 an entire transcript of story mode leaked, and I'd read the whole thing before release.

With X there were people streaming story mode on twitch about a week before release, and I'd watched... at least a good chunk of it. I may have fought myself enough to keep myself from watching the last 4 chapters or so. But I watched at least the first 2/3rds (possibly all of it... it was 4 years ago, I honestly don't remember)

I imagine as soon as the stress test and the preorder beta start we'll get some sort of new info hacked out of them, I'm just hoping it's not story mode details. The less temptation I have to wrestle the better.

It’s likely it will happen anyway. Idiots like Super and Shirroko who enjoy putting spoiler thumbnails on videos and end up on your feed just because you happen to watch a few mk videos or gaming videos in general really winds me up.

Funny, I usually don't care about story leaks at all. Story hasn't meant much to me since the 3D era.

But I must admit there is a slight aura of mystique around the MK11 story that I like.

Kronika specifically interests me. I hope she's more than a one and done antagonist.

Considering how huge her impact should be on the universe, she shouldn't be.

But it's Boon, how can you really trust anything he says ? The guy lives to screw with people. I would chalk it up to him lying just to drive people crazy.

Although alot was leaked in MK9 and MKX, there were still very long threads to discover all of the "Toasty Bonus" inputs in 9 as well as all those secret Brutalities and secret variant Brutalities in X. I expect alot of the same with Brutalities, the Krushing Blow requirements not being on movelist that we know of, and whatever secret is hidden behind Mercy and whatever the point of that being back is.

If trolling were an art form, Ed Boon would be Leonardo Da Vinci.

Anyway I hated that Krypt Monster in MK9, shit scared me more than most horror movies I've seen

This makes me mad too and its close to unavoidable. Also I've recently clicked the "stop showing me stuff from this creator" for dynasty and super. I don't think I've run into shirroko yet.

It seems like it would be easy to eliminate data mining on a beta... can’t they just port the pertinent data to the beta only and Not transfer other code relating to other characters, story mode, or other modes??

I imagine it would take some discipline in properly identifying sects of code but nothing crazy.

"Rain can be found in the Graveyard" was a text message in UMK3 activated by a Kombat Kode. Krypt/Graveyard.

They could, but it's just too much effort for a mere demo, which is why no one ever bothers.

What it would really require is creating an entirely separate project holding solely the content that will be in the beta, and no one wants to go through all of that, not even the sneaky Ed Boon. Prepare for some hella good datamining soon.

So the rumor is related to a 20 year old clue? Thatd be savage it was true, but I ain’t buying it
