NRS was lazy and disappointing with the skins. They missed out on easy money...

I was very excited to hear that they had a timeline thing going and many skins in this game. I didnt expect a bunch of color reswaps of the same skins. I was expecting Sub bzero to have like MKDA, MK:D (bald guy and shredder skin), Klassic outfit etc. Sonya in her sexy MK3 outfit and klassic MK1 sonia complete with the hairstyle (warrior shrine shows her there in the krypt). MK1 Liu kang with his short hair etc. I hate microtransactions like the next guy but league of legends made killings off of skins alone and this is where all their time krystals should of went towards and people investing in buying klassic and sexy skins instead of RNG of the krypt being as bad as it is. I thought the range of the krypt wasnt bad originally because I thought once yuou unlock all the chest, you have everything regardless of RNG but that wasnt the case, as you have to reset chest with kronika's amulet several times and complete the krypt 100% like 5 times in a row before you can get every skin. I assume it was made that way for the DLC content to be unlockable in krypt but whatever. They need more klassic skins in the game and unique peices. People will buy anything that looks nice even if its a glowing scorpion katana for the $2.50.

Give them some time...

For now the only extra skin released are

Ninja mime

Kold War Skarlet

Cangaceiro Kano

And the latter two are region exclusives, at least for now.

Yeah, the game hasn't even been out for 3 weeks. And they are promising a long support and a lot of content over the next few years. I'm sure skins are on their list as well. I hope they add more special moves though. I really miss klassic Sonya's leg grab or Sub Zero's clone.

Yeah, give time but I also wished for more variety amongst skins already.

Further I'd like the option to increase / decrease darkness on any skin (completely black is not allowed) - only to make costumes a bit more grim darkish kind of looking. Especially costumes that have these glowing parts must look fantastic in an overall darkish design - , awesome contrasts

But yeah, overall... designs are missing, I'd like to see completely different takes on models. As OP said, a more drained sub zero would be nice for instance. Ah, I think there are no limits for unique designs. Let's hope they make it

They’ve already said there’s more skins coming and some people have wanted for a long time. I’m hoping one of those is Deception Sub Zero

If netherealm gave back subzeros klone, what advice would you give to shao kahn and Kotal Kahn players within the match ups?

Absolutely right!

Stupid pallete swap designs and calling it a different costume..my ass! I thought Midway / NRS said that colour swaps was something from the past...

If they only made 4 different costumes and let us colour them to our taste, that would be great! Not 60 different swaps of 4 costumes!!

It is realy stupid!!!

In MK9, before DLC, Every character had 2 skins, in 2 colors. (Except Cyber Sub-Zero & The DLC characters, who had only 1 skin in 2 colors). A few (mostly the Ninjas) had 3 to 5 skins after DLC, most of the DLC skins being classic. None of the classic skins being on-disc.

MKX was admittedly all over the place, but before DLC, at minimum, each character had 2 skins in 2 colors. Several of the Headliners (Scorpion, Johnny Cage, etc) had about a half dozen (again, still only 2 colors each though).

In MK11, each character has at minimum 6 different skins, in 10 different colors. (Nevermind all the gear, which makes them even more customizable)...

A handful of characters even have extras on top of that (Jade, Kung Lao & Kitana have additional Kronika skins, which are semi-enhanced recolors of their revenent defaults. Liu Kang has additional God Skins. Etc.)

Again...

MK9 = 2 skins ea. in 2 colors ea.
MKX = 2 to 5 skins ea. in 2 colors ea.
MK11 = 6 skins ea. in 10 colors ea.

I'll grant you this game has WAY more recolors than the previous 2, but it also has WAY more default skins than the previous 2. Leading to WAY MORE skins in WAY MORE colors than the previous 2 games overall.

How exactly is that lazy?

I'll grant you the game is very light on classic skins... but so were the disc versions of MK9 & MKX. Nearly all the classic skins in both games were DLC... and there's currently no reason to believe we couldn't very well see classic skin DLC down the road for this game as well.

The lazyness is the colouring...

I dont need that much skins for a character.

I dont want a red / red-orange / orange / orange - green / green version of scorpion or Sub zero.

Never ever had a MK such stupid colours for characters.

Even my kids, 6 and 11 years old, give me a weird face when they see a yellow Kitana, a red Sub or a green Scorpion, even they know its not ok.

MK9 and MKX had good costumes, NRS should have done the like MKX, and a little more.

Too much is overkill, and overkill (like I2) is bad..

But that's not laziness on the part of the developers, that's just personal preference.

I agree, there are probably 20-30 colors I'd never even use for every character. But their being there doesn't make the developers lazy. If anything it means they put in more work than they needed to.

Every character still has a minimum SIX skins in TEN colors... which is a metric asston more than the previous two games.

Call it overkill, call them ugly, call it more than you need but it's not lazy to give us MORE skins than the last game in WAY MORE colors.

As I already said: Several characters in MKX only had 2 skins on-disc, in 2 colors. This game has 6 per character minimum. But even if you eliminate EIGHT colors from every skin and there are only TWO colors you like. And I think it's being generous saying there are only 2 decent colors for every skin, several have more than 2 decent colors, but anyway, Nevermind the 8 ugly recolors. Nevermind Gear. Nevermind the NINETY pieces of custom gear. Bare minimum, they tripled the minimum amount of skins per character in this game compared to the last one, and recolors and gear just compound the customization options.

Again, many characters only had 2 skins in MKX. Damn near every character only had 2 skins in MK9. Every character has 6 skins (some more) in MK11, before you even account for the other 9 recolors.

To call that lazy is just being whiny. Overkill sure. Lazy, no.

PS. To say "Never ever has an MK had such stupid colors" is also inaccurate. Alt colors in past games (even for ninjas) have at times been outlandishly off that character's main palette. Kitana's alt has been Red in the past (RED red). Mileena's has been teal. Tanya originally came in Yellow, Purple & Grey as I recall. Scorpion's has been both Orange and Grey. Hell, Reptile's primary costume in MK4 was black & purple. Come to think of it, Kitana's alt in Deadly Alliance (which became her primary in Armageddon) was also purple.

Granted, it's way, way, WAY more rampant in MK11, but it's not something they've "never ever" done before.

I love these kinds of discussions LOL

Maybe its indeed not lazyness, but for sure a cheap way to get more skins. At least they should have kept the colours a bit more authentic. (like the primary Sorpion - Its yellow with a bit of red - awesome) The best option I think would have been: 6 different skins per character and colour them to your own taste. And I mean every little part of the costume.

I am not complaining about gear, trust me I like it.

Being whiny..no..complaining. ;)

I have to admit: you're right on this one.

I dont remember a red kitana(alt)...maybe I am getting old haha..

Mileene / Teal indeed (MK2 right?)

Tanya and Scorpion indeed. MK4

Reptile MK4 costume was a nice one to be honoust. But that purple pants didnt make him unreconisable, his own skin made the character.

You still knew it was Reptile. With some coloured in MK11 skins it is not. Yeah by now you know it because you know the character.

Yeah that purple costume was weird. It was indeed purple but not Mileena purple, who has more pink in it.

Good one :D

They really should of just have us color shaders to make the skin how we want it instead of all these extra pallet swaps

Red Kitana and teal Mileena = that's MK Gold. Kitana also had a red alt in MK Shaolin Monks if you count that game.

MK Gold is the game I played the least. Great extension from MK4 just like UMK3.

I think I am gonna buy myself a dreamkast just for this game. Its the only one I dont have in my collection.

Thanks August for the info!
