Old lore lol. It doesn't matter anymore. That is likely forgotten. Is Onaga even still part of the canon or did they bury him too? They threw the baby out with the bath water with MK9. So for all we know they have retconned him to being the same race as Onaga and instead of him once being a god has now been retconned to just being an underling of Onaga who also was part of the same race.

No. It is canon unless in the games's or other canon material it is stated otherwise and it has not been stated otherwise. Shao Kahn in the canon is a god. Whether anyone want to believe that is their perogative but entirely irrelevent.

The whole point of my smug sarcasm in my post was that NRS has very little interest in maintaining preestablished lore these days. They'll change it at the drop of a hat if it makes things easier for them on a story telling front. They've been simplifying lore since MK9. Just look at what they've done with MK11 with characters like Noob Saibot, Kabal or the Tarkatan.(Okay to be fair, they lobotomized the Tarkatan lore in MKX.)

So what I'm saying is unless they reestablished it, don't cling to old lore. They don't care, practically everything established in the 3D era lore wise has been retconned and such a cryptic detail like that about Kahn (screw this "it's a title of the emperor shiz.) I doubt will hold up against their laziness/alzheimer's.
